The Relationship Between The Basic Skills Proficiency Of Counselor Education Master's Level Students And Client Outcome, Lorie Welsh

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A review of literature on the history of psychology and counseling revealed a limited amount of research on counselor education training programs, specifically basic skills versus client outcome. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between counselor educator student's basic skills and the effects these skills had on client outcome. By way of a multiple regression, two independent variables, the Global Scale for Rating Helper Responses (GSRR) and the Counselor Skills and Professional Behavior Scale (CSPBS) were analyzed in relation to the Outcome Questionnaire (OQ-45.2). Results indicated that there was no statistical significance between basic skills and …

After The Moon: A Study Of Governmental Agency Decline And Nasa, Wendy Noel Whitman Jan 2007

After The Moon: A Study Of Governmental Agency Decline And Nasa, Wendy Noel Whitman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The concept of decline has variously been applied to businesses, organizations, groups, and government (Levine 1978; Lorange and Nelson 1987; Whetten 1980). The term decline has also been used to describe various government agencies such as NASA. It is the theory put forth presently that decline in its traditional form in the literature does not apply to government agencies. Decline has been previously characterized as a time of decreasing or restricted resources, conflict, a decrease in innovativeness, a decrease in organizational size, a decrease in income or profits, and an organization's inability to adapt (Cameron, Whetten, and Kim; Weitzel and …

Leftward March: Student Liberalism At The Utah State Agricultural College, Robert Parson

Library Faculty & Staff Publications

The Great Depression and the years leading up to World War II forever changed American society. The debilitating effects of the Depression “produced a profound shaking-up of American Society,” wrote Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. (1) Economic instability, an evolving national politic, and the growing threat of another world war, all combined to catapult the United States from what it was into what it became. No one was entirely immune. The transformation affected all regions of the country politically and all segments of the population. Utah voters long wedded to conservative ideals, even repudiated the extended Republican incumbencies of Senator Reed …

Australian Firearm Identification System Based On The Ballistics Images Of Projectile Specimens, Dongguang Li Jan 2007

Australian Firearm Identification System Based On The Ballistics Images Of Projectile Specimens, Dongguang Li

Research outputs pre 2011

Charactetistic markings on the cartridge case and projectile of a fired bullet are created when it is fired. Over thirty different features within these marks can be distinguished, which in combination produce a "fingerprint" for a firearm. By analyzing features within such a set of fireann :fingerprints, it will be possible to identify not only the type and model of a fireann, but also each every individual weapon as effectively as human :fingerprint identification. A new analytic system based on fast Fourier transform (FFT) for identifying the projectile specimens by the line-scan imaging technique is proposed in this paper. Experimental …

The Use Of Context-Free Grammars In Isolated Word Recognition, Chaiyaporn Chirathamjaree Jan 2007

The Use Of Context-Free Grammars In Isolated Word Recognition, Chaiyaporn Chirathamjaree

Research outputs pre 2011

A method using nonrecursive context-free grammars is presented for the recognition of isolated words. Some form of 'training' is required to combat problems of variations in speech. In the training mode, one grammar for each word in the vocabulary is constructed directly from a set of sample strings of 'features' represented by symbols. In the recognition mode, an incoming string is analyzed to determine which grammar, if any, could have generated it. The word corresponding to such grammar is then said to have been recognized.

A Monetary Union In East Asia: What Does The Common Cycles Approach Tell?, K Sato, David E. Allen, Zhaoyong Zhang Jan 2007

A Monetary Union In East Asia: What Does The Common Cycles Approach Tell?, K Sato, David E. Allen, Zhaoyong Zhang

Research outputs pre 2011

There is controversy about whether a monetary union is feasible in the East Asian region. Amongst the criteria for establishing a monetary union, most of the existing studies focus on the symmetric issue of fundamental shocks and the extent of correlations by applying the Blanchard and Quah (1989) structural vector autoregression (VAR) technique, which includes the firstdifferenced variables in the model and examines only bilateral relationships. When forming a monetary union, the member countries need to renounce their monetary policy autonomy. If shocks to respective economies are symmetric, the cost of relinquishing the discretionary monetary policy is likely to be …

The Time Is Now: The Emerging Need For Master's-Level Training In Forensic Psychology, Matt Zaitchik, Garrett Berman, Don Whitworth, Judith Platania

Arts & Sciences Faculty Publications

Since the inception of the first doctoral program in psychology and law in 1974, master’s level training in forensic psychology has been virtually ignored by the field of psychology and law. Given the changes in the workplace over the past few decades, master’s level clinicians are providing more psychological services, often under the supervision of doctoral-level providers. Master’s training programs are emerging in forensic psychology to fill the need of forensically-trained clinicians at the master’s level. This article proposes a Bifurcated Education Model (BEM) in advocating for forensic psychology training at master’s level. Citing the Villanova Conference on Training in …

The breeding and training programmes were improved leading to higher efficiencies.

APOPO was given international recognition and exposure: its founder, Bart Weetjens, was awarded by Ashoka and Schwab Foundation.

