Subjective Fatigue In A-6, F-14, And F/A-18 Aircrews During Operations Desert Shield And Storm, C. A. Dejohn, S. A. Shappell, D. F. Neri

Fatigue occurring during naval air combat can reduce performance, impair operational effectiveness, and compromise safety. This study examines the effect of combat missions on the subjective fatigue of naval aircrews deployed aboard USS AMERICA during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Fatigue was determined using three questionnaires that were completed before and after each mission. Although fatigue significantly increased during combat missions, it usually returned to preflight levels by the next day without noticeably increasing as the operation progressed. We feel that judicious aircrew scheduling on the part of operational planners was one of the most important factors contributing to this …

Industry's Response To Market Liberalization In China: Evidence From Jiangsu Province, Penelope B. Prime

More than a decade has passed since China's communist party endorsed major economic reform at the Third Plenum of the Eleventh Central Committee in December 1978. The reforms have addressed many problems, but efficiency has been the focus of concern. To improve efficiency, China has introduced market mechanisms and reversed its import substitution policies. The purpose of this article is to investigate whether industrial productivity has increased as a result, using Jiangsu Province as a case study.

The Perceived Role Of High-Level Black Urban Managers In Virginia, Karen Ann Johnson

Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Management

Focusing on sixteen cities in Virginia, the researcher studied the perceived managerial and career roles that high level black urban managers play in local government. From June to August 1991, black managers in the study completed self-assessments in the following areas: (1) socio-demographics, (2) perceived managerial and career role, (3) behaviors associated with managerial activism, pursuing the needs of the black community and career development, and (4) characteristics of their work environment. Based on their responses, the managers were assigned to role groups. Differences among the groups were noted. The entrepreneurs reported a higher degree of organizational support, role norm …

OBJECTIVE: To compare quality of care measured by explicit criteria, implicit review, and sickness-adjusted outcomes at different types of hospitals. DESIGN: Further analysis of data retrospectively abstracted from medical records to evaluate the effects of prospective payment on quality of care for hospitalized Medicare patients. SETTING: Hospitals in five states were sampled to represent the national Medicare admissions along many dimensions. PATIENTS: A total of 14,008 elderly patients with one of the following five diseases: congestive heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, pneumonia, stroke, or hip fracture. These patients were randomly sampled from those with these diseases in 297 hospitals in …

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
