Spectroscopic Investigation And Oxidation Of The Anticholinergic Drug Atropine Sulfate Monohydrate By Hexacyanoferrate(Iii) In Aqueous Alkaline Media: A Mechanistic Approach, Manjunath Meti, Sharanappa Nandibewoor, Shivamurti Chimatadar

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The oxidation of the anticholinergic drug atropine sulfate monohydrate by hexacyanoferrate(III) in aqueous alkaline media was investigated spectrophotometrically by monitoring the decrease in absorbance of hexacyanoferrate(III) (HCF(III)). Oxidation products were identified. The oxidation mechanism was proposed from kinetic studies. The reaction constants involved in the different steps of the mechanism were calculated. The effects of added products, ionic strength, and dielectric constant of the reaction were investigated. The polymerization test revealed that oxidation occurred with intervention of free radicals. The activation parameters were evaluated.

A new magnetically separable catalyst consisting of binuclear Mn(II) complex [Mn_2(HL)_2(H_2O)_4], HL = 2-[(2-hydroxy-benzylidene)-amino]-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionic acid, supported on (3-chloropropyl)-trimethoxysilane (CPTMS) functionalized silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) was prepared. The synthesized catalyst was characterized by several physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. This immobilized complex was found to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the oxidation of different sulfides and hydrocarbons using hydrogen peroxide (H_2O_2) as an oxidant. The catalyst is readily recovered by simple magnetic decantation and can be recycled several times with no considerable loss of catalytic activity.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Three new polysubstituted isoindole-1,3-diones were prepared from 2-ethyl-5-hydroxy-3a,4,5,7a-tetrahydro-isoindole-1,3-dione. The reaction of 2-ethyl-5-hydroxy-3a,4,5,7a-tetrahydro-isoindole-1,3-dione with m-CPBA gave the corresponding epoxide. The triacetate derivative was obtained via cis-hydroxylation using OsO_4, followed by acetylation. An aromatic derivative, a secondary reaction product, was also formed during the acetylation. Finally, a tricyclic derivative from 2-ethyl-5-hydroxy-3a,4,5,7a-tetrahydro-isoindole-1,3-dione was synthesized via dichloroketene addition under microwave irradiation. The exact structures of epoxide and tricyclic derivatives were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Performance Degradation Of Li_Xfepo_4 (X = 0, 1) Induced By Postannealing, Xiaofei Sun, Youlong Xu, Xiaoyu Zheng, Xiangfei Meng, Rui Zhang

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Olivine LiFePO_4 has been studied for more than a decade as a promising cathode material for rechargeable lithium batteries. However, the low electric conductivity and tap density still hinder its large-scale commercialization. Micro-sized LiFePO_4 is prepared by an optimized hydrothermal method in this paper. The influence of postannealing on the physicochemical properties of LiFePO_4 and FePO_4 is investigated to understand the plausible mechanism for performance degradation. It is found that postannealing even chemical delithiation greatly affects the particle size, morphology, pore distribution, surface area, and probably the lattice strain of Li_xFePO_4 (x = 0, 1). Consequently, the electrochemical performances of …

Quaternary Travertine Ridges In The Lake Urmia Area: Active Extension In Nw Iran, Mohammad Mohajjel, Karim Taghipour Jan 2014

Quaternary Travertine Ridges In The Lake Urmia Area: Active Extension In Nw Iran, Mohammad Mohajjel, Karim Taghipour

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Lake Urmia area is surrounded by several major active oblique-slip faults with dextral and normal offsets. Extensive travertine ridges were produced along the E-W up to NW-SE trending extension fractures in the Lake Urmia area, NW Iran. These fractures are parallel to subparallel with abundant normal faults. Pliocene-Quaternary volcanic domes occur in the area and their activities tend toward apparent distinction between colored travertine layers and ridges. Two different modes of banded travertine within the fissures and layered travertine on the surface are observed. Some banded travertines are not vertical and obviously were tilted. Layered travertines were cut, rotated, …

Neotectonics Of The Zanjan-Kazvin Area, Central Iran: Left Lateral Strike‐Slip Induced Restraining Stepovers, Moosarreza Toori, Gürol Seyi̇toğlu

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The neotectonics of the Zanjan-Kazvin area are dominated by the region-wide E-W trending left lateral strike-slip faults. These faults create restraining and releasing stepovers indicating strain partitioning. Instead of the NW-SE trending long range-parallel continuous thrust faulting suggested in previous studies, this paper demonstrates that there are E-W trending range-crossing left lateral strike-slip faults creating short range-parallel thrust faults in the restraining stepovers. Establishing this strike-slip-induced structural style might contribute to an understanding of the nature of the Elburz (Alborz) Mountains located between the Central Iran and Caspian blocks.