APOPO was also endorsed by 11 Heads of States in the International Conference of …

Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices Related To Landmines And Unexploded Ordnance, Hi Jan 2007

Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices Related To Landmines And Unexploded Ordnance, Hi

Global CWD Repository

In Somalia, there is an identified need to undertake a mine risk education program. Although the quantitative number of landmines and UXO has been reliably established since the Landmine Impact Survey conducted in 2003, it is clear that communities living in particular areas of Somalia have a high perception of living in a mined area. An initial first step in designing an appropriate mine risk education program in Somaliland has been established by Handicap International and UNICEF collaboratively through a survey conducted in 2002, which undertook this Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices in three regions of the North West Zone. The …

Capital Characteristics Of Thai Elites In The Bangkok Period (1782-2007), Rungnapa Yanyongkasemsuk

Asian Review

Pierre Bourdieu described the production and reproduction of intellectual, economic, political, and bureaucratic elites in France using empirical evidence to analyze the relationship of capitals and the elites' position in the social field. He concluded that cultural capital was the most important factor, but that wealth was also essential and could be transformed into other forms of capital. Based on Bourdieu's approach, this paper describes the characteristics of Thai elites before the revolution in 1932 and those in the new political era. Elites in Thai society include members of the royal family, aristocrats, overseas Chinese businessmen, and intellectuals. The inheritance …

Determinants Of French Colonial Expansion In Southeast Asia, 1880-93, Deniz Kocak Jan 2007

Determinants Of French Colonial Expansion In Southeast Asia, 1880-93, Deniz Kocak

Asian Review

The essay analyzes and highlights the motives, determinants and scopes of three French influential actor groups: The French government, geographic societies and colonial associations, and the "men on the spot". While the government faced domestic struggles and set the colonial agenda, the geographic societies and colonial associations promoted French expansionist imperial rule, and the men on the spot, who represented France at the periphery, shaped the expansion by their own interests and ideas. The aim of this essay is to point out that the French colonial policy under the government of Jules Ferry did not follow any well elaborated concept, …

Riding The Wheel: Selling American Women Mobility And Geographic Knowledge, Christina E. Dando Jan 2007

Riding The Wheel: Selling American Women Mobility And Geographic Knowledge, Christina E. Dando

Geography and Geology Faculty Publications

The bicycle's “prime” was a mere decade, 1890-1900, but in this brief window, it had a profound impact on American women’s lives. This paper will examine the role of the media in transforming women's relationship to their world, altering how, where and why they moved through the landscape, drawing from work on cartographic culture, actor-network theory and consumption and mass culture. Through popular magazine articles, stories, advertisements, and maps, American women (as well as men) were “informed” of the possibilities the bicycle had to offer, modeling geographic mobility, greater spatial awareness, and the practice of both cartography and landscape. Women …

Microclimates In The Portland-Vancouver Regional Economy, Sheila A. Martin Jan 2007

Microclimates In The Portland-Vancouver Regional Economy, Sheila A. Martin

Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies Publications

Portland-Vancouver operates as a regional market for labor, housing, entertainment, and a broad range of goods and services. The 2006 Regional Business Plan was developed with the understanding that each part of our region is linked economically and that the economic performance of each community depends on the success of its neighbors. Nevertheless, the region is not economically homogeneous. Each community demonstrates specific industry concentrations. These concentrations are driven by factors that encourage similar or linked businesses to locate near one another. And population demographics vary, affecting each sub-region's economic performance as our workforce travels throughout the region to find …

Collaboration: Critical Success Factors For Student Learning, Ken Haycock

Faculty Publications

Several studies identify collaboration between classroom teachers and teacher-librarians as a key factor that affects student achievement. Studies in teacher-librarianship have established procedures and processes for effective collaboration. This study examines collaboration from a broader theoretical and research perspective, beginning with 20 factors that specifically influence successful collaborations. These are clustered in six areas: factors related to the environment, to membership characteristics, to process and structure, to communication, to purpose, and to resources. Research from teacher-librarianship is then applied to substantiate and reinforce the factors and provide context for successful collaboration and thus effect on students' learning in schools. The Influence Of Diaphragmatic Breathing To Reduce Situational Anxiety For Basic Course Students, Marlina Marie Howe, Karen Kangas Dwyer Jan 2007

The Influence Of Diaphragmatic Breathing To Reduce Situational Anxiety For Basic Course Students, Marlina Marie Howe, Karen Kangas Dwyer

Basic Communication Course Annual

Researchers in physiology and health fields have reported a significant impact from using diaphragmatic breathing (DB) to help individuals reduce anxiety. However, few communication researchers have explored the use of this simple DB technique to help basic course students reduce communication apprehension (CA). Thus, this investigation explored the use of diaphragmatic breathing (DB) in helping students moderate CA. Respondents completed McCroskey’s (1982) Personal Reports of Communication Apprehension (PRCA-24) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) after each of four formal classroom speeches. Results indicated the experimental group using DB reported a significant decrease in state anxiety from speech the first two …
