Psychiatric hospitalizations could be reduced if mental illnesses were detected and treated earlier in the primary care setting, leading to the World Health Organization recommendation that mental health services be integrated into primary care. The mental health services provided in primary care settings may vary based on how physicians are incentivized. Little is known about the link between physician remuneration and psychiatric hospitalizations. We contribute to this literature by studying the relationship between physician remuneration and psychiatric hospitalizations in Canada's most populous province, Ontario. Specifically, we study family physicians (FPs) who switched from blended fee-for-service (FFS) to blended capitation remuneration …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers
© 2020 Elsevier B.V. Molybdenum sulfide (MoS2) with layered structure has emerged as a promising anode material for sodium ion batteries (SIBs) in light of its particular surface chemistry and physical structures. However, the MoS2-based SIBs usually suffered from the weaknesses of the low rate capability and poor cycling stability induced by the sluggish kinetics of Na+ intercalation and the diffluent discharge products. Herein, the defective MoS2 nanocrystals and sulfur nanodots simultaneously embedded in sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) fibers were fabricated via an electrospunning technology, followed by a simple annealing treatment. The unique architecture, in which MoS2 nanolayers and sulfur nanodots …
Reference Phantom Method For Ultrasonic Imaging Of Thin Dynamic Constructs, Andres Ruland, James M. Hill, Gordon G. Wallace
Reference Phantom Method For Ultrasonic Imaging Of Thin Dynamic Constructs, Andres Ruland, James M. Hill, Gordon G. Wallace
Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers
Quantitative ultrasound has a great potential for the non-destructive evaluation of tissue engineered constructs, where the local attenuation and the integrated backscatter coefficient (IBC) can be used for monitoring the development of biological processes. The local determination of both parameters can be achieved using the reference phantom method (RPM). However, its accuracy can be affected when evaluating constructs of evolving sound speed, attenuation and thickness, for example, when evaluating biodegradable hydrogels developing neocartilage. To assess the feasibility of using the RPM under such dynamic conditions while employing a 50-MHz transducer, we conducted a series of experiments on 3-mm-thick acellular hydrogels …

On The Generalization Of $ \Kappa $-Fractional Hilfer-Katugampola Derivative With Cauchy Problem, Samaira Naz, Muhammad Nawaz Naeem
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
We generalize the $\kappa$-fractional Hilfer--Katugampola derivative and set some properties of the generalized operator resulting from this. As an application, we demonstrate that the Cauchy problem with this new definition is equivalent to a second kind of Volterra integral equation. We discuss some specific cases for this problem.

Existence of a positive solution is shown for two singular two-point fractional boundary value problems with fractional boundary conditions using fixed point theory, lower order problems, and convolution of Green's functions. A nontrivial example is included.
Unitals In Projective Planes Of Order 16, Stoicho Dimitrov Stoichev, Mustafa Gezek
Unitals In Projective Planes Of Order 16, Stoicho Dimitrov Stoichev, Mustafa Gezek
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this study, we perform computer searches for unitals in planes of order 16. The number of known nonisomorphic unitals in these planes is improved to be 261. Some data related to 2-$(65,5,1)$ designs associated with unitals are given. New lower bounds on the number of unital designs in projective planes of order 16 and 2-$(65,5,1)$ designs are established. The computations show that thirty-nine unitals can be embedded in two or more nonisomorphic projective planes of order 16. Fifteen new connections between planes of order 16 (based on unitals) are found. All unitals found by the algorithms used in this …

