"The analytical expressions for the transport coefficients (i.e. viscosity, thermal conductivity, and diffusivity) of an ideal gas can be derived from the kinetic theory of gases. It is also possible to make these analytical expressions adequate for real gases if the intermolecular forces of attraction and repulsion for these gases have been taken into consideration.

The intermolecular forces have been studied by many investigators. The Lennard-Jones potential is one of the most realistic semi-empirical statements which represents particularly the intermolecular forces of attraction and repulsion for non-polar gases.

"The purpose of this investigation was to determine the unusually complex geology of a little-known area south of the Eldorado mining district, southern Clark County, Nevada. The area, mapped at a scale of 1:24000, comprises a segment of the northerly-trending Eldorado mountains in the southeast corner of the Great Basin. This rugged desert area is on a drainage divide between the Great Basin and the Colorado River. The rocks of the area consist of Precambrian gneisses and schists invaded by successive generations of Upper Cretaceous (?) - Tertiary igneous rocks. The older rocks, mainly biotite-chlorite gneisses, have resulted from high-grade …

Southern Logan County, North Dakota, was glaciated at least three different times during the Pleistocene epoch. Scattered patches of highly weathered iron-cemented drift found in the area of eroded Cretaceous bedrock in southwest-era Logan County are very possibly pre-Wisconsinan in age. Two younger drift sheets of Wisconsinan age cover the remaining portion of the county. One of these drifts, the Napoleon drift, is probably early Wisconsinan, and the other, the Burnstad-Streeter drift, is likely late Wisconsinan in age.

The Pauli-Weisskopf theory of electromagnetic production of pion pairs has been a subject of interest in various connections for many years. Recently new interest has been stimulated in the theory because pion pair production is a possible means of investigating the - interaction. This approach, which was originally suggested by Pomeranchuk, is particularly valid in view of the increase in the cross section, when the strong pion-nucleus interaction is included, over that obtained by the original theory. A torus is the topological product of two circles, while a solid torus is the topological product of a circle and a disk. Two solid tori B1 and B2 in the three-sphere S^3, with B2 interior to B1, are said to be concentric if and only if the closure of B1-B2 (the set of points in B1 but not in B2) is homeomorphic to the topological product of a torus and a closed interval. Two tori in S^3 are concentric if and only if they are respectively the boundaries of two concentric solid tori.

The problem that will be considered here will be the flow in a cylinder filled with a homogeneous ideal gas, bounded on one end by a vacuum and/or a rigid wall with the motion initiated by a piston on the other end. First, the basic Lagrangian differential equations will be derived along with other necessary thermodynamical relations.
