Manifestations Of Ergativity In Quiché Grammar, Tom Larsen

Tom Larsen

This study examines the various types of ergative phenomena in the grammar of the Mayan language Quiche spoken in Guatemala. There is a brief discussion of the phonology of Quiche together with a discussion of the various orthographies which have been used to write the language. This is followed by discussions of the morphology of pronouns, nouns, adjectives, intransitive verbs, transitive verbs, positionals, adverbs, and particles. These discussions include a complete and thorough account of the inflectional morphology, including the ergative/absolutive verb agreement system. Library Costs As A Percentage Of Law School Budgets, Jane L. Hammond Jul 1988

Library Costs As A Percentage Of Law School Budgets, Jane L. Hammond

Cornell Law Librarians' Publications

Based on the budgets reported to the Consultant on Legal Education of the American Bar Association, both the average and the median percentage of law school budgets designed for the law school library have been about 18% for at least ten, and perhaps as many as thirty, years. The 20-22% reported by Swords and Walwer for the early 1970s appears to be an anomaly. Rather than relying on one benchmark for all law schools, a more reliable guide would be to distinguish by size of the fulltime student body or size of the library collection or both. Most law schools …

Corporate Farming And Corporate Farming Restrictions In Nebraska, Bruce Johnson, David J. Aiken Jul 1988

Corporate Farming And Corporate Farming Restrictions In Nebraska, Bruce Johnson, David J. Aiken

Publications

Corporate activity in production agriculture has been an object of public debate in the United States and in Nebraska for a long time. During the 1960s, foreign nationals began buying agricultural land, particularly in the Midwest. At about the same time, corporations such as Gates Rubber Company and Blackwatch Farms acquired large tracts of land. Many people saw this as a threat to the family farm and, subsequently, sought restrictions on corporate ownership of agricultural land.

Adult Illiteracy: A Survey Of The Material And Teaching Preferences Of Local Tutors, Mary Margaret Byrom Jul 1988

Adult Illiteracy: A Survey Of The Material And Teaching Preferences Of Local Tutors, Mary Margaret Byrom

Graduate Theses

An overview of adult illiteracy in the United States from an historical and current perspective is presented. Regarding current efforts at improving reading ability, a study was conducted of local tutors whose names were supplied by the Midland Need to Read program. A survey form was used to indicate 1) the experience level of the tutor, 2) the preference of tutors as to the ability of students they preferred to instruct, 3) the reading series they found most effective, and 4) interesting and effective supplemental materials. Findings indicate that tutors with prior teaching experience have more confidence in instructing students …
