Patriotism Post 9/11 And Contraction, Richard C. Crepeau
Patriotism Post 9/11 And Contraction, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
Now back in the country among My Fellow Americans, but still wandering the highways and byways, I watch with some interest the spectacle of the baseball playoffs and the World Series in the new Post-9/11 World. I am struck by the intensity of the patriotic pageantry prior to each game. The often beautiful and moving singing of the National Anthem; the excessive displays of the red, white and blue; President Bush throwing out the first ball at the World Series; all conspire to mark these events as great moments of communal remembrance and/or celebration.

Cyclic Changes In Estradiol Regulate Synaptic Plasticity Through The Map Kinase Pathway, Ruifen Bi, Michael R. Foy, Rose-Marie Vouimba, Richard F. Thompson, Michel Baudry
Psychological Science Faculty Works
Hippocampal synaptic structure and function exhibit marked variations during the estrus cycle of female rats. Estradiol activates the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase pathway in numerous cell types, and MAP kinase has been shown to play a critical role in the mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity. Here, we report that endogenous estrogen produces a tonic phosphorylation/activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2 (ERK2)/MAP kinase throughout the female rat brain and an increase in tyrosine phosphorylation of NR2 subunits of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. Moreover, cyclic changes in estrogen levels during the estrus cycle of female rats are associated with corresponding changes in the levels …

The Anchor: 2001
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
