เสนาภิวัฒน์ของระบบกฎหมายไทยในช่วงระบอบรัฐประหาร 2557 - 2562, ดวงกมล ประดิษฐ์ด้วง

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการบังคับใช้กฎหมายของคณะรักษาความสงบแห่งชาติ (คสช.) ในปี พ.ศ.2557 – 2562 ก่อนเลือกตั้ง ตามหลักเสรีประชาธิปไตย ตลอดจนศึกษาการวางฐานทางรัฐธรรมนูญและกฎหมายในการสืบทอดอำนาจของคณะรักษาความสงบแห่งชาติ วิธีการศึกษาดำเนินการใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยการค้นคว้ารวบรวมข้อมูลทางเอกสารทางรัฐศาสตร์และนิติศาสตร์ จากแหล่งข้อมูลในการศึกษามาจากบทบัญญัติกฎหมาย หนังสือ บทความวารสาร งานวิจัยวิทยานิพนธ์ ข้อมูลสถิติหรือเอกสารเผยแพร่ทางราชการหรือหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง ข้อมูลสารสนเทศจากเครือข่ายอินเตอร์เน็ต ตลอดจนการศึกษากฎหมาย รวมถึงการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก เพื่อนำมาวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลและสามารถนำมาปรับใช้กับงานวิจัยชิ้นนี้ ผลการวิจัยสรุปว่า คณะรัฐประหารรักษาความสงบแห่งชาติ (คสช.) พยายามใช้กฎหมายฉบับต่าง ๆ ดังนี้ ประการแรก การใช้กฎหมายทั่วไป ประการที่สอง การใช้รัฐธรรมนูญแห่งราชอาณาจักรไทย (ฉบับชั่วคราว) พุทธศักราช 2557 และประการสุดท้าย การใช้รัฐธรรมนูญแห่งราชอาณาจักรไทย พุทธศักราช 2560 เพื่อเป็นเครื่องมือในการเข้ามาควบคุมทางการเมือง ซึ่งไม่สอดคล้องกับหลักเสรีประชาธิปไตย อีกทั้ง ยังส่งผลต่อการวางรากฐานค้ำจุนให้กับระบอบรัฐประหารในระยะยาวอีกด้วย การวิจัยนี้จึงเสนอให้มีแนวทางในการแก้ไขปัญหาการใช้กฎหมายของคณะรัฐประหารดังกล่าวให้มีความสอดคล้องกับหลักเสรีประชาธิปไตย โดยอาศัยหลักประชาธิปไตยและหลักนิติธรรมควบคู่กัน ในลักษณะเป็นกลไกที่ส่งเสริมซึ่งกันและกันคือ การใช้กฎหมายเป็นกรอบในการควบคุมและจำกัดการใช้อำนาจ (rule of law) ของคณะรัฐประหารทุกช่วงเวลา เพื่อป้องกันการเข้ามารัฐประหาร รวมถึงคุ้มครองสิทธิและเสรีภาพของประชาชนไม่ให้ถูกละเมิดจากการใช้อำนาจดังกล่าว ฉะนั้น หากประเทศไทยสามารถทำให้หลักการนิติธรรมสามารถเกิดได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรม หลักการดังกล่าวนั้นก็จะช่วยส่งเสริมระบอบประชาธิปไตยสามารถทำงานตรวจสอบและถ่วงดุลอำนาจได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ

