Labor disputes are an intriguing feature of the landscape of industrialized economies. Economists have had a long-standing interest in formulating a framework for understanding and analyzing labor disputes. The development of noncooperative bargaining theory provided the tools for a theory of collective bargaining and labor disputes. A general aim of this theoretical development is to inform policy makers of the efficiency and equity effects associated with different labor laws and institutions that govern and shape the collective bargaining process. While this new literature is still evolving, it can already offer many insights into the interplay between policy and the bargaining …

During the 1930s, William Hapgood and Sylvia Hazel Smith Berry spent their winters in St. Petersburg to get away from the snow and cold weather of New England. While wintering in Florida, they lived in a home in the 13th Street Heights neighborhood and participated in the many social and cultural activities available for seasonal residents. This collection of twenty photographs and four photographic postcards displays images of St. Petersburg taken during the winter and spring of 1933. Many popular sites are represented, including the “Million Dollar” Pier, Williams Park, and the 1933 Festival of States parade. These photographs were …

The purposes of this study were to (a) ascertain the strengths and weakness of the continuing library education practices of New Jersey public librarians; (b) determine the frequency of continuing library education of New Jersey public librarians; (c) determine if certain types of librarians participate in continuing library education at higher frequencies; (d) determine which continuing library education topics are participated in most frequently and which continuing library education topics need to be addressed; and (e) ascertain which agencies are offering these continuing library education experiences for New Jersey public librarians.

A Study Of Transformational And Transactional Leadership In Computer-Based Communication, Luann Watson
Theses and Graduate Projects
A two-part survey was administered to 88 adult students in master's and undergraduate programs at Augsburg College to determine the relationship between the amount of time spent in computer-based communication between leaders and followers and the leadership style of the leaders. The two leadership styles studied were the transformational and transactional styles first described by James MacGregor Burns (1978) and further developed by Bernard M. Bass (1985). Most leaders exhibit both transformational and transactional leadership styles, but in differing degrees. However, transformational leadership is thought to be more motivational. It was hypothesized that the transformational style would be less prevalent …
