Sex Role Identification Of Children Of Divorced Parents, Frank A. Brown Iii Mar 1969

Sex Role Identification Of Children Of Divorced Parents, Frank A. Brown Iii

Masters Theses

This study was designed to explore the effects of parental divorce on the male college student's over-all adjustment and his difficulty in completing the sex role identification process. Behavioral ratings of the Ss and their scores on the MMPI were used to test each of these effects. Specifically it was hypothesized that the conflict in the home preceding the divorce, more than the separation from one of the parents after it, was likely to cause difficulty for the "child" in the sex-typing process. It was also suggested that in the cases where the male "child of divorce" originally blamed the …

Masters Theses

The purpose of the present study was to examine the extent to which race and self concept were associated in a group of disturbed adolescent girls in residential treatment. I The study drew on an earlier investigation of self concept, which conceived of the self concept as a part of the personality of an individual that acted as a motivating force. The study assumed that self concept was implicated in the dynamics of the disturbances that brought adolescents into treatment, and its purpose was directed towards securing a better understanding of the girls.

The study was conducted with a non-probability …

The Effects Of Ego-Involvement And Fear Appeals Upon Task Performance, Stephen Steinmetz Jan 1969

The Effects Of Ego-Involvement And Fear Appeals Upon Task Performance, Stephen Steinmetz

Masters Theses

Researchers and scholars in the fear appeal area have been unable to determine what factor or factors make fear appeals effective. Two studies, Hewgill and Miller (1965) and Powell (1965), suggest that the personal involvement of the audience with who or what is threatened is the factor which causes fear appeals to be effective. If ego-involvement is the personal involvement factor indicated by these studies, then it would appear to be the key to fear appeal effectiveness. Therefore, the present investigation was designed to experimentally compare the effects of ego-involvement and fear appeals upon task performance.

Sixty nine undergraduates enrolled …