Existence Results For A Class Of Boundary Value Problems For Fractional Differential Equations, Abdülkadi̇r Doğan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
By application of some fixed point theorems, that is, the Banach fixed point theorem, Schaefer's and the Leray-Schauder fixed point theorem, we establish new existence results of solutions to boundary value problems of fractional differential equations. This paper is motivated by Agarwal et al. (Georgian Math. J. 16 (2009) No.3, 401-411).
Performance Evaluation Of Snmpv1/2c/3 Using Different Security Models On Raspberry Pi, Eric Gamess, Sergio Hernandez
Performance Evaluation Of Snmpv1/2c/3 Using Different Security Models On Raspberry Pi, Eric Gamess, Sergio Hernandez
Research, Publications & Creative Work
The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is one of the dominant protocols for network monitoring and configuration. The first two versions of SNMP (v1 and v2c) use the Community-based Security Model (CSM), where the community is transferred in clear text, resulting in a low level of security. With the release of SNMPv3, the User-based Security Model (USM) and Transport Security Model (TSM) were proposed, with strong authentication and privacy at different levels. The Raspberry Pi family of Single-Board Computers (SBCs) is widely used for many applications. To help their integration into network management systems, it is essential to study the …
Impromptune: Symbolic Music Generation With Relative Attention Mechanisms, Connor J. Lennox
Impromptune: Symbolic Music Generation With Relative Attention Mechanisms, Connor J. Lennox
Honors Theses and Capstones
By combining attention-based mechanisms that have proved beneficial in the field of natural language processing with domain-specific knowledge about the structure of music, better predictions about piece continuations can be made. The goal of this work is to adapt current natural language processing techniques to a musical domain, and to generate new music by predicting continuations on a sequence of notes. An adaptation of traditional attention mechanisms to create a single prediction from sequential input is used to extend musical pieces by appending new elements repeatedly.

An Exceptionally Small New Polycotylid Plesiosaur (Reptilia: Sauropterygia) With Raptorial Eyes From The Western Interior Seaway Of North America, Robert O’Brien Clark
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Polycotylidae is a family of plesiosaurian marine reptiles that evolved during the Early Cretaceous and radiated into multiple genera during the Late Cretaceous, achieving a worldwide distribution. Derived polycotylids of the subclade Polycotylinae have a gracile and elongated rostrum, homodont dentition, an extended mandibular symphysis, and foreshortened temporal fenestrae. In this thesis, I describe a small and highly derived new polycotylid taxon based on three specimens from the Campanian of the Western Interior Seaway in North America. A high number of maxillary teeth, fused neural arches, propodials with well-defined facets, and heavily remodeled cortical bone indicate the specimens are adults, …

How serpentinites in the forearc mantle and subducted lithosphere become involved in enriching the subarc mantle source of arc magmas is controversial. Here we report molybdenum isotopes for primitive submarine lavas and serpentinites from active volcanoes and serpentinite mud volcanoes in the Mariana arc. These data, in combination with radiogenic isotopes and elemental ratios, allow development of a model whereby shallow, partially serpentinized and subducted forearc mantle transfers fluid and melt from the subducted slab into the subarc mantle. These entrained forearc mantle fragments are further metasomatized by slab fluids/melts derived from the dehydration of serpentinites in the subducted lithospheric …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Heterocyclic compounds with diaryl substituents have been a milestone approach for selective cyclooxygenase 2 (COX 2) inhibition by bioisosteric replacements and modifications. It is also known that thiazole derivatives have different pharmacological activities. In this study, nine novel 2-[(1,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazole-2-yl)thio]-N-(thiazole-2-yl)acetamide derivatives (Compound 1-9) were synthesized via the reaction of 1,5-disubstitued phenyl-imidazole-2-thiole and N-thiazole acetamide. The inhibitory effects of COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes were tested for the synthesized compounds. Enzyme-ligand interactions of the most active compound on COX subtypes were elucidated by molecular modeling studies. The percent inhibitory effect for compound 1, which is the naked derivative among all the compounds, was …

Identification Of Compounds Causing Cellular Autofluorescence In Touch Samples, Elora C. Wall
Master of Science in Forensic Science Directed Research Projects
As DNA analysis has advanced and produced tests with higher sensitivities, attention has turned toward obtaining DNA profiles from cells left with fingermarks. Recent studies have reported that cells deposited within fingermarks can exhibit differences in autofluorescence emission in the ‘red’ region of the visible spectrum (e.g., between 650-670 nm), which can be used to differentiate contributor cell population and separate them before DNA profiles. Interestingly, this emission was not consistent to the individual day-to-day and likely not a genetically-controlled attribute of the contributor. Instead, this emission signature results from extended exposure of the skin to certain materials such as …
A Gompertz Distribution For Time Scales, Tom Cuchta, Robert Jon Nichel, Sabrina Streipert
A Gompertz Distribution For Time Scales, Tom Cuchta, Robert Jon Nichel, Sabrina Streipert
Mathematics Faculty Research
We investigate a family of probability distributions, with three parameters associated with the dynamic Gompertz function. We prove its existence for various parameter sets and discuss the existence of its time scale moments. Afterwards, we investigate the special case of discrete time scales, where it is shown that the discrete Gompertz distribution is a q -geometric distribution of the second kind. Further, we find their q -binomial moments, we bound their expected value, and we show how a classical Gompertz distribution is obtained from them.

