Jacobite Past, Loyalist Present, Michael Newton
Jacobite Past, Loyalist Present, Michael Newton
e-Keltoi: Journal of Interdisciplinary Celtic Studies
This article is the first analysis of Gaelic sources relating to the involvement of Scottish Highlanders in warfare in North America from the opening of the French and Indian War to the end of the American Revolution. A careful reading of these primary sources — almost totally unknown to historians — can provide a unique window on the sentiments and reasoning of Highlanders regarding these conflicts. This analysis of contemporary Gaelic poetry demonstrates that there is a high degree of continuity and consistency in the ideological framework of the lines of political argumentation from the Jacobite era through the end …

Private Versus Public Juvenile Correctional Facilities: Do Differences In Environmental Quality Exist?, Gaylene Armstrong, Doris Layton Mackenzie
Criminology and Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
Expansion in the operation of private sector correctional facilities has sparked a number of debates. A primary concern is that environmental quality for offenders incarcerated in privately operated facilities will be poorer than publicly operated facilities due to the profit motivation of the private sector. This study examined data collected from 48 residential juvenile correctional facilities in 19 states (16 private and 32 public facilities). Self-report surveys, including cognitive assessments of 13 conditions of confinement, were administered to juvenile delinquents (N = 4,121) incarcerated in these facilities. Data from facility records were also incorporated in the analysis. A hierarchical …

Task 10: Support To The Regional Model, Irene Farnham

The Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (HRC) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has analyzed approximately 200 groundwater samples for over 60 trace elements and major solutes over the past ten years. These samples represent groundwaters from the Nevada Test Site, Amargosa Valley, the Spring Mountains, Death Valley, Ash Meadows, Pahranagat Valley, and Oasis Valley. The preparation of a data base containing all of these data is near completion and will be submitted to DOE upon its completion. Data verification is in progress. In addition, many multivariate analyses were performed to characterize the trace element compositions in …

Counteracting Anti-United States Government Images In The Muslim World, Ibpp Editor
International Bulletin of Political Psychology
The Muslim World is both a social construct and a phenomenological concept—without geographical boundaries. But United States Government (USG) efforts to counteract USG negative images perceived by denizens of the Muslim World seem to be addressing the space-time of geography but not the social and phenomenological elements from which these images spring.
