In this study, the design, fabrication, and characterization results of square and circular cross-sectioned, bimaterial microelectromechanical system (MEMS) membranes are presented. The MEMS structures, having width of 250 $\mu $m to 1.5 mm and 1-4 mm$^{2}$ die area, were designed towards integration on a single-mode fiber tip for temperature-sensing. Embedded diffraction grating underneath each membrane allows for interferometric detection of thermomechanical response through backside laser illumination. The displacement of MEMS membranes was monitored under direct heating, revealing 50--1800 nm/$^{\circ}$C thermomechanical sensitivity range. Furthermore, atomic force microscopy-based stiffness measurement on the MEMS membranes revealed a spring constant within 2--30 N/m range. …

A Marching Algorithm For Isosurface Extraction From Face-Centered Cubic Lattices, Yusuf Sahi̇lli̇oğlu Jan 2017

A Marching Algorithm For Isosurface Extraction From Face-Centered Cubic Lattices, Yusuf Sahi̇lli̇oğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This work provides a novel method that extracts isosurfaces from face-centered cubic (FCC) lattices. It has been theoretically shown that sampling volumetric data on an FCC lattice tiled with rhombic dodecahedra is more efficient than sampling them on a Cartesian lattice tiled with cubes, in that the FCC lattice can represent the same data set as a Cartesian lattice with the same accuracy, yet with approximately 23% fewer samples. This fact, coupled with the good properties of rhombic dodecahedra, encouraged us to develop this related isosurface extraction technique. Thanks to the sparser sampling required by the FCC lattices, the de …

Intelligent Reorganized Discrete Cosine Transform For Reduced Reference Image Quality Assessment, Tariq Bashir, Imran Usman, Shahnawaz Khan, Junaid Ur Rehman

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Reduced reference image quality assessment does not require the presence of the original image for assessing the quality of a degraded image. This work proposes an intelligent method for reduced reference image quality assessment based on a reorganized discrete cosine transform (RDCT). A genetic algorithm (GA) is used to compute optimized estimation of the generalized Gaussian distribution (GGD), which then approximates the coefficient distribution in the RDCT domain. Experimental results validate that such an intelligent estimation produces far superior results compared to conventional empirical estimation methods as presented in the literature. We compare the proposed technique with a number of …

Two-Group Decodable Distributed Differential Space-Time Code For Wireless Relay Networks Based On Sast Codes, Obada Abdallah, Ammar Abu Hudrouss

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Space-time code can be implemented in wireless relay networks when all relays cooperate to generate the code at the receiver. In this case, it is called distributed space-time code. If the channel response changes very quickly, the idea of differential space-time coding is needed to overcome the difficulty of updating the channel state information at the receiver. As a result, the transmitted signal can be demodulated without any knowledge of the channel state information at the relays or the receiver. In this paper, development of new low decoding complexity distributed differential space-time codes is considered. The developed codes are designed …
