The Social History Questionnaire As Related To Length Of Stay In Psychotherapy: A Cross-Validation, Robert Crowley
The Social History Questionnaire As Related To Length Of Stay In Psychotherapy: A Cross-Validation, Robert Crowley
Masters Theses
The purpose of the present study was to cross-validate the Terminator-Remainer subscale of the Social History Questionnaire (Jachim, 1972). The subjects were 72 clients from a mental health clinic. Two groups were used in the study (N = 72 and N = 36). Both groups were divided into Terminators and Remainers.
A point biserial correlation between the score on the Terminator-Remainer subscale and the criterion groups was significant (N = 72: rpb = .24, p < .05; N = 36: rpb = .38, p < .05). Predictive validity was established.
No relationship was found between being a Terminator or a Remainer and sex (x2 = 0.07, N …

The Social History Of Therapists And Their Clients, As Related To Outcome Of Therapy, Howard A. Bernstein
The Social History Of Therapists And Their Clients, As Related To Outcome Of Therapy, Howard A. Bernstein
Masters Theses
The present study was concerned with the concept of therapist-patient pairing or similarity-dissimilarity. From previous research, it appears that certain therapist types work better with certain client types.
In the current study, three therapists and twenty-four clients were used to develop the concept of pairing further using social history as a basis. The results indicate that global similarity generally leads to more positive outcome. However, we are unable to draw any firm conclusions, primarily due to the small sample size. It does appear that social history may be a useful area to continue investigations in the area of pairing.

Variables Relating To The Community Adjustment Of Female Adolescents From A Residential Treatment Facility, Cheryl Dworak Cox
Masters Theses
This study examined the relationship of certain possible prognostic variables and the success or failure of 41 adolescent girls in adjusting to the community after being discharged from a mental health institution. The possible prognostic variables were divided into three sets: individual variables, institutional variables, and community variables. The individual variables were (1) time of onset of the problem: (2) peer group involvement as shown by amount of time spent with peers and age of peers: (3) probationary status prior to admissions: (4) academic achievement level at discharge as shown by grade level and reading level: (5) preinstitutional school adjustment …

The Effects Of Metrazol On Acquisition Of An Oddity Task In Squirrel Monkeys, Stephen Wilson
Masters Theses
Recent evidence indicates that Metrazol can enhance learning in rodents provided certain variables such as genetic strain, difficulty of problem to be learned, and dosage levels are considered and carefully controlled. The effects of Metrazol on oddity acquisition in four squirrel monkeys was investigated. The apparatus employed was a modified version of the Wisconsin General Testing Apparatus. The dosage level of Metrazol was 15 mg/kg of body weight. The results suggest that Metrazol had no effect on the learning of the oddity task by the squirrel monkeys.

Predicting Delinquent Sub-Types With The Social History Questionnaire, Charles S. Sulcer
Masters Theses
A major problem encountered in the juvenile courts concerns the large number of young offenders placed on probation, as well as the seriousness of their violations. Representative studies by Jenkins and Glickman (1947), Hathaway and Monachesi (1953), and Shinohara and Jenkins (1967) have pointed out the complexities of delinquent behavior by indicating that most legal authorities are often unable to determine who will repeat illegal acts.
This problem necessitates some objective approach toward identifying potential repeaters and non-repeaters. Such a technique would be useful in studying the early stages of delinquent behavior and provide a means of studying the growing …

Lawrence Yates Sherman: United States Senator From Illinois, 1913-1921, Jerome Bentley Holstein
Lawrence Yates Sherman: United States Senator From Illinois, 1913-1921, Jerome Bentley Holstein
Masters Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to consider the political career of Lawrence Yates Sherman. Sherman, who served as United States Senator from Illinois, 1913-1921, was a colorful individual in Congress during one of the Republic's more turbulent periods. As a United States Senator, Sherman dealt with many vital issues. However, Senator Sherman is best-known for his "irreconcilable" position on the question of ratification of the Treaty of the League of Nations.
Actually, Sherman's political career was much more extensive than merely opposition to the League of Nations. Sherman was the "favorite-son" candidate of Illinois for the nomination of the …
