Un Poeta Partenopeo In Australia: Paolo Totaro, Gitano Rando
Un Poeta Partenopeo In Australia: Paolo Totaro, Gitano Rando
Faculty of Arts - Papers (Archive)

Oregon's Approach To Health Care Reform : An Analysis Of The Role Of The Business Community In The Evolution Of The Oregon Health Plan, Peter Chuka Olemgbe
Dissertations and Theses
On February 1, 1994, the state of Oregon implemented its landmark health reform legislation---the Oregon health plan. The plan was conceived as an insurance program which uses a prioritized list of treatment protocols to ration health care services to Oregon's poor residents.
During the planning and implementation process of the program, various groups (political stakeholders) participated to bring the program to fruition. Although it is commonly known that one of these stakeholders was the Oregon business community, it is not clear what form its participation took and the nature of its influence. While it is generally assumed that businesses are …
Regeneration Patterns And Facilitation Following Blowdown In A Self- Replacing Lodgepole Pine (Pinus Contorta) Stand In Central Oregon, Jennifer Michelle Karps
Regeneration Patterns And Facilitation Following Blowdown In A Self- Replacing Lodgepole Pine (Pinus Contorta) Stand In Central Oregon, Jennifer Michelle Karps
Dissertations and Theses
Nurse plant and object facilitation is an important factor mitigating abiotic stress, improving seedling recruitment, and shaping the fine-scale spatial patterns of many plant communities. I investigate the role of facilitation on lodgepole pine regeneration following blowdown in central Oregon. My objective is to examine the importance of nurse objects on seedling recruitment under varying stand conditions. I base my analysis on 1) the mapped locations and attributes of seedlings, saplings, trees, shrubs, snags, stumps, and sound and decomposed logs in each of five, 500 m2 circular plots, 2) water holding capacity estimates of woody and leafy litter and …

The Cape Grim Scanning Uv Spectrometer, Stephen R. Wilson
The Cape Grim Scanning Uv Spectrometer, Stephen R. Wilson
Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)
The scanning spectral radiometer operating at Cape Grim provides estimates of irradiance for several spectral regions between 298 and 400 nm. The physical characteristics of the spectrometer system are documented, including the wavelength shift and cosine response of the detector head. The procedures used for the spectrometer’s in situ calibration are also described. The scatter in the resulting calibrations is quantified for the period between 2000 and 2003, providing an estimate of the (wavelength dependent) uncertainty in the measurement.

Dynamics Of Immobilized And Native Escherichia Coli Dihydrofolate Reductase By Quasielastic Neutron Scattering, M. Tehei, J. Smith, C. Monk, J. Ollivier, M. Oettl, V. Kurkal, J. L. Finney, R. M. Daniel
Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)
The internal dynamics of native and immobilized Escherichia coli dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) have been examined using incoherent quasielastic neutron scattering. These results reveal no difference between the high frequency vibration mean-square displacement of the native and the immobilized E. coli DHFR. However, length-scale-dependent, picosecond dynamical changes are found. On longer length scales, the dynamics are comparable for both DHFR samples. On shorter length scales, the dynamics is dominated by local jump motions over potential barriers. The residence time for the protons to stay in a potential well is t=7.95 ps for the native DHFR and t=20.36 ps for the immobilized …

Yes, in his recent state of the union address, President Bush said, "We will also fund additional research in cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol, not just from corn but from wood chips and stalks or switchgrass. Our goal is to make this new kind of ethanol practical and competitive within six years."

Card Check Recognition: The Ongoing Legal And Legislative Battle, Michael E. Aleo
Card Check Recognition: The Ongoing Legal And Legislative Battle, Michael E. Aleo
ExpressO
A great debate has been brewing for years over whether unions should be able to organize employees outside of the traditional election procedures provided by the National Labor Relations Act (“NLRA” or “the Act”). Typically, in an organizing drive, a union solicits support from employees to indicate a desire to run a National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB” or “Board”) election. The union does this by collecting cards from employees affirming the employees’ desire to have a representation election. If the union collects valid cards from at least one-third of eligible employees in the appropriate bargaining unit, the union may then …
