Crop Insurance Changes And Decisions For 2002, H. Douglas Jose

Cornhusker Economics

It is now only about a month and a half before the sales closing date of March 15 for spring planted crops in Nebraska. There are no major changes in the program this year. Last year was the big change year with significant increases in premium subsidies as a result of the Agricultural Risk Protection Act of 2000.

The team arrived in the local, approximately 10:40, and tried to park the vehicles in the usual parking area. The right rear of the truck set off an AT mine. The truck was projected to approximately 7 metres high. In the same time five occupants at the back of the truck were projected violently due to the blast effect. [Nine named victims were recorded in the Demining group’s accident spreadsheet, from which I infer that four were in the cab.] Six victims were listed as having suffered no injury.

The Rule Of Law: A Reassessment For The Twenty-First Century, Noel B. Reynolds

Noel B Reynolds

This brief radio address attempts to explain the origins of American liberty and to assess its health at the beginning of the 21st century. The notion of rule of law and the emerging science of constitutionalism enabled America’s founding generation to establish a system of political liberty that continues to stand as a model for all human societies to pursue.

The Unwritten Rules Of Nba Officiating: When Will Mark Cuban Learn, Richard C. Crepeau Jan 2002

The Unwritten Rules Of Nba Officiating: When Will Mark Cuban Learn, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

As Dallas Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban goes off to manage a Dairy Queen today it is a reminder not only of his insult of NBA referees but of three basic facts of American life. First, it takes no particular intelligence to become a billionaire. Second, some people have way too much money. And third, it is an absolutely futile exercise to criticize the referees in the National Basketball Association.

The Argentine Economy - We Should Care What Happened, Richard K. Perrin Jan 2002

The Argentine Economy - We Should Care What Happened, Richard K. Perrin

Cornhusker Economics

Argentina is a country known to many Nebraskans as a kindred prairie-based producer of beef, corn, soybeans and wheat -- a friendly but tough customer for some of our agricultural inputs, a competitor in world agricultural markets. The collapse of the Argentine economy is therefore of some interest to Nebraskans. What happened, and what does it mean for us?

Beaten To Death On Ice: Out Of Control Parents And Youth Sports, Richard C. Crepeau Jan 2002

Beaten To Death On Ice: Out Of Control Parents And Youth Sports, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

On Friday forty-four year old Thomas Junta was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Costin on July 5, 2000 in the Boston suburb of Reading. This piece of news is nothing extraordinary as similar items can be found in most daily newspapers across the country once or twice a year. What made this case of extraordinary interest across America, put it on Court TV, and attracted extensive coverage on the 24/7 news channels was the particular setting and circumstances of the case.
