Clustering-Based High Trend Identification In Dataset, Dr. Muhammad Zubair Asghar, Dr. Auranzeb Khan, Fazal Masud Kundi, Nafees Ur Rehman

Clustering data into meaningful groups has a vast scope of research in several fields, like: statistics, information theory, machine learning, databases, and bioinformatics. This paper presents the modified form of K-means clustering algorithm called T-means. This algorithm creates, sorted clusters and labels as "high trend" and "low trend". Then M cases are selected from the high trend cluster (HTC) to construct the final HTC. The algorithm was tested on real univariate data of student's marks. Experimental results show that T-means can be efficiently used to construct the sorted cluster of significant cases in data set. T-means will help to identify …

Cognitive And Behavioral Model Ensembles For Autonomous Virtual Characters, Jeffrey S. Whiting
Cognitive And Behavioral Model Ensembles For Autonomous Virtual Characters, Jeffrey S. Whiting
Theses and Dissertations
Cognitive and behavioral models have become popular methods to create autonomous self-animating characters. Creating these models presents the following challenges: (1) Creating a cognitive or behavioral model is a time intensive and complex process that must be done by an expert programmer (2) The models are created to solve a specific problem in a given environment and because of their specific nature cannot be easily reused. Combining existing models together would allow an animator, without the need of a programmer, to create new characters in less time and would be able to leverage each model's strengths to increase the character's …

Description Of Harmonic Generation In Terms Of The Complex Quasienergy. I. General Formulation, M.V. Frolov, A.V. Flegel, N. L. Manakov, Anthony F. Starace

Using the Hellmann-Feynman theorem for quasistationary quasienergy states of a quantum system in an intense laser field, we present the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) amplitude in terms of the complex quasienergy of a bound electron, thereby avoiding the necessity for an explicit form for the electron wave function in HHG calculations. This formulation for the HHG amplitude confirms use of the dual dipole moment (instead of the dipole moment expectation value) in wave-function-based HHG calculations in order to properly account for both the ionization and the Stark shift of the initial bound state in a strong laser field.
Exact Relativistic Beta Decay Endpoint Spectrum, Joseph Schechter, S. S. Masood
Exact Relativistic Beta Decay Endpoint Spectrum, Joseph Schechter, S. S. Masood
Physics - All Scholarship
The exact relativistic form for the beta decay endpoint spectrum is derived and presented in a simple factorized form. We show that our exact formula can be well approximated to yield the endpoint form used in the fit method of the KATRIN collaboration. We also discuss the three neutrino case and how information from neutrino oscillation experiments may be useful in analyzing future beta decay endpoint experiments.

Density Functional Study Of Structural Trends For Late-Transition-Metal 13-Atom Clusters, Lin-Lin Wang, Duane D. Johnson
Density Functional Study Of Structural Trends For Late-Transition-Metal 13-Atom Clusters, Lin-Lin Wang, Duane D. Johnson
Duane D. Johnson
Because reactivity increases as particle size decreases and competition between numerous structures are possible, which affects catalytic and magnetic properties, we study the structural trends of late-transition-metal 13-atom clusters using density functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation to exchange-correlation functional. We consider open structural motifs, such as bilayer and cubic (recently found to have lower energy), and find new bilayer candidates that are even lower in energy. To study the influence of d-orbital filling on structural trends, we focus on Pt, Pd, and Rh clusters and find several new, low-energy structures for Pt13 and Pd13 from searches using a …

The Future of Natural Resources Law and Policy (Summer Conference, June 6-8)
The Natural Resources Law Center's 25th Anniversary Conference and Natural Resources Law Teachers 14th Biennial Institute provided an opportunity for some of the best natural resources lawyers to discuss future trends in the field. The conference focused on the larger, cross-cutting issues affecting natural resources policy. Initial discussions concerned the declining role of scientific resource management due to the increased inclusion of economic-cost benefit analysis and public participation in the decision-making process. The effectiveness of this approach was questioned particularly in the case of non-market goods such as the polar bear. Other participants promoted the importance of public participation and …