ในปัจจุบัน หลายองค์การให้ความสำคัญกับการบริหารงานแบบล่างขึ้นบนที่สนับสนุนให้พนักงานแสดงความคิดเห็นเพื่อพัฒนาองค์การ งานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความถ่อมตนของผู้นำกับพฤติกรรมแสดงความเห็นและพฤติกรรมเงียบของพนักงาน โดยมีความปลอดภัยทางจิตใจเป็นตัวแปรส่งผ่าน และมีความกล้าหาญของผู้นำเป็นตัวแปรกำกับ ผู้วิจัยศึกษาพฤติกรรมแสดงความเห็นโดยแบ่งออกเป็น 2 มิติ ได้แก่ การพูดพร้อมคำแนะนำและการพูดเกี่ยวกับข้อกังวล และศึกษาพฤติกรรมเงียบโดยแบ่งออกเป็น 2 มิติ ได้แก่ การเงียบเพื่อป้องกันภัยที่อาจเกิดขึ้นกับตนเองและการเงียบเพราะเชื่อว่าเสียงของตนเองไม่มีผลต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลง ผู้วิจัยเก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มตัวอย่าง 210 คนที่เป็นพนักงานประจำในบริษัทเอกชนในประเทศไทยที่มีจำนวนพนักงานมากกว่า 100 คน เก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามออนไลน์ ผลการวิเคราะห์โดยใช้ PROCESS ในโปรแกรม SPSS พบว่า ความถ่อมตนของผู้นำมีอิทธิพลรวมต่อพฤติกรรมแสดงความเห็นรูปแบบการพูดพร้อมคำแนะนำและพฤติกรรมเงียบทั้งสองรูปแบบ ความปลอดภัยทางจิตใจเป็นตัวแปรส่งผ่านแบบสมบูรณ์ทางบวกระหว่างความถ่อมตนของผู้นำไปยังพฤติกรรมการพูดพร้อมคำแนะนำ และความปลอดภัยทางจิตใจเป็นตัวแปรส่งผ่านแบบสมบูรณ์ทางลบระหว่างความถ่อมตนของผู้นำไปยังพฤติกรรมเงียบเพื่อป้องกันภัยที่อาจเกิดขึ้นกับตนเอง ความปลอดภัยทางจิตใจยังเป็นตัวแปรส่งผ่านเพียงบางส่วนทางลบระหว่างความถ่อมตนของผู้นำไปยังพฤติกรรมเงียบที่เชื่อว่าเสียงของตนเองไม่มีผลกระทบต่อการตัดสินใจ อย่างไรก็ตามผลการวิจัยไม่พบว่าความกล้าหาญของผู้นำแสดงอิทธิพลกำกับในความสัมพันธ์ดังกล่าว องค์ความรู้นี้เสนอแนะถึงความสำคัญของการพัฒนาภาวะผู้นำที่มีความถ่อมตนเพื่อสนับสนุนให้พนักงานรู้สึกปลอดภัยทางจิตใจเพื่อที่จะกล้าแสดงความเห็นและลดพฤติกรรมเงียบ

