Sex, Shame, And The Law: An Economic Perspective On Megan's Law, Doron Teichman
Law & Economics Working Papers Archive: 2003-2009
This Article focuses on the question, how should policymakers aiming to minimize the cost of sanctioning utilize legal and nonlegal sanctions when designing a system of criminal sanctions. After presenting the general economic case for the use of nonlegal sanctions the article turns to present a model of shaming, which unlike existing models, incorporates the endogenous effects of legal and nonlegal sanctions. This model demonstrates that tailoring an efficient regime that combines legal and nonlegal sanctions might be more difficult than previously perceived by law and economics scholars. A specific case study presented in this article is of the current …

There is no definite explanation for how the incident happened. According to deminer, he used his tools slowly and correctly letting the rake to come towards himself by its own weight while pulling. Visual appearance of the incident lane supports this claim. Deminer’s raking tracks are visible, 50 cm in length and symmetrical.

Sales Of Livestock Insurance Scheduled To Resume, Darrell R. Mark
Sales Of Livestock Insurance Scheduled To Resume, Darrell R. Mark
Cornhusker Economics
USDAs Risk Management Agency (RMA) offered livestock producers in selected pilot states, including Nebraska, a new insurance product in 2003 called Livestock Risk Protection (LRP). It provided down-side price risk protection while allowing producers to take advantage of higher prices, similar to creating a floor price by purchasing put options. Premiums for LRP insurance changed daily and depended on current market prices and market volatility. Unlike put option premiums that change based on the current day’s futures trade, LRP premiums were determined using the previous days futures and options prices. Since LRP could be purchased until 8:00 p.m. based on …

Urban Studies and Planning Faculty Publications and Presentations
Our transportation system is a key ingredient in the economy, quality of life and urban fabric of the Portland metropolitan area. It has been stated in the past that it is not possible to manage our transportation system tomorrow unless we understand how it is performing today. In this spirit, the Portland State University Center for Transportation Studies has been working with regional and statewide partners to develop new capabilities to measure, monitor and track the performance of the transportation system in real time and using archived data sources. We believe that it is possible to leverage these disparate data …

Establishing A Cyber Warrior Force, Scott D. Tobin
Establishing A Cyber Warrior Force, Scott D. Tobin
Theses and Dissertations
Cyber Warfare is widely touted to be the next generation of warfare. As America's reliance on automated systems and information technology increases, so too does the potential vulnerability to cyber attack. Nation and non-nation states are developing the capability to wage cyber warfare. Historically, the Air Force and DoD have concentrated their efforts toward defensive network operations. However, a shift in doctrine has shown both the Air Force and DoD acknowledging the potential for Information Warfare. What appears to be lacking is the trained and educated cyber warrior force that will carry out the information operations if needed. This research …

[Name excised] and [name excised] will be sending you a very detailed report in the next few days. After seeing the site and the deminer I am going to ask him to buy my lottery ticket in the future!!. He was extremely lucky. He detonated an M4 mine 200g HE less than arms length away. He sustained a broken thumb and lacerations of his first two fingers and his face was badly bruised due to the visor hitting him due to the blast effect.
