Chromite Deposits Near Red Lodge And Silver Star, Montana, Edmond F. Smigel
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The Red Lodge and Silver Star chromite deposits of Montana have stimulated much interest during periods of war. The Red Lodge deposit is 25 miles southwest of Red Lodge which is also the nearest railroad point. Several workings are scattered throughout the area, exposing lense-like ore bodies averaging 33% chrome oxide. Silver Star is a much smaller deposit 5 miles west of Silver Star, Montana, which is its nearest railroad point. Lenses of chromite are exposed by pits and trenches, which average approximately 36% chromic oxide.

The Substance In Yeast Which Stimulates Gastric Secretion, C. F. Hoffman Jr.
The Substance In Yeast Which Stimulates Gastric Secretion, C. F. Hoffman Jr.
Masters Theses
A number of substances are known which stimulate gastric secretion either when introduced into the lumen of the stomach or intestine, or when injected intravenously or intramuscularly. Among substances that have been tested experimentally by direct introduction into the stomach and have been found active as stimulating agents are beta-alanine, histamine, adrenaline, and peptone (1).
Substances which affect gastric secretion following their intramuscular or intravenous injection act through a humoral mechanism. Among compounds which have been tested for such effect are: Histidine. This has no effect on gastric secretion (2). Choline. Intravenously it weakly stimulates volume and acid (3). Lacithin. …

A Study Of The Electrolytic Reduction Of Pyrrole, Don Richard Strehlau
A Study Of The Electrolytic Reduction Of Pyrrole, Don Richard Strehlau
Masters Theses
"A review of the chemical literature has shown that electro-organic methods compare favorably with purely chemical methods for certain syntheses belonging to the following general classes of reactions: coupling, oxidation, reactions with halogens, and reductions. Electro-organic methods have been used most successfully in synthesis by reduction. The chief advantage is using electrolytic reduction in preference to a chemical one is that it offers a more exact control of conditions, and consequently should give a higher yield and a purer product. The advantages of the means of reduction suggested an investigation of its use in the synthesis of hydrogenated products of …
The Magnesium Content Of The Rocks Of The Upper Cretaceous System Of Ellis And Osborne Counties, Kansas, Robert Funston
The Magnesium Content Of The Rocks Of The Upper Cretaceous System Of Ellis And Osborne Counties, Kansas, Robert Funston
Master's Theses
The recent impetus given industry by the national defense emergency has made everyone more or less conscious of the great importance of minerals. During the past few years some of the industrial leaders of Kansas have been attempting to promote the natural resources of the state. Some minerals once considered of little or no value are now being developed. For many years the limestone rocks of Western Kansas have been used for building purposes. Until recently little work has been done on the chemical composition of these rocks. The author has decided to continue the study by analyzing the rocks …
Studies Arising From A Problem In The Calculus Of Variations, John Gonzalez
Studies Arising From A Problem In The Calculus Of Variations, John Gonzalez
Mathematics & Statistics ETDs
In mathematics, generalization is progress; so much so that oftentimes one loses sight of the fact that generalization is the result of arduous work in the consideration of the particular. In no other branch of mathematics is this better exemplified than in the Calculus of Variations. The beginning of a systematic development of the theory of the Calculus of Variations really started with the two Bernoulli brothers (1654-1748) in their discussion of the brachistochrone problem in 1696. The method devised by them were sufficiently powerful in the attack of a large number of problems. Euler (1707-85) further elaborated the geometrical …
The Conversion Of Certain Amino Acids To Carbohydrate In Normal Animals, Bergere Alfred Kenney
The Conversion Of Certain Amino Acids To Carbohydrate In Normal Animals, Bergere Alfred Kenney
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
The glycogenic effects of the individual amino acids, in the metabolism of normal animals, are by no means well defined. IN some cases, as in those of alanine and glutamic acid, the tendency of the acid to form glucose is generally accepted; in others, of which leucine and lysine are good examples, there is definitely no glucose formation; in still other cases, namely those of glycine and cystine, the contradictory nature of the results obtained by different investigators gives anything but a clear picture of the situation...
It is the purpose of this paper, therefore, to attempt such an estimation …
The Preparation Of Chlorobromo Dinitromethane And Its Reaction With Liquid Ammonia, Edward N. Case
The Preparation Of Chlorobromo Dinitromethane And Its Reaction With Liquid Ammonia, Edward N. Case
Honors Theses
The nitro-alkyls have been recorded in the literature for many years. The preparation of the lowest completely nitrated hydrocarbon, tetranitromethane, from acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and fuming nitric acid, has been described by Berger. (1) On reaction with liquid ammonia it forms a salt of nitroform (2). Nitroform can be converted into tetranitromethane by dissolving in a heated mixture of fuming nitric and concentrated sulfuric acids (4). The potassium salt of dinitromethane has been prepared by Villiers (3). This method for the formation of chlorobromo dinitromethane was the one used in this work.
Investigation Of The Etching Patterns Of Silicic Acid Gels, Stephen H. Laning
Investigation Of The Etching Patterns Of Silicic Acid Gels, Stephen H. Laning
Honors Theses
It was found that dissolving silicic acid gels on glass surfaces with strong sodium hydroxide, peculiar etching patterns were formed before the gel dissolved.
