An Investigation Of Employee Attitudes And Employee Performance, Richard V. Washburn
An Investigation Of Employee Attitudes And Employee Performance, Richard V. Washburn
Masters Theses
Industrial managers are showing an increasing interest in employee attitudes, opinions and morale. This conclusion is reflected in the fact that many companies conduct attitude and opinion surveys, train their supervisors in human relations and provide other functions designed to create favorable attitudes.
Management concern for the promotion of favorable employee attitudes may be attributed to two main factors. Part of the concern may be attributed to a general trend toward greater social responsibilities of industry. The other, and perhaps greater part can be attributed to an assumption that employees with favorable attitudes are more productive than those with generally …

Group Cohesiveness and Group Productivity
Cartwright and Zander (1953) distinguished at least three different meanings in their intuitive and operational descriptions of group cohesiveness: (a) attraction to the group, (b) morale, and (c) coordination of efforts of group members. Others have attempted to classify meanings of cohesiveness into two general categories. One category of definitions centers chiefly on particular aspects of group behavior or group process. Here, the meaning of cohesiveness refers to "sticking togetherness," productivity, task involvement and good team work. A common observation is that members of a cohesive group display a feeling of "we-ness" or "togetherness," meaning …
An Investigation Of The Visual Processes Involved In The Vertical-Horizontal Illusion, Robert L. Vette
An Investigation Of The Visual Processes Involved In The Vertical-Horizontal Illusion, Robert L. Vette
Masters Theses
The vertical-horizontal illusion has been the object of experimental study for many years. The first man to investigate the vertical-horizontal illusion was probably Oppel in 1854. Since the time of Oppel's first experiment, many theories have been advanced in an attempt to explain what causes this illusion to occur in our perception of connected vertical-horizontal lines. The primary theory that is most widely accepted states that the vertical line in the "T" illusion will be judged longer because of the vertical-horizontal relationship.
Pan (1934) suggested that the "T" figure illusion was not due entirely to the interaction of the vertical …

A Comparative Study Of Greenup And Toledo, Illinois, Edgar W. Morgan
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study is to make a comparative analysis of Greenup and Toledo, Illinois. The intent is to investigate and compare the historical origin, reasons for settlement, early development, growth patterns, industry, lines of transportation, and elements of similarity and difference between the towns.
Included in the study are interpretations presented as to why the towns grew up so close together, why one became larger than the other, why the one became the county-seat and still remained smaller, how industry and transportation are important to these communities, and the ultimate character which has evolved for each community. Also …

Some Factors In The Establishment Of Autocracy In Ghana, Peter Martin Stephenson
Some Factors In The Establishment Of Autocracy In Ghana, Peter Martin Stephenson
Masters Theses
In October, 1961, the Ghanaian legislature enacted two laws which received considerable attention from the world press. One made illegal any statement which could be taken as criticism of the President. This was to apply even in the legislature, so that it would be extremely difficult for any anti-Nkrumah forces there to operate effectively. The other law empowered the President to appoint special courts to deal with crimes against the state. This might not have been especially noteworthy except that they were clearly set up so that they could easily be used to bring about the execution of persons who …

Federal – Local Relations: A Case Study Of The City Of Kalamazoo In 1962, Glen L. Bachelder
Federal – Local Relations: A Case Study Of The City Of Kalamazoo In 1962, Glen L. Bachelder
Masters Theses
Purpose and Scope
It is the purpose of this paper to study the impact of federal government aid on Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1962. As a setting for the case study information, the development of federal aid programs as they affect municipal governments in the United States will be explored. The case study approach was selected since the bulk of material now available on the subject deals with the programs as viewed from the National Government level or as applied to the fifty states. Thus the idea of a detailed look at just one city as a recipient of federal aid …

The Radical Right And Its Influence Upon American Foreign Policy, David Stringer Roberts
The Radical Right And Its Influence Upon American Foreign Policy, David Stringer Roberts
Masters Theses
Introduction
This thesis is an exposition into the American radical right. It is the author's contention that expository writing has a role to play in thesis-writing, especially dealing with broad political problems such as the radical right movement.
The major "thesis" of this paper is that the radical right has an inordinate influence on the formulation of American foreign policy, out of all proportion to its actual numbers. All efforts will be made to prove this proposition.
Absent Fathers And Problem Behavior, A Comparison Of Children From Broken And Unbroken Homes, Earl Walter Morris
Absent Fathers And Problem Behavior, A Comparison Of Children From Broken And Unbroken Homes, Earl Walter Morris
Masters Theses
Introduction
This study is an attempt to explore several aspects of the influence of the family upon the occurrence of problem behavior among children.1 Essentially it deals with a comparison of the occurrence of problem behavior among two groups of children: (1) children in the homes where the father is absent because of death, divorce, separation or desertion; and (2) children in homes where both parents are present.
In the past the "broken home" has received a great deal of attention is delinquency research. The physical presence of absence of a parent has not been found to be highly …
