An Evaluation Of Recidivism Rates For Resolutions Northwest's Victim-Offender Mediation Program, Karin Jewel Stone
Dissertations and Theses
Victim-offender mediation, a component of restorative justice, has been a valuable tool for rehabilitating juvenile offenders since the late 1970s. The purpose of this study was to analyze the recidivism rates for juvenile offenders who went through Resolutions Northwest's victim-offender mediation program as opposed to offenders who went through the traditional justice system. It was hypothesized that the participants in this program would have …
Problem-Based Learning Inside And Out: Multiple Roles For Librarians, Jolene Miller
Problem-Based Learning Inside And Out: Multiple Roles For Librarians, Jolene Miller
Jolene M. Miller
As an active learning technique, problem-based learning benefits students by encouraging them to apply what they have learned in class to real-world problems and by improving their information literacy skills. Librarians working in institutions with problem-based learning are most familiar with with these students through reference encounters. Our participation in problem-based learning, however, should not be limited to the reference desk. Librarians can and should play multiple roles in their institutions' problem-based learning curricula. This poster describes five levels of librarian participation in problem-based learning (reference assistance to students, information literacy training for students, consultations with departmental faculty regarding available …

What Do Students Learn From Service-Learning And How Do We Know It?, Scott A. Chadwick
What Do Students Learn From Service-Learning And How Do We Know It?, Scott A. Chadwick
Special Topics, General
Service-learning presents a unique opportunity for those interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). This opportunity exists because relatively little empirical research has been conducted on the efficacy of service-learning with respect to the intended learning outcomes designed into the course by the teacher.

Public Education Cost Frontier Models: Theory And An Application, John E. Anderson, Mahbubul Kabir
Public Education Cost Frontier Models: Theory And An Application, John E. Anderson, Mahbubul Kabir
Department of Economics: Faculty Publications
We examine the cost structure of public schools in this paper, using frontier cost models that enable us to estimate sources of inefficiency. A two equation stochastic frontier model is presented that can be used to explain both cost and the sources of inefficiency. Using that model and data for public schools in Nebraska over the period 1989-92, we estimate cost frontiers for the districts. Estimated cost frontier information is then used in estimating school district need for purposes of computing state aid, illustrating an important potential application of such information.
Both Sides Of The Looking Glass: Librarian And Teaching Faculty Perceptions Of Librarianship At Six Community Colleges, Devin Feldman, Susan Sciammarella
Both Sides Of The Looking Glass: Librarian And Teaching Faculty Perceptions Of Librarianship At Six Community Colleges, Devin Feldman, Susan Sciammarella
Publications and Research
Librarians and teaching faculty often have different perceptions of the roles of the library and the librarian in undergraduate education. A study surveying six community colleges reveals that there is much room for improvement in the interrelationship between librarians and teaching faculty. More effective communication and mutual respect would enhance the educational experience for students and provide a richer learning environment.