Study Of The Average Transverse Sphericity In $Pp$ Collisions At Large Hadron Collider (Lhc) Energies, Uzma Tabassam, Safdar Abbas, Muhammad Anns Saif, Zain Ul Abidin, Yasir Ali
Turkish Journal of Physics
In the current analysis we have reported the spectra of average transverse-sphericity as a function of multiplicity ($N_ch$) in $pp$ collisions for primary charged particles ($\pi^{+}, \pi^{-}, K^+, K^-, p$ and $\bar{p}$) in mid pseudo-rapidity of $ \eta < 0.8$ and in the kinematic transverse momentum range of $p_T > 0.5 \; GeV/c$ at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 0.9 and $7 \,TeV$. Two Monte Carlo event generators have been used for current analysis and the predictions of the model are compared to the results coming from the ALICE experiment based at the LHC. A detailed analysis has been carried out for three types of events (soft events, hard events and bulk events) categorized by …
Can The Circular Economy Concretize Sustainability? A Construal Level Approach To Encourage Sustainable Consumption., Jolie Gutentag
Can The Circular Economy Concretize Sustainability? A Construal Level Approach To Encourage Sustainable Consumption., Jolie Gutentag
Theses and Dissertations
Despite a growing awareness and understanding of the impact our lifestyles have on the environment, most people have not adequately changed their consumption patterns. One possibility for the disconnect is the perceived abstractness of sustainability. Drawing on construal level theory, this research proposes that framing environmental sustainability as circularity, using the principles of the circular economy, reduces the perceived abstractness of sustainability. Four studies investigate the effects of circular framing on sustainable consumption behavior, including the moderating role of consumers’ chronic level of construal, an innate mindset reflecting a tendency to view information more concretely or abstractly. Findings provide initial …

An Analysis Of The Global Warming Impact Of Humboldt State University's Refrigerant Inventory, Alex Eckert-Ross
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
With global warming potentials (GWP) in the thousands to tens of thousands of metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e) and the possibility for substantial emissions associated with leaks of refrigerants used in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) equipment, it is important for Humboldt State University (HSU) to document and report greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) associated with refrigerant leaks.
This study has collected data on HSU’s HVACR inventory, emphasizing the refrigerant types used, the charges of the equipment (i.e., the amounts of refrigerant in the systems), and the types of equipment. The data were aggregated into …

Merging Art And Science: Lessons Learned From An 'Otterly' Different Case Study, Jess Barger
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Environmental art projects use artistic interpretation to tell stories about the natural world, often with the hope that they will inspire awareness or behavioral change. In 2019, an art project to raise awareness about North American river otters (Lontra canadensis) was launched in Northern California, using over 100 river otter sculptures painted and decorated by local artists. Through a mixed-methods approach, I quantified the initial outcomes of the project, North Coast Otters, as well as the response to the project by the public on social media as a case study in environmental art and outreach. Participating artists’ interviews and …

Structural And Thermochronologic Evidence Of Paleogene-Neogene Faulting And Exhumation Of The Klamath Mountain Province, Taylor C. Team
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
The Klamath Mountains Province (KMP), located at the southern end of the forearc of the Cascadia Subduction Zone, displays a distinct topographic and geologic signature. Compared to the forearc in the north, the KMP comprises Paleozoic-Mesozoic basement rocks with relatively high modern elevation and relief. This study investigates the pattern of rock cooling in the KMP by using thermochronology on plutons exhumed by faults and plutons outside of mapped faults. In this study, I target three regions in the KMP: the Ashland pluton offset by the Siskiyou Summit fault in the northeast KMP, the Grayback pluton in the northwest KMP, …
Interactions Of Carbon Dioxide On Nickel Surface: A Reactive Molecular Dynamics Study Of Plasma- Catalysis, Leticia Adao Gomes
Interactions Of Carbon Dioxide On Nickel Surface: A Reactive Molecular Dynamics Study Of Plasma- Catalysis, Leticia Adao Gomes
Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects
The adsorption probability and reaction behavior of CO2 on nickel catalyst surfaces are investigated employing reactive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations using the ReaxFF potential. Such catalyst is used in the dry reforming reaction where greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide and methane, react producing synthesis gas, a potential clean energy source. However, this reaction is strongly endothermic due to the reactants' thermodynamic stability and requires a significant amount of energy. The selectivity and energy efficiency can be improved by combining a nonthermal plasma with a catalyst. Further insight into the underlying mechanisms of this process is needed to increase its applicability. Through …

