Arretotherium Fricki, A New Miocene Anthracothere From Nebraska, J. R. Macdonald, C. Bertrand Schultz Jan 1956

Arretotherium Fricki, A New Miocene Anthracothere From Nebraska, J. R. Macdonald, C. Bertrand Schultz

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum

A new species of middle Miocene (early Hemingfordian) anthraco-there, Arretotherium fricki Macdonald and Schultz is described based on a cranium from the upper Marsland deposits of Nebraska. The holotype suggests that this genus was derived from the Oligocene genus Elomeryx Marsh.

Chelation Of The Transition Metal Ions With A Series Of Polyhodrozyamine Compounds, William Percy Moore Jan 1956

Chelation Of The Transition Metal Ions With A Series Of Polyhodrozyamine Compounds, William Percy Moore

Master's Theses

Chelation was reviewed with emphasis on the work done by contemporary workers.

The following polyhydroxyamine compounds were synthesized, purified and· analyzed:

1,2-bis[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino]ethane dihydrochloride

1,3-b1s[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino]propane dihydrochloride

1,3-b1s[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino]-2-propanone dihydrochloride

1,2,3-tris[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino)propane tri hydrochloride

The latter two compounds have not been reported in the literature.

Chelates were prepared by reacting the above compounds, and 1-3bis[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino]-2-propanol dihydrochloride ("disec") and the "disec" free base, with the ions of the first transition metals. Stability constants were obtained where appreciable coordination occurred before precipitation of the metallic ion took place . A list of the metal ions studied with one or more chelating agents follows: Cu+2, …

This weather journal describes the temperature and daily weather observations written by Maurice Michaud who lived in Van Buren, Maine. The author also included events and feelings about the day. Looking through these journals you will also find loose receipts and towns he visited, many located in Northern Maine.

Some Remarks About Elementary Divisor Rings, Leonard Gillman, Melvin Henriksen Jan 1956

Some Remarks About Elementary Divisor Rings, Leonard Gillman, Melvin Henriksen

All HMC Faculty Publications and Research

By a slight modification of Kaplansky's argument, we find that the condition on zero-divisors can be replaced by the hypothesis that S be an Hermite ring (i.e., every matrix over S can be reduced to triangular form). This is an improvement, since, in any case, it is necessary that S be an Hermite ring, while, on the other hand, it is not necessary that all zero-divisors be in the radical. In fact, we show that every regular commutative ring with identity is adequate. However, the condition that S be adequate is not necessary either.

We succeed in obtaining a necessary …

Rings Of Continuous Functions In Which Every Finitely Generated Ideal Is Principal, Leonard Gillman, Melvin Henriksen Jan 1956

Rings Of Continuous Functions In Which Every Finitely Generated Ideal Is Principal, Leonard Gillman, Melvin Henriksen

All HMC Faculty Publications and Research

The outline of our present paper is as follows. In §1, we collect some preliminary definitions and results. §2 inaugurates the study of F-rings and F-spaces (i.e., those spaces X for which C(X) is an F-ring).

The space of reals is not an F-space; in fact, a metric space is an F-space if and only if it is discrete. On the other hand, if X is any locally compact, σ-compact space (e.g., the reals), then βX-X is an F-space. Examples of necessary and sufficient conditions for an arbitrary completely regular space to be an F-space are:

(i) for every f …

Flight Path Of Least Time, Robert Katz Jan 1956

Flight Path Of Least Time, Robert Katz

Robert Katz Publications

A problem which one might assume to be of considerable practical interest, but certainly a problem to arouse the curiosity of the undergraduate student, is the problem of determining the most economical flight path of an airplane in the presence of known winds. In general one must assume that the wind system between source and destination is a complex one involving circulation about several centers with winds of variable speed and direction. The geodesic between source and destination is clearly not the flight path of least time in the presence of winds, nor is a cursory examination of a weather …

Ostracoda Of The Silurian Decker And Manlius Limestones In New Jersey And Eastern New York, Frank M. Swartz, Frank C. Whitmore Jr. Jan 1956

Ostracoda Of The Silurian Decker And Manlius Limestones In New Jersey And Eastern New York, Frank M. Swartz, Frank C. Whitmore Jr.

United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications

Descriptions and illustrations are given for 44 ostracode species of the Decker, Rondout and Manlius limestones of the William Nearpass quarries and Dalton Nearpass farm in northwestern New Jersey, and at Austin's Glen and Trilobite Mountain in New York. One brachiopod variety is proposed. The ostracode species are distributed through 11 families and 23 genera. Thirty-two species and one variety are new, and there are eight new genera. Holotype or syntype specimens of 13 of Weller's ostracode species have been restudied and are refigured and redescribed. Stratigraphic sections are described to provide details of the ostracode occurrences, and zonal potentialities …

The Effects Of Structural Changes On The Formation Of Urea Adducts Of Esters, Gerard Vinton Smith Jan 1956

The Effects Of Structural Changes On The Formation Of Urea Adducts Of Esters, Gerard Vinton Smith

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

An unexpected discovery in 1940 revealed that urea has the peculiar property to form crystalline adducts with many straight chain organic compounds. Since the discovery, considerable time and money have been spent on the elucidation of this phenomenon, and the field of urea adducts has now advanced to the stage at which many empirical rules have been observed but, unfortunately, no sound theory has been formulated.

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect, if any, of changes in structure upon the amount of urea required to adduct with esters. The change in structure consisted of changing the …

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT: John Deere 620/630

TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear.

This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker ,point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.

Test 574: International 300 Utility Lpg, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

This report and any related files are made available to the online through the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum as resources allow. Established in 1998, this museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus. It is and appropriately housed within the walls of the historic 1920 Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory, where the first tractor test was started on March 31st, 1920. Because the pioneer tests became worldwide standards, this location was designated as a Historic Landmark of Agricultural Engineering by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in 1980, shortly after testing was moved to a …
