Evaluation Of Edison's Data Science Competency Framework Through A Comparative Literature Analysis, Karl R. B. Schmitt, Linda Clark, Katherine M. Kinnaird, Ruth E. H. Wertz, Björn Sandstede

Statistical and Data Sciences: Faculty Publications

During the emergence of Data Science as a distinct discipline, discussions of what exactly constitutes Data Science have been a source of contention, with no clear resolution. These disagreements have been exacerbated by the lack of a clear single disciplinary 'parent.' Many early efforts at defining curricula and courses exist, with the EDISON Project's Data Science Framework (EDISON-DSF) from the European Union being the most complete. The EDISON-DSF includes both a Data Science Body of Knowledge (DS-BoK) and Competency Framework (CF-DS). This paper takes a critical look at how EDISON's CF-DS compares to recent work and other published curricular or …

Using Qm/Mm Methods To Explore Sortase Enzyme Intermediates, Kinetics, And Stability, Kyle Whitham

WWU Graduate School Collection

Biochemistry has seen advancements in methods and understanding of the inner workings of proteins, yet biochemists struggle to see real time reaction pathways of protein intermediates. This is where computational chemistry comes in and fills in the holes in knowledge through the use of Quantum Mechanical (QM) models. QM chemistry alone does not give results in a reasonable timescale to predict protein chemistry in a reasonable amount of time. Computational chemistry methods such as Quantum mechanical (QM)/ Molecular Mechanical (MM) (QM/MM), allow us to split the in-silico system into two regions that utilize a fast MM force field region and …

Complex Fermatean Neutrosophic Graph And Application To Decision Making, Said Broumi, Swaminathan Mohanaselvi, Tomasz Witczak, Mohamed Talea, Assia Bakali, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

Original scientific paper Abstract: A new growing area of the neutrosophic set theory called complex neutrosophic sets (CNS) provides useful tools for dealing with uncertainty in complex valued physical variables that are observed in the actual world. A CNS takes values for the truth, indeterminacy and falsity membership functions in the complex plane's unit circle. In this research, a novel concept of complex fermatean neutrosophic graph (CFNG) is established and various basic graphical ideas such as the order, size, degree and total degree of a vertex of it are introduced. Also, set theoretical operations such as complement, union, join, ring-sum …

A New Type Of Neutrosophic Set In Pythagorean Fuzzy Environment And Applications To Multi-Criteria Decision Making, Mahmut Can Bozyıgıt, Murat Olgun, Florentin Smarandache, Mehmet Unver Jan 2023

A New Type Of Neutrosophic Set In Pythagorean Fuzzy Environment And Applications To Multi-Criteria Decision Making, Mahmut Can Bozyıgıt, Murat Olgun, Florentin Smarandache, Mehmet Unver

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In this paper, we introduce the concepts of Pythagorean fuzzy valued neutrosophic set (PFVNS) and Pythagorean fuzzy valued neutrosophic (PFVNV) constructed by considering Pythagorean fuzzy values (PFVs) instead of numbers for the degrees of the truth, the indeterminacy and the falsity, which is a new extension of intuitionistic fuzzy valued neutrosophic set (IFVNS). By means of PFVNSs, the degrees of the truth, the indeterminacy and the falsity can be given in Pythagorean fuzzy environment and more sensitive evaluations are made by a decision maker in decision making problems compared to IFVNSs. In other words, such sets enable a decision maker …

[Research Note] The Random Somatic Mutation Is Not Quite Random, Florentin Smarandache Jan 2023

[Research Note] The Random Somatic Mutation Is Not Quite Random, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

This research note challenges the idea that Random Somatic Mutations are entirely random, highlighting their non-equiprobable nature and their influence on evolution, involution, or indeterminacy. It recalls the Neutrosophic Theory of Evolution, extending Darwin’s theory, and emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between different senses of “random mutation” in evolutionary theory.

Medical Diagnosis Via Refined Neutrosophic Fuzzy Logic: Detection Of Illness Using Neutrosophic Sets, K. Hemabala, B. Srinivasa Kumar, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The objective of the paper is to implement and validate diagnosis in the medical field via refined neutrosophic fuzzy logic (RNFL). As such, we have proposed a Max-Min composition (MMC) method in RNFL. This method deals with the diagnosis under certain constraints like uncertainty and indeterminacy. Further, we have considered the diagnosis problems to validate the sensitivity analysis of the novel multi attribute decision-making technique. Finally, we gave the graphical representations and compared the obtained results with other existing measures in refined neutrosophic fuzzy sets.

This book extends the concept of linguistic coordinate geometry using linguistic planes or semi-linguistic planes. In the case of coordinate planes, we are always guaranteed of the distance between any two points in that plane. However, in the case of linguistic and semi-linguistic planes, we can not always determine the linguistic distance between any two points. This is the first limitation of linguistic planes and semi-linguistic planes.

