Imagings On Sydney's Edge, Myth, Mourning And Memory In A Fringe Community, Ian Willis
Imagings On Sydney's Edge, Myth, Mourning And Memory In A Fringe Community, Ian Willis
Ian Willis
Sydney’s metropolitan fringe is a theatre for the creation and loss of collective memories, cultural myths and community grieving around cultural icons, traditions and rituals. European settlement took the dreaming of the Aborigines and then had its own dreaming removed by an invasion from the east in the form of Sydney’s urban growth. The re-making of place in and around the fringe community of Camden illustrates the destruction and re-construction of cultural landscapes. Locals dream of retaining the aesthetics of an inter-war country town and in doing so have created an illusion of a historical myth of a ‘country town …

Rethinking Library Instruction: Using Learning Outcome Based Design To Teach Online Search Strategies, Meagan Lacy, Hsin-Liang Chen
Rethinking Library Instruction: Using Learning Outcome Based Design To Teach Online Search Strategies, Meagan Lacy, Hsin-Liang Chen
University Libraries Faculty Research & Creative Works
Given the growing pressure on academic institutions and, by extension, academic libraries to establish student learning outcomes and demonstrate their impact on student learning, researchers at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) explored how outcome-based instructional design can be used to 1) collect student data, 2) assess student learning, and 3) improve instruction. Two surveys were distributed to 59 undergraduate students who were enrolled in an introductory composition course at IUPUI. Because previous studies (e.g. Ford, Miller and Moss 2005) have linked human individual differences with web search strategy, the first survey collected information about the students’ demographic features. …

Preserving Content From Your Institutional Repository, Wendy C Robertson, Carol Ann Borchert
Wendy C Robertson
Between institutional repositories and hosting journals, many libraries are becoming responsible for scholarly content in new ways. While PDFs are the most common format today, the unique, local, serial content may be in variety of formats. These items may be digitized text, born digital text, audio, video, or images. This presentation will discuss formats that will remain accessible through time (PDF/A, txt, xml) so that content is not locked in proprietary formats. It will also discuss options for backing up items and associated metadata, including simple back-ups, off-site storage of files, LOCKSS, Private LOCKSS Networks, and Portico. The presenters will …

Work Hope And The Socioemotional Functioning Of Offenders, David Guion
Work Hope And The Socioemotional Functioning Of Offenders, David Guion
Theses and Dissertations
For offenders returning to society at record levels, securing work looms as one of the most crucial factors in successful reentry. Work hope is a construct that seeks to measure the relative presence of goals of securing desired work, thoughts about how to achieve those goals, and agency to achieve those goals, even in the presence of obstacles. This study sought to examine relationships among work hope, the socioemotional variables of attachment, emotion regulation, physical, relational, and workplace victimization, and coping, and the career-related variables of perceptions of career-related barriers and complexity level of career goals. The sample comprised cohorts …