The study’s objective is to examine Chinese consumers' exposure to Weibo posts, their environmental awareness, and behavioral tendency regarding environmental issues. This study examines the association between Chinese consumers' exposure to Weibo posts and awareness regarding environmental issues and the relationship between environmental awareness and consumer behavior. An online survey collected data from 200 individuals aged 18 to 59 exposed to Greenpeace, Weibo Environmental Protection, or other ecological posts on Weibo between October 1, 2020, and October 31, 2021. การศึกษาการดำเนินงานขององค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นในการเตรียมการเข้าสู่วัยผู้สูงอายุของกลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวาย กรณีศึกษาพื้นที่อำเภอโคกโพธิ์ จังหวัดปัตตานี เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการดำเนินงานขององค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นในการเตรียมการเข้าสู่วัยสูงอายุของกลุ่มเจนเนอเรชั่นวาย ในพื้นที่อำเภอโคกโพธิ์ จังหวัดปัตตานี โดยพิจารณาบทบาทหน้าที่ขององค์กรที่เกี่ยวข้องในการขับเคลื่อนนโยบายสาธารณะ และเพื่อให้คนรุ่นใหม่เกิดการตระหนักในการเตรียมความพร้อมในการเข้าสู่วัยสูงอายุพร้อมที่จะเป็นผู้สูงอายุที่มีคุณภาพในอนาคต และเพื่อศึกษาประสิทธิผลของการนำนโยบายและโครงการที่เกี่ยวข้องไปปฏิบัติ ความท้าทาย และอุปสรรคที่เกิดขึ้นในขั้นตอนการนำนโยบายไปปฏิบัติเพื่อนำไปประกอบแนวทางการปรับปรุงนโยบายต่อไป การศึกษานี้ใช้วิธีการศึกษาผ่านเอกสารและการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง โดยแบ่งผู้ให้สัมภาษณ์ออกเป็น 4 กลุ่ม ได้แก่ เจ้าหน้าที่องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นในเขตอำเภอโคกโพธิ์ จังหวัดปัตตานี กลุ่มภาคีเครือข่ายภาคประชาสังคมขับเคลื่อนงานในพื้นที่ กลุ่มประธานผู้สูงอายุหรือผู้สูงอายุในพื้นที่และกลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายในพื้นที่ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า การดำเนินงานขององค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นในการเตรียมการเข้าสู่วัยผู้สูงอายุกลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวาย ในพื้นที่อำเภอโคกโพธิ์ จังหวัดปัตตานี หากพิจารณาจากบทบาทหน้าที่ของผู้ปฏิบัติงานในการดำเนินงานในพื้นที่ และประสิทธิผลยังไม่ประสบความสำเร็จ ถึงแม้เจ้าหน้าองค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นจะมีการดำเนินงานพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตให้ประชากรในพื้นที่มีคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดี แต่ยังไม่มีนโยบายที่จัดทำขึ้นมาเพื่อให้กลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายที่ชัดเจน ที่จะทำให้กลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายเกิดความตระหนักในการเตรียมการเข้าสู่วัยผู้สูงอายุในอนาคต และกลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายมองว่าโครงการที่หน่วยงานภาครัฐดำเนินการบางโครงการไม่ตอบโจทย์ความต้องการของกลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายพื้นที่ในระยะยาว เนื่องจากการดำเนินงานที่ผ่านมาของเจ้าหน้าที่รัฐที่ไม่ได้สนับสนุนอย่างต่อเนื่องและรอบด้าน อีกทั้งกลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายยังไม่เข้าใจวัตถุประสงค์ของโครงการ และกลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายในพื้นที่ยังมีทัศนคติเชิงลบต่อการดำเนินงานของเจ้าหน้าที่รัฐอีกด้วย การศึกษาพบว่าสามารถปรับปรุงแนวทางนโยบายได้โดยการออกนโยบายการเตรียมความพร้อมในการเป็นผู้สูงอายุของกลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มคนส่วนใหญ่ที่ขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจของประเทศในขณะนี้รัฐควรมีการผลักดันให้พื้นที่หน่วยงานส่วนท้องถิ่นมีการวางแผนการดำเนินงานเฉพาะ เพื่อให้กลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายออกแบบชีวิตของตนเองได้ในอนาคต ทั้งทางด้านเศรษฐกิจ ด้านสังคม ด้านสุขภาพ และด้านสภาพแวดล้อม อีกทั้ง ท้องถิ่นควรเร่งดำเนินการผลักดันโครงการที่ทำให้กลุ่มเจเนเรชั่นวายในพื้นที่เกิดความตระหนัก และทราบถึงผลกระทบเมื่อต้องเป็นผู้สูงอายุในอนาคต นอกจากนี้องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นต้องพัฒนาตนเอง มีการนำเทคโนโลยีและนวัตกรรมมาปรับใช้กับการดำเนินงาน และในด้านการเข้าถึงข้อมูลภาครัฐควรเปิดเผยข้อมูลเพื่อให้ประชาชนสามารถตรวจสอบได้ เกิดความโปร่งใสในการปฏิบัติงานได้อีกด้วย

