Response Decision Processes And Externalizing Behavior Problems In Adolescents, Reid Griffith Fontaine, Virginia Salzer Burks, Kenneth A. Dodge Jan 2002

Response Decision Processes And Externalizing Behavior Problems In Adolescents, Reid Griffith Fontaine, Virginia Salzer Burks, Kenneth A. Dodge

Reid G. Fontaine

Externalizing behavior problems of 124 adolescents were assessed across Grades 7–11. In Grade 9, participants were also assessed across social-cognitive domains after imagining themselves as the object of provocations portrayed in six videotaped vignettes. Participants responded to vignette-based questions representing multiple processes of the response decision step of social information processing. Phase 1 of our investigation supported a two-factor model of the response evaluation process of response decision (response valuation and outcome expectancy). Phase 2 showed significant relations between the set of these response decision processes, as well as response selection, measured in Grade 9 and (a) externalizing behavior in …

Central Banking In Transition: An Overview Of Main Issues Ten Years After., Warren Coats, Marko Skreb

Warren Coats

The aim of the paper is to analyze the significant changes Central and Eastern European central banks have undergone in the first decade of transition. In only a couple of years they have been completely transformed from socialist monobanking system to modern, independent central banks with the same functions as any central bank in a developed economy. Today, on average, de iure independence is very high and probably higher than the de facto one. Almost all central banks have price stability as their main mandate. Inflation was reduced significantly in the first couple of years. Monetary policy underwent crucial changes …

Who Joined The Clandestine Political Organization? Some Preliminary Evidence From The Overseas Taiwan Independence Movement, Weider Shu

Weider Shu

The focus of this paper is the political activism of the activists affiliated with overseas Taiwan Independence Movement (TIM), especially those residing in the United States. Based upon the in-depth interview with fourteen TIM activists and two other published data sets about the demographical characteristics of TIM activists, this essay deals with a very fundamental aspect of activism in the clandestine political organizations: what is the social composition of these activists. Two approaches can be seen as direct approaches of political activism in the social movement literature: marginality thesis and privilege thesis. On the one hand, proponents of marginality thesis …

Epistemologia Sem Sujeito: A Filosofia Das Ciências Proposta Por Karl Popper, Paulo S. Peres

Paulo S. Peres

Innovations In Competitive Manufacturing, Paul Swamidass

Paul Swamidass

Competitive manufacturing in the US was made possible by the progress made in a number of areas. Pressured by competition, US manufacturers began the journey to competitive manufacturing in the late seventies; their success brought revolutionary changes to US manufacturing.

The book is arranged in 13 different chapters, each covering a major subject within manufacturing management. Each chapter consists of one or …

Theorizing The Connections Among Systems Of Subordination, Nancy Levit Jan 2002

Theorizing The Connections Among Systems Of Subordination, Nancy Levit

Nancy Levit

Theorizing the Connections Among Systems of Subordination introduces a symposium that addresses issues on the leading edge of identity theory, race theory, and critical social theory. It explains the concepts of anti-essentialism, intersectionality, multiple consciousness, multi-dimensionality, and post-intersectionality. It investigates the ways specific types of oppression - such as racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia - support and feed off of one another. It explores the dynamics of subordination that make different forms of subordination connected to each other - the mechanisms by which subordinating systems buttress each other. Where one sees sexism, one frequently can find racism; where classism exists, …

Das Innovationsverhalten Der Deutschen Softwareindustrie, Michael Friedewald, Knut Blind, Jakob Edler

Michael Friedewald

In this article we present the results of two empirical studies focusing on the structure and extent of the innovation activities of the German Software Industry and analyze distinctive features of Software Innovations. We distinguish the activities of the primary (core) Software Industry and secondary industries such as Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Motor Industry and Telecommunications. A special focus is put on the question if innovations in Software are sequential, on the role of Open Source Software and the importance of inter- operability.

Applied Monetary Policy And Bank Supervision By The Ecb, Mads Andenas, Lazaros E. Panourgias Jan 2002

Applied Monetary Policy And Bank Supervision By The Ecb, Mads Andenas, Lazaros E. Panourgias

Mads Andenas

Monetary policy and banking supervision are closely related and interdependent concepts. Monetary policy and central banking are not defined in such a manner in the Maastricht Treaty that it precludes the European Central Bank from taking on a wider responsibility for financial stability and the handling of banking crises. The article introduced the term 'macro-prudential supervision', explained as 'supervision with a view to safeguarding systemic stability', in a section with the heading 'Default Supervision of Central Banks'.

Misfeasance In Public Office, Governmental Liability And European Influences, Mads Andenas Jan 2002

Misfeasance In Public Office, Governmental Liability And European Influences, Mads Andenas

Mads Andenas

The article deals with the liability of banking regulators in the UK after the BCCI debacle, and provides a wider comparative perspective. It analyses the lack of enforcement culture in the Bank of England, at the systemic failures on the regulatory side that this leads to. The article argues in favour of an extended liability for lack of effective banking supervision, and that banking regulators should be liable where there is a sufficiently breach of the duty to supervise and enforce.

The Politics Of Legal Reform, Florencio López De Silanes Jan 2002

The Politics Of Legal Reform, Florencio López De Silanes

Florencio López de Silanes

As a result of the emerging market crises of the last decade and a large body of academic research on the influence of investor protection in the development of capital markets and economic growth, there is a growing consensus that reforming the legal infrastructure supporting business should be an important component of reforms in many developing countries. But the consensus is unwieldy, as there are still many forces against reform and little agreement about what constitutesfeasible legal reforms. This paper has two parts. In the first, we identify the forces for and against legal reform and review the role these …

Three hundred and twenty-four regional, provincial, and national level athletes were recruited to participate in this study from 10 different sports.
