The Managers turned off the track and drove up to the fence. In doing so they drove straight through the minefield followed by the victims in their vehicle. The lead vehicle drove through three or four rows of VS1.6 anti-tank mines. The following vehicle, with the office staff and the only vehicle radio, activated a VS1.6 anti-tank mine as it followed.

Every now and then I read a book that for some reason strikes a particular chord with me. This doesn't make it a great book, but for me it is an important book because it evokes significant emotional or intellectual responses. When that happens I generally tell everyone I know that they need to read this new book.

French Military Policies In The Aftermath Of The Yên Bay Mutiny, 1930: Old Security Dilemmas Return To The Surface, Tobias Frederik Rettig
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
This paper provides a brief summary of the Yên Bay mutiny of 10 February 1930, before examining its links to a wider insurrectionary attempt by the Vietnamese Nationalist Party in parts of Tonkin and the reasons why the attempted insurrection was to begin at Yên Bay but not in other garrison towns. It then places the mutiny in a context in which the use of Vietnamese soldiers in French service was necessary in order to maintain French supremacy as a colonial and protectorate power in French Indo-China. But instead of focusing on the mutiny itself and its causes, the main …

This brief radio address attempts to explain the origins of American liberty and to assess its health at the beginning of the 21st century. The notion of rule of law and the emerging science of constitutionalism enabled America’s founding generation to establish a system of political liberty that continues to stand as a model for all human societies to pursue.

If the first few days of the New Year there are many indications 2002 could turn out to be much more than simply a palindromic delight. The seismic rumblings out of Gainesville, Florida yesterday overshadowed the Category Five Hurricane that swept from California to Nebraska on Thursday. The totally unexpected resignation by Steve Spurrier as Gator football coach would easily have overshadowed such an action by the governor of the state, and perhaps even that of the governor's brother. It has been front-page news across Florida for two days now, and local television news has been overrun by this story …

Faculty Exchange Program Finishes Third Successful Year, Lynn Lutgen
Cornhusker Economics
The Agricultural Economics Department recently completed its third year of involvement in USDA’S Faculty Exchange Program. This year we had five participants instead of the usual four; they came from Russian, the Ukraine and Kazakhstan. While in Nebraska they took classes, developed new course outlines and wrote articles that they will use on their return to their universities. While in the United States they traveled and learned about our business and work with the Scottsbluff Extension Service, learning about extension and distance education. All these things were designed to help them make changes when they return home. The following are …