องค์การที่มีวัฒนธรรมองค์การแบบเน้นความสมดุลระหว่างชีวิตและการทำงานย่อมส่งผลให้ผู้ปฏิบัติงานมีความพึงพอใจ เกิดประสิทธิภาพในการปฏิบัติงาน มีชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ที่ดี และที่สำคัญคือมีความรักและผูกพันต่อองค์การ ซึ่งนำไปสู่การธำรงรักษาบุคลากรในองค์การ การศึกษาครั้งนี้จึงมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เพื่อศึกษาวัฒนธรรมองค์การของ อบจ.ตาก ในปัจจุบันที่ขับเคลื่อนองค์การไปสู่ความสมดุลระหว่างชีวิตและการทำงาน 2) เพื่อประเมินความพร้อมของวัฒนธรรมองค์การในการขับเคลื่อน อบจ.ตาก ไปสู่ความสมดุลระหว่างชีวิตและการทำงาน 3) เพื่อศึกษาแนวทางในการปรับเปลี่ยนหรือเสริมสร้างวัฒนธรรมองค์การที่เหมาะสมในการขับเคลื่อน อบจ.ตาก ไปสู่ความสมดุลระหว่างชีวิตและการทำงาน โดยมีกลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญ คือ ข้าราชการ อบจ.ตาก ซึ่งได้ดำเนินการคัดเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 19 ราย โดยรูปแบบของการศึกษาเป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากเอกสารและการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก โดยมีมิติของวัฒนธรรมองค์การแบบเน้นความสมดุลระหว่างชีวิตและการทำงานของ Bradley และคณะ (2008) จำนวน 4 มิติ เป็นกรอบในการศึกษา ซึ่งผลการศึกษาพบว่า จากการประเมินความพร้อมของวัฒนธรรมองค์การของ อบจ.ตาก มิติ Time Demands และมิติ Support from Management มีความพร้อมอยู่ในระดับพึงพอใจ ในขณะที่มิติ Perceived Negative Career Consequences และมิติ Co-Worker Support มีความพร้อมอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ซึ่งในภาพรวมถือว่า อบจ.ตาก มีความพร้อมของวัฒนธรรมองค์การในการขับเคลื่อนองค์การไปสู่ความสมดุลระหว่างชีวิตและการทำงาน แต่อย่างไรก็ดี อบจ.ตาก สามารถปรับปรุงและจัดวัฒนธรรมองค์การเพื่อเพิ่มหรือส่งเสริมให้เกิดความพร้อมยิ่งขึ้นได้

งานวิจัยนี้เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาของรายการเรียลลิตี้ค้นหาศิลปินของประเทศเกาหลีใต้ และวิเคราะห์คุณลักษณะของศิลปินเกาหลีใต้ ผู้วิจัยใช้วิธีการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา โดยสร้างตารางวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาของรายการโปรดิวซ์ 101 ฤดูกาลที่ 1 โปรดิวซ์ 101 ฤดูกาลที่ 2 และ โปรดิวซ์ 48 และตารางวิเคราะห์คุณลักษณะของผู้ชนะที่ได้รับคัดเลือกเป็นศิลปินจากรายการดังกล่าว ก่อนนำข้อมูลทั้งหมดมาวิเคราะห์แล้วนำเสนอในแบบพรรณณาวิเคราะห์ผลการศึกษาพบว่า 1) ขั้นตอนการสร้างศิลปินของประเทศเกาหลีใต้ที่พบจากรายการทั้ง 3 ฤดูกาล มีทั้งหมด 5 ขั้นตอน คือ การทดสอบระดับทักษะ การแข่งขันแบบกลุ่ม การแข่งขันตามตำแหน่ง การประเมินแนวคิด และการประเมินเพลงเดบิวต์ 2) การเล่าเรื่องของทั้ง 3 ฤดูกาลแบ่งเนื้อหารายการออกเป็น 7 ช่วง ได้แก่ การเปิดตัวหรือเปิดเรื่อง การสร้างเรื่องราว การแสดงเพลงและทำภารกิจ การเรียนและการซ้อม การประกาศภารกิจหรือประกาศผลคะแนน กิจกรรมพิเศษ และเบื้องหลังอื่น ๆ เนื้อหาแต่ละช่วงมีรสเกิดขึ้นหลากหลายซึ่งรสที่เกิดขึ้นในรายการมีทั้งหมด 7 รส ได้แก่ รักหรือพึงพอใจ สนุกหรือตลกขบขัน สงสารหรือเห็นใจ ชื่นชมความพยายามหรือความตั้งใจ แปลกใจหรือประหลาดใจ หงุดหงิดหรือโกรธ และกลัวหรือตื่นเต้นตกใจ รสที่พบเพิ่มและไม่อยู่ในทฤษฎีรสและภาวะ คือ ความรู้สึกเครียดหรือกดดัน 3) คุณลักษณะของกลุ่มศิลปินเกาหลี ได้แก่ รูปร่างหน้าตาและภาพลักษณ์ดูดี เต้นและร้องหรือแรปได้ในเวลาเดียวกัน ท่าเต้นมีความสวยงามเป็นระเบียบ แสดงสีหน้าท่าทางเพื่อสื่ออารมณ์เพลงอย่างชัดเจน และผ่านขั้นตอนการฝึกมาอย่างเป็นระบบ คุณลักษณะของศิลปินเกาหลีรายบุคคลแบ่งเป็นคุณลักษณะภายใน ได้แก่ มีความมุ่งมั่นและแรงจูงใจ มีความอดทนไม่ย่อท้อ มีระเบียบวินัยและความรับผิดชอบ มีภาพลักษณ์หรือทัศนคติเชิงบวก และคุณลักษณะภายนอก ได้แก่ รูปลักษณ์ภายนอกดูดี มีทักษะความสามารถที่จำเป็นในการเป็นศิลปิน มีความสามารถในการแสดงสีหน้าท่าทาง และมีทักษะพิเศษที่เป็นประโยชน์ต่อการทำงานในวงการบันเทิง