Although you may not yet know what we mean by the term chemometrics, you almost certainly make routine use of chemometric techniques in your classes and labs: reporting an average result for several trials of an experiment or creating a calibration curve and using it to find an analyte’s concentration are two examples of chemometric methods analysis with which you almost certainly are familiar. The goal of this textbook is to provide an introduction to chemometrics suitable for the undergraduate chemistry curriculum at the junior or senior level; indeed, much of this textbook's content, including many of the examples and …
Representing And Learning Preferences Over Combinatorial Domains, Michael Huelsman
Representing And Learning Preferences Over Combinatorial Domains, Michael Huelsman
Theses and Dissertations--Computer Science
Agents make decisions based on their preferences. Thus, to predict their decisions one has to learn the agent's preferences. A key step in the learning process is selecting a model to represent those preferences. We studied this problem by borrowing techniques from the algorithm selection problem to analyze preference example sets and select the most appropriate preference representation for learning. We approached this problem in multiple steps.
First, we determined which representations to consider. For this problem we developed the notion of preference representation language subsumption, which compares representations based on their expressive power. Subsumption creates a hierarchy of preference …
Computational Utilities For The Game Of Simplicial Nim, Nelson Penn
Computational Utilities For The Game Of Simplicial Nim, Nelson Penn
Theses and Dissertations--Computer Science
Simplicial nim games, a class of impartial games, have very interesting mathematical properties. Winning strategies on a simplicial nim game can be determined by the set of positions in the game whose Sprague-Grundy values are zero (also zero positions). In this work, I provide two major contributions to the study of simplicial nim games. First, I provide a modern and efficient implementation of the Sprague-Grundy function for an arbitrary simplicial complex, and discuss its performance and scope of viability. Secondly, I provide a method to find a simple mathematical expression to model that function if it exists. I show the …

C_11 Modules Via Left Exact Preradicals, Ramazan Yaşar
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this article, we study modules with the condition that every image of a submodule under a left exact preradical has a complement which is a direct summand. This new class of modules properly contains the class of $C_{11}$-modules (and hence also $CS$-modules). Amongst other structural properties, we deal with direct sums and decompositions with respect to the left exact preradicals of this new class of modules. It is obtained a decomposition such that the image of the module itself is a direct summand for the left exact radical, which enjoys the new condition.

R2u3d: Recurrent Residual 3d U-Net For Lung Segmentation, Dhaval D. Kadia, Md Zahangir Alom, Ranga Burada, Tam Nguyen, Vijayan K. Asari
Computer Science Faculty Publications
3D Lung segmentation is essential since it processes the volumetric information of the lungs, removes the unnecessary areas of the scan, and segments the actual area of the lungs in a 3D volume. Recently, the deep learning model, such as U-Net outperforms other network architectures for biomedical image segmentation. In this paper, we propose a novel model, namely, Recurrent Residual 3D U-Net (R(2)U3D), for the 3D lung segmentation task. In particular, the proposed model integrates 3D convolution into the Recurrent Residual Neural Network based on U-Net. It helps learn spatial dependencies in 3D and increases the propagation of 3D volumetric …

There have been limited studies on the analysis of the nucleation and precipitation behind calcium fluoride. Earlier studies support a nucleation mechanism in agreement to classical nucleation theory (CNT) in which a surface nucleation mechanism is required for calcium fluoride. This experiment devised using the ISE method to calcium fluoride to find evidence of a nucleation mechanism like that of calcium carbonate (prenucleation cluster pathway). The potential and pH were recorded versus time and the potential data was converted to nCa2+ data of free calcium ions. It was determined that there was evidence of a similar nucleation mechanism for calcium …

We report the discovery and characterization of two transiting planets around the bright M1 V star LP 961-53 (TOI-776, J = 8.5 mag, M = 0.54 ± 0.03 M ⊙) detected during Sector 10 observations of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Combining the TESS photometry with HARPS radial velocities, as well as ground-based follow-up transit observations from the MEarth and LCOGT telescopes, for the inner planet, TOI-776 b, we measured a period of P b = 8.25 d, a radius of R b = 1.85 ± 0.13 R ⊕, and a mass of M b = 4.0 ± 0.9 …
