The Mayos: African-American Artists Of The Heartland
The Mayos: African-American Artists Of The Heartland
Publications and Exhibits
This oral history project and exhibit pays tribute to two outstanding African-American folk artists with roots in Mount Vernon, Ohio: Walter O. Mayo (1878-1970) and his son, Walter L. “Bud” Mayo (1908-2000). Kenyon students Margaret Tazewell (’03) and Jessica Philips (’04) conducted interviews with family and community members, traced and documented artworks in the community, and mounted an exhibit and public conversation at Kenyon’s Olin Gallery in January 23-February 23, 2003.

Investment Prospects In Ukraine: Transition From A Planned To Market Economy, Teodor Kostandinov Penov
Investment Prospects In Ukraine: Transition From A Planned To Market Economy, Teodor Kostandinov Penov
Senior Honors Theses and Projects
The Soviet economy and how it operated successfully to make it one of the world superpowers in the world under the socialist regime still is unclear to many people around the world, and especially those outside the vast territories of Soviet influence. The country of Ukraine was one of those countries, which makes it very important to understand why the country is at the position it presently finds itself in. Thus, to help us better understand the Ukrainian economy we will look into the history of the Soviet Union.

New Social Movements And The Struggle For Worker’S Rights In The Maquila Industry, Victoria Carty
New Social Movements And The Struggle For Worker’S Rights In The Maquila Industry, Victoria Carty
Sociology Faculty Articles and Research
"Campaigns to improve worker’s rights in export processing zones (EPZs), also referred to the maquila industry in Latin America, is an important topic analytically and politically. On theoretical and practical levels, the co-existence of market economies with effective means to ensure adequate working conditions for workers is a critical question. Underlying the issue is a vigorous debate regarding how the global economy should be governed; who or what should govern it, and whose interest is should serve (Faux, 2002)."
Defining Feminism, Defining Feminisms, Reginald Oh
Defining Feminism, Defining Feminisms, Reginald Oh
Law Faculty Articles and Essays
Oh argues that feminists urgently need to define Feminism and to construct feminist theories that validate and affirm the truth of women's lived experience, in all their multiplicity and diversity. Because feminist theories are forged through the diverse experiences of differently situated women, it is respectfully suggested that the title of this Chapter may and can be seen as the call to define Feminism and Feminism(s). Defining feminism(s) means, in spirit of the "I-Thou" relationship, being mindful and respectful that individual Feminists will define Feminism in alignment with the truth of their unique experience, in alignment with the truth of …

Harper & Brothers’ Family And School District Libraries, 1830-1846., Robert S. Freeman
Harper & Brothers’ Family And School District Libraries, 1830-1846., Robert S. Freeman
Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research
In the 1830s, at the dawn of mass-market publishing, J. & J. Harper of New York began publishing several libraries, including Harper’s Family Library and Harper’s School District Library. A “library” in this sense is a series or set of uniformly bound and uniformly priced books issued by the same publisher. A leading publisher and a major force in the broad religious and social reform movements of the period, the Harper brothers helped to shape education in American homes and schools. As Methodists they were advocates of reading for moral improvement. As innovative publishers, they made full use of the …

“Required Reading For Library Administrators Part 2”, Eric C. Shoaf, Tobeylynn Birch, Mark T. Day, William B. Edgar
Publications
The library and information science literature is overflowing with how-to articles, particularly how to manage the library. Increasingly, library managers find that the time they have available to peruse such literature lessens as other professional demands intrude. With this trend in mind, members of the Comparative Library Organization Committee (CLOC), a LAMA/LOMS standing committee, decided that a list of required readings is in order. Not just another bibliography, the selection of titles was developed using citation analysis, or bibliometrics, to select highly cited authors and titles for works published outside of the professional library literature, and for works published within …
The Conservative Tradition In America, Charles W. Dunn, J. David Woodard
The Conservative Tradition In America, Charles W. Dunn, J. David Woodard
Clemson University Faculty Monographs
Conservatism, once at the periphery of American politics. now occupies
a central and strategic position in the seat of political power. The 1994
election confined a realignment of American politics along conservative
lines In the general electorate, but in the halls of academe conservatism
remains a neglected subject, on the fringes of the curriculum and
outside the door of the faculty lounge Many academics are politically
liberal, and few scholars in the social science disciplines take conservative
intellectual positions seriously
