During the past academic year the Northeast Archives of Folklore and Oral History at the University of Maine at Orono completed several major accessioning projects. From Lynn Franklin of the Portland Press Herald, they received almost 70 taped interviews with Mainers from all walks of life. James R. Wilson of Rutgers donated his collection of Miramichi Valley (N.B.) material: field tapes, recordings of the Miramichi Folksong Festival, and dubbings from the Louise Manny Collection. And the indefatigable David Littleton-Taylor deposited still more interviews with lobster fishermen. Several smaller accessions from independent researchers such as John J. Kelly, Jr., and Norman …

A Multivariate Study Of Three Prehistoric Tennessee Skeletal Populations: Mouse Creek, Dallas, And Middle Cumberland, Hugh E. Berryman
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to employ the techniques of physical anthropology in the examination of an archaeological hypothesis set forth by Thomas M. N. Lewis and Madeline Kneberg in the 1940's. The hypothesis concerned the possible Middle Tennessee origin of the Mouse Creek people. Mouse Creek cultural remains (e.g. settlement pattern, architecture, burial customs, and pottery) were judged to differ from their nearest contemporary neighbors, the Dallas, while showing certain similarities to the Middle Cumberland culture of Middle Tennessee.
A multivariate statistical analysis using 22 cranio-facial measurements was applied to skeletal material representing these three populations: the Mouse …

Godparents Among Mexican-American And Anglo-American Catholics, Sonia Felicita Sanchez Lawson
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
This study dealt with the selection process and role expectations associated with the sponsor or godparent among Mexican American and Anglo-American Catholics. The primary purpose was to answer four questions: (1) Who is selected to be a godparent; (2) How he or she is chosen: (3) When the godparent is selected; and (4) What the parents expect the godparent to do for the child. In order to answer these questions a sample of families selected by the priests of three parishes differing with respect to ethnic composition was interviewed. This sample was composed of families which had had a child …
