Effects Of Radiation Upon Consumption Of Alcohol As A Discriminated Fluid Stimulus In The Rat, Joseph A. Straka
Effects Of Radiation Upon Consumption Of Alcohol As A Discriminated Fluid Stimulus In The Rat, Joseph A. Straka
Masters Theses
Introduction
In the recent history of psychology, considerable interest has arisen concerning the use of radiation (usually as a UCS fitted into a classical conditioning paradigm) to effect changes in behavior. Mechanisms by which radiation induces behavioral changes are obscure, and psychology, along with the disciplines of physiology and medicine, has been attempting to clarify variables in operation.
The study of drug {including alcohol) effects upon behavior has had a somewhat parallel development in the field of psychology in terms of its recency and the obscure nature of the variables operating upon resultant behavior.
These two areas of interest have …

An Examination Of The Concepts And Critics Of The Theories Of Mass Society, Jeffrey Stephen Margolis
An Examination Of The Concepts And Critics Of The Theories Of Mass Society, Jeffrey Stephen Margolis
Masters Theses
Introduction
The quotations above are representative of the three prominent problems entertained by the theories of mass society; that is, freedom in the polity, freedom in the community, and inner directiveness, or freedom with one's own self. This series of problems involves the totality of existence.
Traditional philosophic speculation, the realm of the totality, demands an examination of man's concept of what he is, and what he is not, of what he sees, and that which he does not see. For the prescription "Know thyself" is not only a panegyric for introspective soul seeking; rather, it is an encomium on …

Manipulation Of The Magnitude Of Incentive Variable And Runway Performance, David Mason Wildasin
Masters Theses
The purpose of the present study was an attempt to replicate the findings of Wolfe and Kaplon (1941) using rats and somewhat more precise measurements of the dependent variables. Both the former study and Dyal's work indicate that specification of the amount of reward in terms of the weight of the food is insufficient. Specifically, the effect of presenting the same amount of food in one unit as against presenting it in five units was investigated.
An Exploratory Study Of Deferred Gratification Patterns Of Junior High School And Senior High School Drop-Outs And Part-Time Attenders, Charles T. Woods
An Exploratory Study Of Deferred Gratification Patterns Of Junior High School And Senior High School Drop-Outs And Part-Time Attenders, Charles T. Woods
Masters Theses
Introduction
The concept of Deferred Gratification refers to the practice of postponing immediate satisfactions so that future goals may be gained. Today's activities are view-example, renouncing emotional impulses will permit eventual emotional satisfaction. Education is viewed as an investment in the future prospects. Saving money is done for future satisfactions. Putting off marriage until one has a good job is perceived as the means to greater mobility.
The utility of Deferred Gratification Patterns (DGP) is in its relationship to social class and social mobility. This is seen in that some realize that social mobility, upward or downward, is a probability …
Father Charles E. Coughlin And The Formation Of The Union Party 1936, Michael H. Parsons
Father Charles E. Coughlin And The Formation Of The Union Party 1936, Michael H. Parsons
Masters Theses
Preface
On October 17, 1926, a young Irish-Catholic priest stood before the altar of his church in Royal Oak, Michigan and delivered a radio sermon. Within a decade, his voice, transmitted by thousands of radios, would be familiar to millions of Americans. Father Charles E. Coughlin had begun a stormy career that would earn him the title "radio priest" and make him one of the most controversial figures to appear on the American political scene in the depression-ridden 1930's.

U.S. Foreign Aid Policy: Its Impact On Public Opinion, Jane L. Olson
U.S. Foreign Aid Policy: Its Impact On Public Opinion, Jane L. Olson
Masters Theses
Introduction
An analysis of the relationships between public policy and public opinion is vital to gaining an understanding and appreciation of the political process in the United States. According to democratic theory, citizens are to be free to express their views on issues and policy decisions. In a representative democracy the elected officials are supposed to carry out the wishes of their constituents. This study is directed toward analyzing the relationships between foreign aid policy and public opinion toward ten selected policy changes which have taken place since World War II. It focuses on the formal foreign aid program; and, …

The Private Session In Michigan Council-Manager City Government, Dale H. Poel
The Private Session In Michigan Council-Manager City Government, Dale H. Poel
Masters Theses
Introduction
Norton Long has stated that "...under the deceptive uniformity of an apparently similar legal structure, a wide range of actual variance appears in the 'constitutions' of our local government."1 The concern of this study is one part of that wide range of variance: the private and/or informal sessions held by councils in Michigan council-manager cities. These sessions are part of that variance which, if not understood, must lead to tentativeness and uncertainty in generalizations on the local government process. They would include any meetings of the council and manager other than the formal public meeting. Instances in which …
The Effects Of Prior Success Or Failure And Subsequent Deviant Verbal Behavior On Group Puzzle Completion, James L. Bowditch
The Effects Of Prior Success Or Failure And Subsequent Deviant Verbal Behavior On Group Puzzle Completion, James L. Bowditch
Masters Theses
First paragraph:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of experimentally controlled working conditions upon task performance and attitudes of small work groups. In one condition, initial group experience in the form of success or failure is manipulated in order to study its effects upon subsequent group task performance and attitude. In another condition, the effects of disruption on group performance and attitude is investigated using stooges as the disrupters.
