The Role Of Worldcat In Resources Sharing, Anna Perrault

The 30th anniversary of WorldCat was celebrated in 2001. At that time, there were 45 million records with over 750 million location listings, spanning over 4,000 years of recorded knowledge in 377 languages. In the anniversary year, a bibliometric study was begun under the auspices of an OCLC/ALISE research grant. A 10% systematic random sample of the database was analyzed utilizing the OCLC iCAs software to profile the monographic contents of WorldCat by type of library, subject and language parameters. The profile reveals the extent of global publications made accessible through the OCLC international network. Several findings of the study …

The Virgin And The Grasshoppers: Persistence And Piety In German-Catholic America, Stephen Gross

This paper examines two inter-related historical problems -- the impact of the market revolution in nineteenth-century American and the disruptive impact of immigration on community life -- by chronicling the construction of a votive chapel in the heavily German-Catholic Stearns County, Minnesota. The chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was ostensibly built to secure divine relief from a plague of Rocky Mountain locusts that was devastating the area. At the same time, the chapel and the rituals surrounding its construction spoke to other community needs and functioned in diverse ways to address other community problems. InterLibrary Loan Support for the Yucca Mountain Project (YMP) Technical Information Center. This project was initiated to support the Technical Information Center (TIC) efforts to acquire cited-reference documentation (journal articles, technical reports, book chapters, symposia and other monographs, reference materials, etc.). It also supported selective acquisition by UNLV Libraries of titles that would benefit the YMP, UCCSN/UNLV, and the general public’s research needs in the area of underground nuclear waste disposal and nuclear waste transportation.

Planning For The Future Of The Book: Some Longer-Term Financial Considerations In The Managemnent Of Book Stock, Patrick G. Scott

Contrasts library costs for short-term access to digital collections for a delimited group of library users with the traditional free access and loan of now-ageing and irreplaceable print collections, suggests that future access to major research collections of printed material may well be fee-based, and argues that libraries need to plan for the future of their book stock with the same imagination and financial realism that has been given to digital resources. The Anchor: 2003

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
