Attitudinal Outcomes Of Punishment Events In Team-Sporting Settings, Jason Tapp Nov 2000

Attitudinal Outcomes Of Punishment Events In Team-Sporting Settings, Jason Tapp

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The organizational justice perspective suggests that procedural and distributive justice evaluations of a specific punishment event will affect an individual's reactions to the punishment. A 3 (decision-making procedure: autocratic, participative, group) X 3 (punishment severity: low, moderate, high) factorial design was utilized to develop punishment scenarios in team-sport settings which were evaluated by 205 participants. Decision-making procedure and punishment severity both produced significant main effects on evaluations of the fairness of the procedure. Only punishment severity produced a significant main effect on perceptions of the fairness and appropriateness of the punishment, as well as on perceptions of the likelihood of …

Do The Rich Save More?, Karen E. Dynan, Jonathan Skinner, Stephen P. Zeldes Nov 2000

Do The Rich Save More?, Karen E. Dynan, Jonathan Skinner, Stephen P. Zeldes

Dartmouth Scholarship

The question of whether higher–lifetime income households save a larger fraction of their income was the subject of much debate in the 1950s and 1960s, and while not resolved, it remains central to the evaluation of tax and macroeconomic policies. We resolve this long‐standing question using new empirical methods applied to the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, the Survey of Consumer Finances, and the Consumer Expenditure Survey. We find a strong positive relationship between saving rates and lifetime income and a weaker but still positive relationship between the marginal propensity to save and lifetime income. There is little support for …

Pegram V Herdrich: Implications For Consumer Protections In Managed Care, Sara J. Rosenbaum, Joel B. Teitelbaum

Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications

This Report, prepared for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, provides a brief overview of the United States Supreme Court's landmark decision in Pegram v Herdrich (hereinafter referred to as Herdrich). This report begins with a brief overview of the debate in the courts over how to distinguish between legal challenges to the conduct of managed care companies in which all state remedies are preempted by ERISA and those that may proceed under state law. It then summarizes the facts of the Herdrich case and the Court's holding. The report concludes with a discussion of the implications of …

Medicare, Managed Care, And Behavioral Health Care, Sara J. Rosenbaum, Barbara Markham Smith Nov 2000

Medicare, Managed Care, And Behavioral Health Care, Sara J. Rosenbaum, Barbara Markham Smith

Health Policy and Management Issue Briefs

This issue brief examines Medicare and managed care for Medicare beneficiaries with behavioral health needs. Although only a relatively small proportion of Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in managed care arrangements at the present time, proposals to expand the use of Medicare managed care can be expected to receive a good deal of attention in the coming years as part of a larger debate over Medicare's long term future. Thus, this issue brief examines the Medicare+Choice (M+C) program from the perspective of Medicare beneficiaries with mental illness and addiction disorders.

Outsourcing Collegiate Sports, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

In some places it's called "privatizing." Here in Florida it is called "outsourcing." Over the past few years a number of campus functions have been "outsourced." The most recent example on our campus is the bookstore, which was outsourced to Barnes and Noble, a company that seemed better equipped than the university to run a bookstore. And probably they are.

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

President George Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law on January 26, 1990. This Act was intended to overcome many perceived or actual acts of discrimination against persons with disabilities residing in the United States of America. To date, no author has looked back to see what the impact of this comprehensive law has been on local government. This author through study will be determining what, if any, impact this law has had on the State of Nevada counties. This study is being limited in scope to personnel administration, and personnel related remedies. Recommendations for the future …