Evidence That Photons Have Extension In Space, Randy Wayne Jan 2014

Evidence That Photons Have Extension In Space, Randy Wayne

Turkish Journal of Physics

Satyendra Nath Bose realized that there was a logical inconsistency in the derivation of Planck's radiation law since the derivation used to obtain the temperature-independent prefactor in the blackbody radiation law had been based in part on classical wave hypotheses, such as the number of degrees of freedom of the ether. Bose worked out a strictly quantum derivation by combining the quantum hypothesis with statistical mechanics to determine the number of states of each mode that would occupy a 6-dimensional phase space. Here I use the model of an extended photon to show that the temperature-independent prefactor of Planck's radiation …

Soret And Dufour Effects On An Mhd Free Convective Flow Through A Channel Bounded By A Long Wavy Wall And A Parallel Flat Wall, Nazibuddin Ahmed, Kalpana Sarma, Hiren Deka

Turkish Journal of Physics

This paper presents Soret and Dufour effects on a 2-dimensional free convective magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a viscous incompressible and electrically conducting fluid through a channel bounded by a long vertical wavy wall and a parallel flat wall. A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied perpendicular to the flat wall. Governing equations of the fluid flow and heat and mass transfer are solved analytically subject to the relevant boundary conditions. It is assumed that the solution consists of 2 parts, a mean part and a perturbed part. The long wave approximation has been used to obtain the solution …

Effect Of Gain Saturation On The Nonlinear Dynamical Behavior Of Optically Injected Semiconductor Lasers, Furat Ahmad Al-Saymari, Imad Al-Deen Hussein Al-Saidi, May Jassim Ashoor

Turkish Journal of Physics

We studied numerically the dynamics and bifurcations route to chaos of an optically injected semiconductor laser. The sequence of bifurcations mainly followed the period-doubling scenario. Observations of different kinds of injected semiconductor laser dynamical behaviors including stable state, periodic oscillation state, quasi-periodic oscillation state, co-existence of periodic and chaotic states, and period-3 and period-6 oscillation states are reported. The existence of isolated branches created from a sudden jump in the dynamics of the semiconductor laser was also observed in the bifurcation diagram. In order to draw a detailed picture for the dynamical behavior of the semiconductor laser, we constructed color …

Octonion Symmetric Dirac-Maxwell Equations, Bhupesh Chandra Chanyal Jan 2014

Octonion Symmetric Dirac-Maxwell Equations, Bhupesh Chandra Chanyal

Turkish Journal of Physics

We know that the octonion algebra is the largest division algebra. Therefore, we have discussed the octonion 8-dimensional space as the combination of 2 (external and internal) 4-dimensional spaces. The octonion wave equations in terms of 8 components has been written in terms of an 8 x 8 matrix. Octonion forms of potential as well as fields equations of dyons in terms of an 8 x 8 matrix are discussed in a consistent manner. At last, we have obtained the generalized Dirac-Maxwell equations of dyons in two 4-dimensional spaces, from the 8 x 8 matrix representation of octonion wave equations. …

Incidence Angle And Spectral Effects On Vertical Junction Silicon Solar Cell Capacitance, Moustapha Sane, Gökhan Şahi̇n, Fabe Idrissa Barro, Amadou Seidou Maiga

Turkish Journal of Physics

The aim of this work is to present a theoretical study of a vertical junction silicon solar cell under monochromatic illumination. By solving the continuity equation and using a one-dimensional model in frequency modulation, we derive the analytical expressions of both excess minority carrier density and photovoltage. Based on these expressions, the solar cell capacitance was calculated; we then exhibited the effects of both illumination wavelength and incidence angle on the solar cell capacitance.

Neutron-Rich ^{208}Pb Nucleus With Delta Excitation Under Compression, Mohammed Hassen Eid Abu-Sei'leek

Turkish Journal of Physics

The spherical Hartree-Fock approximation is applied to a no-core shell model with a realistic effective baryon-baryon interaction. The ground state properties of a heavy spherical neutron-rich doubly magic ^{208}Pb nucleus under compression are investigated. It is found that the nucleus becomes more bound with the occurrence of Delta resonances. The creation of Delta increases as the compression is continuous. There is a considerable reduction in the compressibility when the Delta degree of freedom is activated. It is found that the Delta particle is the basic component of the ^{208}Pb nucleus besides nucleons at the ground state without any compression. When …

Uv-Vis And Xrd Investigation Of Graphite-Doped Poly(Acrylic) Acid Membranes, Mihai Todica, Traian Stefan, Simion Simon, Istvan Balasz, Liviu Daraban

Turkish Journal of Physics

Possible modification of the structure of poly(acrylic) acid (PAA) membranes doped with graphite was investigated by UV-Vis and XRD techniques. The pure PAA membranes were characterized by good transparency in the domain 250-700 nm, with maximum absorption at 207 nm. The absorbance of membranes increased significantly after doping with graphite. The XRD patterns of pure membranes showed a low degree of order of the polymeric matrix. Some modifications of the parameters of the ordered domains of the polymer and of the graphite appeared at high concentrations of the dopant.

Morphology And Crystallinity Control Of Wet Chemically Grown Zno Nanorods, Janos Volk, Róbert Erdélyi

Turkish Journal of Physics

The controlled growth of ZnO nanorods on technologically relevant substrates is essential for their practical integration into next generation optoelectronic and piezoelectric devices. In this report, highly ordered and uniform vertical ZnO nanorod arrays were synthesized using a facile, low temperature selective area wet chemical growth process. The nanorods were grown through nucleation windows that were patterned in a PMMA mask using electron beam lithography. At first, the technique was demonstrated on `ideal' ZnO single crystal substrates, where the geometrical parameters of the highly uniform and crystallographically coherent nanorods were dictated by the nucleation pattern, the polarity of the substrate, …