Beyond Negation And Excluded Middle: An Exploration To Embrace The Otherness Beyond Classical Logic System And Into Neutrosophic Logic, Florentin Smarandache, Victor Christianto

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

As part of our small contribution in dialogue toward better peace development and reconciliation studies, and following Toffler & Toffler’s War and Antiwar (1993), the present article delves into a realm of logic beyond the traditional confines of negation and the excluded middle principle, exploring the nuances of "Otherness" that transcend classical and Nagatomo logics. Departing from the foundational premises of classical Aristotelian logic systems, this exploration ventures into alternative realms of reasoning, specifically examining Neutrosophic Logic and Klein bottle logic (cf. Smarandache, 2005). The study challenges conventional boundaries and explores the implications of embracing paradoxes and self-reference in logic …

The n-th PowerSet of a Set {or Pn(S)} better describes our real world, because a system S (which may be a company, institution, association, country, society, set of objects/plants/animals/beings, set of concepts/ideas/propositions, etc.) is formed by sub-systems, which in their turn by sub-sub-systems, and so on. We prove that the SuperHyperFunction is a generalization of classical Function, SuperFunction, and HyperFunction. And the SuperHyperAlgebra, SuperHyperGraph are part of the SuperHyperStructure. Almost all structures in our real world are Neutrosophic SuperHyperStructures since they have indeterminate/incomplete/uncertain/conflicting data.

Dynamic Nearest Neighbor Classifier Using Mass-Ratio-Variance Outlier Factors For Class Imbalance Problem, Patcharasiri Fuangfoo Jan 2023

Dynamic Nearest Neighbor Classifier Using Mass-Ratio-Variance Outlier Factors For Class Imbalance Problem, Patcharasiri Fuangfoo

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The objective of classifcation is to assign a class to a given data instance. One well-recognized classifer is the k-NN model, where the class of an instance is determined by considering the majority class among its k nearest neighbors. However, k-NN’s performance weakens in imbalanced datasets. To address this, adjusting k for each instance based on factors like its position relative to clusters or isolation, and integrating density-based scores from a parameterfree Mass-ratio-variance Outlier Factor (MOF) into the k-NN process, helps determine suitable nearest neighbors. Our research focuses on the development of a dynamic nearest neighbor classifer tailored specifcally to …

Meta-Analysis Of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Gene Expression Data From Obese And Non-Obese Patients, Dakota William Shields Jan 2023

Meta-Analysis Of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Gene Expression Data From Obese And Non-Obese Patients, Dakota William Shields

Masters Theses

"The prevalence of gene expression microarray datasets in public repositories gives opportunity to analyze biologically interesting datasets without running the laboratory aspect in house. Such experimentation is expensive in terms of finances, time, and expertise, which often results in low numbers of replicates. Meta-analysis techniques attempt to overcome issues due to few biological or technical replicates by combining separate experiments together to increase statistical power. Proper statistical considerations help to offset issues like simultaneous testing of thousands of genes, unintended hybridization, and other noises.

Microarrays contain light intensities from tens of thousands of hybridized probes giving a measure of gene …

The Importance Of The Pressure Anisotropy Induced By Strong Magnetic Fields On Neutron Star Physics, Efrain J. Ferrer, Aric Hackebill

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications and Presentations

In this paper we discuss in some detail how the pressures determined from semi-classical statistical averaging of the energy momentum tensor in the presence of a uniform background magnetic field are anisotropic with different pressures arising along and perpendicular to the magnetic field direction. Hence, we analyze how this result can affect two important characteristics of dense magnetized systems: (i) The hadron-quark phase transition in the presence of a magnetic field, (ii) The behavior of the speed of sound in dense magnetized systems. Taking into account that large magnetic fields are expected to be present in the interior of neutron …

Non-Hermitian Skin Effect In Two Dimensional Continuous Systems, Cem Yuce, Hamidreza Ramezani Jan 2023

Non-Hermitian Skin Effect In Two Dimensional Continuous Systems, Cem Yuce, Hamidreza Ramezani

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications and Presentations

An extensive number of the eigenstates can become exponentially localized at one boundary of nonreciprocal non-Hermitian systems. This effect is known as the non-Hermitian skin effect and has been studied mostly in tight-binding lattices. To extend the skin effect to continues systems beyond 1D, we introduce a quadratic imaginary vector potential in the continuous two dimensional Schr¨odinger equation. We find that inseparable eigenfunctions for separable nonreciprocal Hamiltonians appear under infinite boundary conditions. Introducing boundaries destroy them and hence they can only be used as quasistationary states in practice. We show that all eigenstates can be clustered at the point where …
