The Role Of Self-Talk In Regulating Public Speaking Anxiety In Ethnically Diverse Young Adults In Canada, Clare Denise Russell Hinch
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Public speaking is a commonly required skill within academic and workplace settings, and the ability to confidently and effectively communicate orally in group contexts is highly valued. However, public speaking is uncomfortable for many individuals, often associated with behavioural, cognitive, and physiological manifestations of anxiety. This discomfort may be even greater in individuals who are required to speak in a language in which they do not feel adequately proficient. Given the importance of oral communication skills within academic, workplace, and community settings, it is imperative that individuals are able to effectively regulate this anxiety response. One way in which an …
Ageism By A Community Sample Of Young Adults: Expanding The Contact Hypothesis To Explore Ageism, Helena Lucia Swanson
Ageism By A Community Sample Of Young Adults: Expanding The Contact Hypothesis To Explore Ageism, Helena Lucia Swanson
College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations
Aging demographics globally are changing rapidly, resulting in the category of “older adults” (65 years and older) growing to eventually become the largest age demographic (United Nations, 2022). As our world gets older, ageism is a growing concern given its health, societal, cultural, and political consequences (Chrisler et al., 2016; Bugental & Hehman, 2007; Levy et al., 2020). Following Allport’s Contact Hypothesis (1954), this dissertation empirically analyzed predictors of ageism, including contact with older adults, for younger adults (18-26 years old) residing in U.S. communities. Participants were recruited using Prolific Academic, an online crowdsourcing platform and responded to five scales …

Access To Qualitative Inquiry: An Internal Dialogue, James A. Bernauer
Access To Qualitative Inquiry: An Internal Dialogue, James A. Bernauer
The Qualitative Report
Based on the theme of the TQR 15th Annual Conference – “Qualitative Inquiry; Access Denied?” this article introspectively examines through a self-interview what I have learned and experienced and my “evolution” in relation to qualitative inquiry. My journey began firmly in the quantitative/rationalistic camp, and I now find myself midway between this camp and the qualitative/naturalistic camp. Is this an integrated space that provides a home to practice mixed methods and a more natural and authentic way to go about discovery and learning?

And what are the contributions of private schools and paid tuition in creating inequality in learning achievement?
Inflation, Monetary Policy, And The Sacrifice Ratio, Leef H. Dierks
Inflation, Monetary Policy, And The Sacrifice Ratio, Leef H. Dierks
CBER Conference
Motivated by the 2022 uptick in headline inflation and the marked shift towards globally more restrictive monetary policies, this paper examines the sacrifice ratio, i.e., the percentage cost of actual production lost to every one percentage point decrease in (trend) inflation, for selected Southeast Asian economies. Results indicate that upon adopting a contractive monetary policy, GDP growth dropped by up to 0.5 per cent, confirming that monetary authorities’ disinflationary policies typically trigger declines in both output and employment. However, as even minor adjustments to the way of determining the sacrifice ratio lead to varying results, caution ought to be applied …

Computational Calculation Of Sovereign Default Probabilities: Pakistan's Case, Salman Zaffar
CBER Conference
This paper uses Black-Scholes-Merton model to quantitatively assess sovereign debt sustainability of Pakistan. Both the International Monetary Fund and Asian Development Bank have separately proposed applying Black Scholes-Merton model to calculate the sovereign default risk. Historically, the Black-Scholes Merton Model has been used to analyze corporate default risk. Both the sovereign and corporate default risk calculation are based on contingent claims approach which calculates risk by reading the sovereign and corporate balance sheets, respectively. Thus, in light of the proposition by these two financial bodies this paper calculates the default probability of Pakistan in 2001-2022. As the efficacy, it is …

Evaluating The Impact Of Withdrawal Of Telegraphic Transfer (Tt) Charges Reimbursement On The Remittances From The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia (Ksa), Muhammad Omer
CBER Conference
This paper attempted to estimate the impact of withdrawal of TTC reimbursement on remittances inflowing from the KSA into Pakistan. For this purpose, we have used difference in difference (DID) technique on data from July 2018 to September 2022. Our estimates suggest that this policy led to a decline in the remittances inflows from KSA on average between US$ 31 million to US$ 76 million in each month. From policy perspective, Government of Pakistan needs to review this policy of reimbursement on remittances inflowing from KSA. Our results appears robust to various changes in estimation framework.

Multicultural Counseling Course Instructors’ Cultural Background And Diversity Teaching Approaches, Cameka Hazel
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
Abstract
The success of any multicultural counseling course hinges upon the cultural competence of the course instructor. Research indicates that cultural competence is developed through personal experiences with diversity; however, little is known about how these experiences are translated into teaching practice. In this qualitative study, the researcher used a phenomenological inquiry to explore how instructors’ experiences with diversity influence how they teach multicultural counseling. The main thematic finding indicates that the cultural diversity background of the counselor educators shapes the way they teach. The two subthemes also reveal that some instructors teach diversity topics from a place of familiarity …

Normative Does Not Mean Inclusive: A Diverse Approach To Size In Cmhc Training, Courtney Boggs, Melinda Rule, Kassie R. Terrell, Madison Brantley, Hanadi Hamadi, Jenifer M. Ross
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
The medicalized model of weight and weight loss upholds a Weight Normative Approach which assumes that: (a) weight and disease are positively and causally related, (b) weight loss correlates to better health, (c) bodyweight is controllable, and (d) significant weight loss is possible and sustainable. This approach contributes to harmful societal standards that increase prejudice against fat people. This study examined counselor educators’ (n=88) training, values, and implementation of size and fat phobia-related content in their CACREP-accredited counseling courses. Results indicated that many participants include size and sizeism in their courses; however, participants also reported agreement with tenants of Weight …

Promoting Library Cultures: The Roles Of Libraries In Human Resources Development In Bangladesh, Md. Aktarul Islam, Md. Habibur Rahman
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Since the library is the paramount destination for obtaining knowledge and information, it has been a matter of great regret that the culture of pursuing lifelong learning programs through libraries remains unstressed and unfamiliar in Bangladesh. People from all walks of life have not felt the necessity of going to libraries to seek information and obtain knowledge to solve their day-to-day affairs and resolve other problematic issues. The tradition of reading, learning, and researching is still in a deplorable state, and to this end, the development and expansion of “Library Culture” is too slow to fulfill the information needs of …

Interest in equine-assisted learning (EAL) has grown rapidly among behavioral health professionals. The available research on the effects of EAL are limited, sparse, and mostly exploratory in nature. In this feasibility study, we evaluated the effectiveness of an EAL intervention, the Just Ask Yourself to Care (JAYC) program, for youth with disabilities. The eight-week JAYC curriculum is psycho-educational, strength-based, and resiliency-focused. We hypothesized that participation in the JAYC program would lead to improvement in social skills, empathy, and self-confidence.
Children with disabilities (n = 25) at two sites participated in a feasibility study of implementation and evaluation procedures. Before and …
