Regulation And Trade Of Genetically Modified Products, Luc Veyssiere, Konstantinos Giannakas
Regulation And Trade Of Genetically Modified Products, Luc Veyssiere, Konstantinos Giannakas
Cornhusker Economics
The emergence of agricultural biotechnology and the subsequent introduction of genetically modified (GM) products into the food system have been among the most controversial issues surrounding the increasingly scrutinized agri-food system. While agricultural producers have responded to the agronomic benefits associated with the producer-oriented, first generation of GM products and have been adopting GM crops in increasing numbers, consumers around the world have expressed an aversion to food products containing GM ingredients. Consumer opposition to GM products varies significantly both between and within countries and is founded on health, environmental, ethical and/or philosophical concerns about agricultural biotechnology.
Regional Travel Options 2004-05 Program Evaluation, Jennifer Dill
Regional Travel Options 2004-05 Program Evaluation, Jennifer Dill
Urban Studies and Planning Faculty Publications and Presentations
Regional Travel Options contracted with the Portland State University Center for Urban Studies to evaluate all program efforts over the 2004-05 fiscal year. Services provided were shown in relationship to the Regional Travel Options program 5-year strategic plan. The level of participation, satisfaction and the use of alternative travel options were measured where possible. Finally, the extent to which programs supported RTO objectives and connections to other regional goals was assessed. Results included auto-trip reductions. Recommendations for improving data collection were made. Each RTO-partner program is detailed individually in the appendices.

Marital Harmony And Conflict: Linkages To Infants' Emotional Regulation, Cardiac Vagal Tone, And Developmental Status At Six- And Nine-Months Of Age, Staci Shizuko Ohmine
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined the linkages between marital harmony and conflict and infants' emotional and physiological regulation abilities and developmental status at six- and nine-months of age. Participants included 93 first-time mothers and their infants (43 males, 50 females) from a Mountain West community. Mothers were asked to complete a battery of questionnaires, including a demographic measure and Braiker and Kelly's (1979) marital quality questionnaire. The revised Bayley Scales of Infant Development (BSID II) and Behavior Rating Scales (BRS) 2nd Edition were administered at six- and nine-months to measure infants' mental and motor development status and emotional regulation abilities. Infants' heart …

An English For Specific Purposes Curriculum To Prepare English Learners To Become Nursing Assistants, Abel Javier Romo
Theses and Dissertations
This project details the designing and implementation of an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Curriculum to prepare English learners to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (UVRMC) in Provo, Utah. UVRMC, which is owned by Intermountain Health Care (IHC), employs a group of about 40 non-native speakers of English. They work as housekeepers and have interest in learning English and consequently acquiring new skills they could use in better jobs to improve the quality of their lives. UVRMC would like these employees to obtain additional education in order to provide them with better employment opportunities. …

The Synthesis And Testing Of Arenearylpyrimidylmethanes (Aapm) As Anti-Malarial Agents, N. R. Yepuri, R. Haritakul, R. Griffith, S. P. Leach, Paul A. Keller
Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)
The anti-malarial activity of the arenearylpyrimidylmethane (AAPM) class of compounds emerged from database searching of a pharmacophore. A new 2 step synthesis of the AAPM scaffold is reported and subsequent substitution yielded a short synthesis of the lead anti-malarial compound. The presence of atropisomerism in this class of compounds is also reported for the first time.
