Social networking has become an inevitable part of our routine life. Such media open up a wide variety of tools that facilitate communication with fellow beings. This study tried to understand the use of social networking sites by the youth; especially the engineering students. Data was collected through survey method using a structured questionnaire. The results show that students keep profiles on multiple social networking sites, but use only one site actively. It is believed that the result becomes baselines in the planning of library activities to include collection development programs, orientation programs, and promotional enhancements. This paper gives national and international perspectives of librarianship and examined the repositioning of libraries in Nigeria’s educational system to make them competitive in line with global best practices. Library leadership, training and curriculum content for professionalism and funding were looked at as devices for competitiveness vis-à-vis international university standards. Recommendations were made for leadership training and review of library school curriculums to reflect new trends in librarianship as well as promotion of reading culture, among others, for global competitiveness.

Purpose - Webometric studies, using link analysis between websites and URL analysis as the basic data type, have been used to assess institutional networks, and to analyse the level of homogeneity among the CIHMs websites.

Design/methodology/approach - data were collected from the websites of all 21 IHMs (Central institutes) using three different tools, viz., Google search engine; moz.com (earlier www.opensiteexplorer.org) and webpagetest.org (originally developed by AOL).

This paper examines with scientometric tools a total of 7659 publications on natural hazards indexed in web of science database during the period 2006-2015. The average number of publications published per year was 765.9. The highest number of publications (1264) was recorded in the year 2015. The relative growth rates (RGR) has decreased from 2007 (0.72) to 2015 (0.18) in the span of 10 years. The doubling time (DT) has gradually increased from 0.96 in 2007 to 3.85 in 2015. This paper examines the validity of Lotka’s law of scientific publication productivity of the articles published on Bell’s palsy disease during 2004-2018. Data for this analysis was retrieved from WOS data base of Clarivate analytics. In this study, the straight and complete count of authorship was used. A total of 4039 articles along with 3384 and 14517 authors were identified by using straight and complete count method of authorship respectively. K-S goodness of- fit statistical test were employed to verify the applicability of Lotka’s law. The results showed that, Lotka’s law fits with the data of straight count of authors. …
