This paper presents a novel dielectrophoresis (DEP)-based microfluidic device, which incorporates multiple round hurdles within an S-shaped curved microchannel for continuous manipulation and separation of microparticles. Local nonuniform electric fields are induced by means of both constricted gaps formed between hurdles and outer channel wall, and variable current lengths in curved sections with equal width. Under the effect of negative DEP, particles will be directed away from either inner wall or hurdle edge, as they transport throughout the microchannel electrokinetically. This article investigates the effect of three uncertain parameters on a model of conjugated polymer actuators. These uncertain parameters are the diffusion coefficient (D), the resistance (R), and the double-layer WKLFNQHVV / 7KH PRGHO VHQVLWLvity to these parameters is analyzed and a parameter estimation study is performed using artificially generated data as well as laboratory yielded experimental measurements. “Centrifuge-on-a-chip” is a versatile and multifunctional microfluidic chip which can conduct operations of selective trapping, enrichment, labeling and solution exchange. In this work, the mechanism of selective trapping ability was studied by both the experiments and numerical simulation. We proved the existence of shear gradient lift force in the expansion-contraction cavity and derived an explicit expression of it. Also, a numerical modeling was developed to study the trapping process of micro-particles in a “Centrifuge-on-a-chip”. This paper proposes a series of methods for representing changes in human motion during injury rehabilitation using Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) inertial sensors. Tracking the changes over a recovery period requires methods for evaluating the similarity of movement in an impaired state against a non-impaired state. This paper presents the application of four nonlinear methods of feature extraction in slewing bearing condition monitoring and prognosis: these are largest Lyapunov exponent, fractal dimension, correlation dimension, and approximate entropy methods. We introduce a robust image-formation approach for through-the-wall radar imaging (TWRI). The proposed approach consists of two stages involving compressive sensing (CS) followed by delay-and-sum (DS) beamforming. In the first stage, CS is used to reconstruct a complete set of measurements from a small subset collected with a reduced number of transceivers and frequencies. DS beamforming is then applied to form the image using the reconstructed measurements. To promote sparsity of the CS solution, an overcomplete Gabor dictionary is employed to sparsely represent the imaged scene. Connes and Cuntz showed in [Comm. Math. Phys. 114 (1988), 515-526] that suitable cyclic cocycles can be represented as Chern characters of finitely summable semifinite Fredholm modules. We show an analogous result in twisted cyclic cohomology using Chern characters of modular Fredholm modules. We present examples of modular Fredholm modules arising from Podles sphereś and from SUq (2).

The effect of deformation temperature on Nb solute clustering, precipitation and the kinetics of austenite recrystallisation were studied in a steel containing 0.081C–0.021Ti–0.064 Nb (wt%). Thermo-mechanical processing was carried out using a Gleeble 3500 simulator. The austenite microstructure was studied using a combination of optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and atom probe microscopy, enabling a careful characterisation of grain size, as well as Nb-rich clustering and precipitation processes. A correlation between the austenite recrystallisation kinetics and the chemistry, size and number density of Nb-rich solute atom clusters, and NbTi(C,N) precipitates was established via the austenite deformation temperature. Continuous cooling transformation (CCT) characteristics of microalloyed steels with different tungsten (W) contents (0, 0.1 and 1. wt.%) were investigated to obtain the necessary information for heat treatment of these steels. The effects of W addition on the sizes of prior austenite grains and precipitates were analysed. CCT diagrams were obtained by varying the cooling rates from 0.1 to 120. °C/s. Transformation characteristics were determined by using dilatometer test, microscopic observation and hardness measurement. A germanium-graphene nanocomposite material with three-dimensional nanostructures has been synthesized by an efficient one-step, in situ, and aqueous-based method. The electrochemical properties of the germanium-graphene nanocomposite have been evaluated by galvanostatic discharge-charge cycling, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Results show that the germanium-graphene nanocomposite has a much more stable cycling performance than that of the pure germanium, with a capacity of about 832 mA h g-1 after 50 cycles. The rate capability is also improved significantly. The commercially available X-ray fluoroscopy quality assurance phantom, the Leeds test object TOR18FG, was found to be suitable to assess T-ray image quality in the range (0.1-0.4) THz at a depth of 0.5 cm. Previous to this only custom made phantoms, made especially for the T-ray region, assessed T-ray spatial resolution. It would be interesting if a signcryption scheme in the standard model could be made certificateless. One of the interesting attempts is due to Liu et al. [Z. Liu, Y. Hu, X. Zhang, H. Ma, Certificateless signcryption scheme in the standard model, Information Sciences 180 (3) (2010) 452-464]. In this paper, we provide a cryptanalysis on this scheme by depicting two kinds of subtle public key replacement attacks against it. Our analysis reveals that it does not meet the basic requirements of confidentiality and non-repudiation.

In this paper, detailed laboratory investigations were conducted on coal wash produced at coal mine, Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Geotechnical tests were conducted to determine the particle size distribution, compaction characteristics, shear resistance and collapse potential. The compaction tests were conducted under dry and submerged condition to examine the compactability and the strength of the coal wash. The laboratory tests show that compacted coal wash has good potential as effective fill for embankments, and land reclamation. Although coal wash is compacted under submerged condition, increased level of compaction has minimal effect.

Sedimentation in dams' reservoirs is one of the most pressing concerns facing dams today. Maroon reservoir dam, located in Khuzestan Province, is one of the most important dams in this region. Since it is a new constructed dam, numerical simulation of sedimentation trend in its reservoirs could significantly help on a better utilization. To this end, TCM model which is capable to simulate density currents was used. The obtained results show that the dam loses about 91 million m3 of its reservoirs during a 50-year exploitation period.

The microstructure evolution of cold-rolled and isochronally annealed Fe-24Mn-3Al-2Si-1Ni-0.06C twinning induced plasticity steel was investigated by electron back-scattering diffraction (EBSD). Deformation behaviour of a fully recrystallised sample was tracked in a selected area as a function of the true strain using a combination of interrupted tensile testing and EBSD. The results show that the cold rolled microstructure contained a large fraction of primary and secondary twins as well as remnants of annealing twins carried over from the prior hot rolling stage. This paper introduces a new concept called controllable ring signature which is ring signature with additional properties as follow. (1) Anonymous identifica-tion: by an anonymous identification protocol, the real signer can anonymously prove his authorship of the ring signature to the verifier. And this proof is non-transferable. (2) Linkable signature: the real signer can generate an anonymous signature such that every one can verify whether both this anonymous signature and the ring signature are generated by the same anonymous signer. This paper examines the impact of speed limits on network efficiency, in terms of total travel time of all road users, and equity among road users from different origin-destination (OD) pairs, in terms of the change of travel time after imposing a speed limit scheme. We find that after imposing a speed limit scheme, the total travel time of all road users may decrease or increase; road users of some OD pairs may experience longer travel time, while other OD pairs may have shorter travel time. Surface roughness affects the friction behaviour, stress distribution and surface quality; moreover this influence is more significant when scaling down the strip size. A novel approach has been proposed to investigate the surface roughness in asymmetric rolling based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Evolution of asperity flattening, contact area ratio and surface roughness is investigated under various simulation rolling conditions. The model reviewed numerical solutions for real surfaces with asperities of arbitrary shape and varying size and height distributions.
