The objective of this study is twofold: to approximate a model of a blimp, and to use this model to develop a setup to track a target with the blimp that is outfitted with a wireless camera and radio-controlled propellers. This article presents a powerful method to track any moving or stationary target with an unmanned aerial vehicle by combining the advantages of the proportional derivative (PD) controller, continuously adaptive mean shift (Camshift) algorithm, and pulse width modulation (PWM) method. This paper presents the performance characteristics of two induction motors of the same parameters and ratings connected in parallel and fed by a single inverter. A nature observer is employed to estimate the rotor speeds and rotor fluxes of both induction motors. It also estimates the load torques of both the motors by load torque adaptation. Under unbalanced load conditions, the speed difference between the two induction motors is reduced by considering the average and differential motor parameters and currents. In this paper, we propose that adaptation time be considered a parameter for evaluating the performance of digital filter algorithms in adaptive digital predistorted high-power amplifiers. An adaptive predistorted high-power amplifier with an average power of 37.5 dBm was designed and fabricated for mobile worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) test signals. For performance comparisons using adaptation time, several effective algorithms (such as the least-mean-squares (LMS), recursive-least-squares (RLS), and affine projection (AP) algorithms) were implemented. The stochastic scheduling of precedence-constrained jobs on a heterogeneous processor is a challenging problem that requires solutions with one or more optimized QoS parameters. In this work, an energy-aware stochastic algorithm is proposed to schedule the batch of precedence-constrained jobs on heterogeneous DVFS-enabled processors with the objective of optimizing turnaround time and energy consumption. The processing time of tasks in all jobs and their precedence-constraint times are governed by independent probability distributions. In this paper, the operation of a system and distance relay is improved during voltage instability by using an improved strategy. After detecting the voltage instability, the third zone is blocked. However, the system is prone to voltage collapse. Shunt capacitor compensation and a load shedding scheme can be used to protect the system from voltage collapse conditions. The optical and electrical properties of conventional and inverted type ultraviolet photodetectors (UVPDs) with active layers of poly(9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-ylenethynylene (PFE), $N$,$N'$-bis-$n$-butyl-1,4,5,8-naphthalenediimide (BNDI), and zincoxide (ZnO) are introduced. Optimized devices showed high photoresponse, external quantum efficiency (EQE), and detectivity (D*) values. Under 365 nm 1 mW/cm$^{2}$, the conventional device (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/[(PFE:BNDI) (3:1):8 wt% ZnO]/Al) and the inverted device (ITO/[(PFE:BNDI)(3:1):8 wt% ZnO]/Au) gave photoresponsivities of 515 mA/W and 316 mA/W, D* of 1.12 $\times$ 10$^{14 }$Jones and 0.71 $\times$ 10$^{14 }$Jones, and EQE of 174% and 107%, respectively. This paper proposes a new space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) algorithm for multilevel inverters that achieves a minimum number of switch state changes in one sampling cycle in order to reduce switching losses. The algorithm can be implemented with minimum computational burden and it does not require any look-up tables. This paper presents a novel framework for voltage control based on holonic architecture, with a priority action of local controllers. The proposed architecture is a hierarchical distributed structure in which two various information technology domains called the energy management system holon and flexible AC transmission system holon are defined. In the proposed structure, a dynamic reconfiguring method for holons is used to reduce the time of corrective actions in the case of emergencies.

"Single particle (SP)-ICP-MS methods were developed to characterize and quantify Ti-containing, titanium dioxide, silver, and gold NP concentration, size, size distribution and dissolved metal element concentration in surface water and treated drinking water. The effectiveness of conventional drinking water treatments (including lime softening, alum coagulation, filtration, and disinfection) to remove NPs from surface water was evaluated using six-gang stirrer jar test simulations. Six-gang stirrers were used to simulate drinking water treatments including lime softening, alum coagulation, powdered activated carbon sorption, filtration, and disinfection by free chlorine. "The Mantle Transition Zone (MTZ) beneath South America is investigated with stacking of Receiver Functions (RFs) of converted P-to-S phases from the velocity discontinuities at 410 km (d410) and 660 km (d660). A total of 785 seismic stations provided 22,235 high quality RFs, allowing 1,717 MTZ thickness measurements in circular bins of 2⁰ radius. An apparent MTZ structure is derived using the IASP91 reference model, where the d410 mean depth is 409.1 km and the d660 is 661.5 km, and the mean MTZ thickness is 251.8 km. "In a nuclear reactor design, every moving part in a system is considered a failure point. In this study, a proposal is made for designing a nuclear reactor that has no moving parts by coupling an accelerator driven core (removing control system moving parts) to a magnetohydrodynamic generator (removing power generation moving parts) using mercury coolant (removing pumping system moving parts). Further safety is realized by using a subcritical core, where the core is never able to sustain a chain reaction on its own, obviating many safety systems. "The offshore Nile Delta is characterized by variations of the maximum horizontal stress orientation in subsalt and supra-salt sequences. Margin-parallel SH, typical for tertiary deltas, is observed for regions that are below or do not contain evaporites. In sequences underlain by evaporates pre-dominantly margin-normal SH is observed. This observation yielded the first conclusive in situ evidence that salt acts as a mechanical detachment layer. "Through the analysis of both U-Pb and (U-Th)/He ages from detrital zircon grains we can constrain thermal histories by establishing ages which correspond to crystallization and exhumation events, respectively. This combined geo-/thermochronologic approach is used here to constrain the history of the polyphase Nacimiento fault. This fault traverses central and southern California and has accumulated at least 150 km of slip since Late Cretaceous time. "Numerous sandstone filled depressions hosted in upper Cambrian to Middle Ordovociain dolostones in south-central Missouri have historically been identified as Pennsylvanian paleokarst structures. U-Pb detrital zircon geochronology is at odds the time of formation and sedimentological evidence challenges their classification. "Filled sink" deposits yield primary zircon age populations of 2.8-2.6 Ga (~50% of all analyzed grains), 1.2-1.1 Ga (~25%), 1.8-1.6 Ga (~15%) and 1.5-1.3 Ga (~10%). These zircon populations most likely originated from the Superior Craton and Midcontinent Rift and/or Grenville orogen, respectively. The Warrensburg and Moberly channel-fill sandstones of central Missouri were identified as good candidates for Pennsylvanian aged …

This work is dedicated to constructing a multi-scale structural health monitoring system to monitor and evaluate the serviceability of bridges based on the Hadoop Ecosystem (MS-SHM-Hadoop). By taking the advantages of the fault-tolerant distributed file system called the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and high-performance parallel data processing engine called MapReduce programming paradigm, MS-SHM-Hadoop features include high scalability and robustness in data ingestion, fusion, processing, retrieval, and analytics. Motivation: Accurate segmentation of brain electron microscopy (EM) images is a critical step in dense circuit reconstruction. Although deep neural networks (DNNs) have been widely used in a number of applications in computer vision, most of these models that proved to be effective on image classification tasks cannot be applied directly to EM image segmentation, due to the different objectives of these tasks. As a result, it is desirable to develop an optimized architecture that uses the full power of DNNs and tailored specifically for EM image segmentation.