The Effect Of Parental Food Neophobia On Children’S Fruit And Vegetable Acceptance: A Serial Mediation Model, Christina Sophia Marlow

The United States is currently facing a child obesity epidemic. One possible contributor to this epidemic is children’s low intake of healthful foods such as fruits and vegetables. In order to investigate factors associated with children’s low fruit and vegetable liking and acceptance, we recruited 150 children between the ages of 5 and 10 years of age (Mage = 92.47 mo. , 44.7% female). Based on previous research, we measured parental and child neophobia using adult and child versions of the food neophobia scale, and parents’ reports of children’s fruit and vegetable offered at home. This study investigated the effect of supervision training on participating school counselors’ supervision knowledge and supervisor self-efficacy. A randomized experimental research design allowed the unbiased examination of outcomes associated with participation in the Site Supervision Training for School Counselors (SST-SC) program. The researcher conducted repeated measures analyses of variance to explore the effect of a seven-week, asynchronous online site supervision training intervention on school counselors’ supervision knowledge and supervisor self-efficacy. The results indicated a statistically significant main effect for time for supervision knowledge, with both groups showing an increase in test scores from pre- to post-test, regardless of participation in …

Looking For Better: A History Of Black Southern Migrations, Selena Sanderfer Doss

A broad overview of migrations affecting black southerners is presented, including the Atlantic slave trade, the domestic slave trade, colonization movements to Sierra Leone and Liberia, the Exoduster movement, the Great Migration, and the Return South migration. Emigrants convey their experiences and motivations through testimonies and personal accounts. Surviving the trauma of forced migrations, black southerners organized numerous migration movements both outside and within American polities in search of better opportunities. In the late 20th century, black southerners also initiated a return migration to the American South and have since achieved notable socioeconomic and political progress.

Adaptation to sea level rise (SLR) requires coordination among local, state, and federal entities and collaboration across governments, nonprofits, businesses, and residents. This coordination and collaboration are reflected in institutional arrangements associated with a whole-of-government and whole-of-community approach to regional adaptation. This study analyzes the development of an interlocal agreement (ILA), the Hampton Roads Sea Level Rise Preparedness and Resilience Intergovernmental Planning Pilot Project (the Pilot Project), as an example of such an arrangement. This study assesses how factors throughout three phases of ILA development (initiation, implementation, and execution) influence outcomes and effectiveness. What explains the puzzle of life without parole (LWOP) sentencing in the United States? In the past two decades, LWOP sentences have reached record highs, with over 50,000 prisoners serving LWOP. Purpose: This study examined the implementation of an educational module regarding development of communication skills between dental hygiene students and the geriatric population. The educational module assessed students’ perceived abilities and confidence in communicating with the geriatric population. Subsequently, a standardized rubric determined if there is a difference between how faculty assess students, patients assess students, and students assess themselves.

