Social Science Journals In Interwar Romania And The U.S. Model Of Sociology, Valentina Pricopie
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In her article "Social Science Journals in Interwar Romania and the U.S. Model of Sociology" Valentina Pricopie analyzes the US-American presence in two journals of the Bucharest School of Sociology between the two world wars, as well as the information provided by US articles with regard to the US-American sociological model and its developments. Pricopie's analysis suggests strong academic connections, cooperation, and consistent exchange of academic knowledge between the two schools of thought. The analysis is based a quantitative study of the archives including the frequency of occurrence of items in thirty-one issues of Arhiva pentru Ştiinţa şi Reforma Socială …

Journal of Human Performance in Extreme Environments
Since its founding over 15 years ago, JHPEE has always had a focal emphasis on human performance in space. Thus, it is no surprise that we would want to highlight a new book from astronaut Jerry L Ross, who has set records for launches and spacewalks with NASA. However, there is always more to an astronaut biography, as we have learned since the days of We Seven. Our interest in an astronaut’s life and experiences helps us to see the answers to four different questions, which tell us different things about this most unique of human performance environments.
Incorporating Usability Into The Database Review Process: New Lessons And Possibilities, Ilana R. Barnes
Incorporating Usability Into The Database Review Process: New Lessons And Possibilities, Ilana R. Barnes
Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations
The objective of this study is to examine the impact of incorporating user experience study methods into library database purchase and renewal. In the summer of 2013, Purdue libraries introduced a modified standard usability concept (heuristic evaluation, or expert review) into an existing yearly electronic resource evaluation process. Every year librarians already evaluated electronic resources in the collection using a set of parameters including usage statistics but never explicitly included database usability. Introducing more user experience parameters into process allows librarians to record usability errors to be communicated back to database vendors or to be considered for database renewal and …
Opportunities And Challenges Of Data Publication: A Case Study From Purdue, David Scherer, Lisa Zilinski, Courtney E. Matthews
Opportunities And Challenges Of Data Publication: A Case Study From Purdue, David Scherer, Lisa Zilinski, Courtney E. Matthews
Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations
Beginning in 2011, there have been several policy changes directly affecting the management, preservation, and accessibility of publically-funded research and resulting research data in the United States. In January 18, 2011 the National Science Foundation (NSF) required data management plans to be submitted with all grant proposals. On February 22, 2013, the Office of Science and Technology Policy of the President of the United States extended a similar requirement to all federal agencies who have a research and development budget of more than $100 million. These requirements illustrate the need for further coordination and management of data as scholarship and …

Carpe Data: Data Curation Services At Four Different Institutions, Lisa Zilinski, Christina Chan Park, Robin Dasler, Natsuko Nicholls
Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations
As funding agencies require data management plans (DMP) and data sharing, institutions are developing data services in their libraries. Data services may include data curation, including metadata creation and data preservation; data discovery, such as data set registration and data linking; extended references services, such as DMP consultations and data needs assessments; and internal activities, such as environmental scans and support for institutional/data repositories.
The panel will discuss the evolution, status, and future of data services development in their respective institutions including:
- The status of data services development in their institution
- The steps taken to get to their current stage …
