Influential Factors Contributing To Exercise Compliance Following A Structured Lifestyle Change Program, Wayne E. Borin Edd
Influential Factors Contributing To Exercise Compliance Following A Structured Lifestyle Change Program, Wayne E. Borin Edd
Dissertations
Cardiovascular disease remains the number one cause of death in the United States, with five hundred thousand people diagnosed annually. Even though regular exercise has been shown to dramatically reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, few hospitals offer programs that focus on the requisite lifestyle changes for participants to maintain long-term exercise programs. In an effort to determine what factors contribute to long-term exercise compliance, this study surveyed 279 participants of the Scripps Ornish/Healing Hearts program, a comprehensive lifestyle change program, to identify the factors that helped explain variation in exercise compliance among program completers. Results of the hierarchical multiple …

Inefficient National Political Parties In Brazil And The Effects On Economic Policy, Jason Sullivan
Inefficient National Political Parties In Brazil And The Effects On Economic Policy, Jason Sullivan
Honors Theses
I intended to study the domestic and international issues that pushed and pulled at the government in its creation of its economic policy. I intended to focus on the executive branch of the government and the international organizations and sovereign nations that influenced the policy decisions surrounding the specific year of 1997. However, as I researched I found something that I think is as just as important if not more important in creating Brazil's economic policy. As I researched it became evident that the characteristics of the Brazilian political parties had an influence on how all policies are formulated, more …

Agroecosystems Analysis From The Grass Roots: A Multidimensional Experiential Learning Course, Mary Wiedenhoeft, Steve Simmons, Ricardo Salvador, Gina Mcandrews, Charles A. Francis, James W. King, David Hole
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications
An intensive, experiential travel course in Agroecosystems Analysis was conducted in Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska (United States) during summers of 1998 and 1999. The intended student audience was advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students. Pretravel readings and a week-long series of farm visits, which consisted of in-depth interviews with the farmers and their families, prepared student teams to analyze and evaluate the production, economic, environmental, and social sustainability of 10 farms. Students shared their analyses both orally and in written reports. Based on a multifaceted student evaluation process, we found that participants were highly motivated, strongly engaged with the course …

Faculty Exchange Program Finishes Its Fourth Year, Lynn Lutgen
Cornhusker Economics
The Department of Agricultural Economics recently completed its fourth year of partnering with USDA in a Faculty Exchange Program. During August of each year beginning professors from Russian and the Ukraine arrive in Lincoln, stay for about five months and then return to their homelands. While in Nebraska they take classes, travel, develop new class outlines, collect material and write articles, all of which are used when they return home to introduce to new classes and extension activities at their respective universities. The last group brings the total to 17 visiting professors that we have hosted at Nebraska. Impressions of …