Background: Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) methods can be used to remotely assess physical and mental health in daily life for hard-to-reach, marginalized, and geographically dispersed populations in the U.S., such as sexual minority women (e.g., lesbian, bisexual). However, EMA studies are often complex, and engaging participants from afar can be a challenge. This study experimentally examined whether adding videos to written recruitment materials would improve consent rates, reduce dropout rates, and improve survey completion rates for an online daily diary study.

Perinatal (antenatal and postpartum) depression impacts approximately 12% of mothers. Perinatal depression can impact everyday functioning for mothers, and the relationship with, and development of, their children. The purpose of this study was to understand the trajectories of nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) and suicide plans (SP) in the 90 days prior to inpatient hospitalization, understand the role of NSSI and SP in predicting suicide attempts (SA) on a given day, and to test the interaction between NSSI and SP in predicting same-day SA. Participants included 69 adolescents (77% female, 65% white, 77% Non-Hispanic/Latinx, Mage = 15.77 SDage = 1.00) from an inpatient psychiatric unit. Modern technological environments integrate multiple devices, competing for limited attentional resources of users. This study aimed to validate the auditory stimuli used in Horrey et al. (2017) with a college student population and examine the psychological structure of task engagement. Thirty-nine students listened to thirty-nine auditory stimuli used in Horrey et al. (2017) for their level of engagement. Participants rated how interesting they found the material on a slider from -7 (boring) to 7 (interesting) while listening to each clip. Purpose

Appetite for palatable foods may impact eating-related behaviors in everyday life. The present study evaluated the real-world predictive validity of the Power of Food Scale (PFS) using ecological momentary assessment (EMA).

Methods

30 women who reported binge eating completed the PFS and related measures. Subsequently, during a 14-day assessment period, participants completed five daily EMA surveys of appetite and binge eating via text message and web.

Results of generalized estimating equations showed that higher PFS scores were associated with higher momentary levels of hunger, eagerness to eat, and urge to eat but were unrelated to fullness, preoccupation with …

We develop new high-frequency-based inference procedures for analyzing the relationship between jumps in instantaneous moments of stochastic processes. The estimation consists of two steps: the nonparametric determination of the jumps as differences in local averages, followed by a minimum-distance type estimation of the parameters of interest under general loss functions that include both least-square and more robust quantile regressions as special cases. The resulting asymptotic distribution of the estimator, derived under an infill asymptotic setting, is highly nonstandard and generally not mixed normal. This study explores children’s encoding of novel verbs referring to motion events, and finds influence of both language-specific and universal constraints on meaning. Motion verbs fall into two categories—manner verbs encode how a movement happens (run, swim), and path verbs encode the starting and ending point of a motion (enter, fall). Some languages express path more frequently in the verb (Spanish, Hebrew), and others manner more frequently (English, German). Alexithymia is a personality trait characterised by difficulties identifying feelings (DIF), describing feelings (DDF), and externally oriented thinking (EOT). Alexithymia has been associated with poorer memory, at least for emotive materials, and recently, with executive and neural dysfunction. Aging is also accompanied by poorer memory and executive functioning (EF), neural dysfunction, and increasing alexithymia. Thus, the hypothesis of a general cognitive impairment in alexithymia, particularly in elders, needs investigation. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the impact a Teacher Librarian has on students’ self-selection strategies and the broader impact on a culture of reading in a school building. Data was collected from 263 students in middle school (grades 5-8) resulting in 1322 reponses over eight weeks. Research Question 1 asked, What appeal strategies do students use when selecting an independent reading book? “You liked the author or it is in a series” was the number one book selection approach used with 21.6% of the responses indicating this approach when selecting a book.
