This article introduces Faxtex, a series of database products by Searchcraft. Faxtex is being started for the purpose of leapfrogging over the primary three limitations in the industry namely, the need for a computer or a terminal, a modem and a password. Searchcraft's Faxtex service is a series of database products that have the potential to become the first truly mass-market, consumer-oriented database products. Faxtex requires only a touchtone phone to search textual databases. The user dials one of a series of 900 telephone numbers to connect to the Faxtex service. A combination of prerecorded and computer-synthesized voices leads the …

The U.S. Economy And George Bush: A Midterm Review, Murray L. Weidenbaum
Murray Weidenbaum Publications
Following the Reagan presidency, the Bush, Sr. administration has been dealing with reducing huge budget deficits. Corporations will be facing increased foreign competition from the European Community and the Asian Rim nations. But, even with these difficulties, the American economy is still a model followed by other countries.

A Strategic Market Game Of A Finite Economy With A Mutual Bank, Martin Shubik, Jingang Zhao
A Strategic Market Game Of A Finite Economy With A Mutual Bank, Martin Shubik, Jingang Zhao
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
We introduce a strategic market game for an exchange economy not having enough commodity money. We show the existence of a non-cooperative equilibrium for any finite replication economy with a mutual bank, we then show that efficient trade can be achieved in the limiting economy by expanding the money supply through the use of fractional reserves, where the commodity money is demonetized and used for reserves. The means of exchange becomes bank credit backed in part, by “gold.” However, efficiency can not be achieved in general as a non-cooperative equilibrium of a finite player game or a finite exchange economy.

Management Of Interdependent Data: Specifying Dependency And Consistency Requirements, Amit P. Sheth, Marek Rusinkiewicz
Management Of Interdependent Data: Specifying Dependency And Consistency Requirements, Amit P. Sheth, Marek Rusinkiewicz
Kno.e.sis Publications
Multiple databases that serve the needs of various application systems are considered. One of the significant problems in managing these databases is to maintain the related data items consistent to the required degree. This problem is frequently referred to as `redundant data management'. Since the term `redundancy' tends to imply that the data is unwanted or superfluous, the authors use the more general term `management of interdependent data'. Some preliminary ideas in this area are discussed. The problem of managing interdependent data is characterized, and some important types of interdatabase dependency are identified.
Hutchins, Adler, And The University Of Chicago: A Critical Juncture, Mary Ann Dzuback
Hutchins, Adler, And The University Of Chicago: A Critical Juncture, Mary Ann Dzuback
Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies Research
As dean of Yale University's Law School, Robert Hutchins stressed social science theory and research as central to the university's work. Within a few years, as president of the University of Chicago, he abandoned the social sciences for philosophy and the great books. Hutchins's conversion seems ironic because it took place at an institution renowned for the work of its faculty in social science theory and research. This article is an attempt to make sense of Hutchins's shift in thinking at a critical juncture in his life and in the university's history
