A Qualitative Study Of The Supports Women Find Most Beneficial When Dealing With A Spouse's Sexually Addictive Or Compulsive Behaviors, Jill Christine Manning
Theses and Dissertations
While not included in the diagnostic classifications of sexual disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), sexual addictions and compulsivities are increasingly being encountered by mental health professionals, and the field of sexual addictions is gaining wider acceptance (Delmonico & Carnes, 1999; Garos, 1997). Research shows the majority of people struggling with sexual addictions and compulsivities involving the Internet are married, heterosexual males (Cooper, Delmonico, & Burg, 2000), and that women who are married to these men are directly impacted by this problem (Schneider, 2000b). Although there is research on many issues relating to wives of …

Where Is The Proper Balance? Public Access To Government Information In An Era Of Concern Over National Security, James T. Shaw
Where Is The Proper Balance? Public Access To Government Information In An Era Of Concern Over National Security, James T. Shaw
Criss Library Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
My goal today is not to tell you precisely where the proper balance is, because that can only be worked out in democratic interplay among the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of our governments. That process is awkward, halting, and sometimes maddening; but I continue to have great faith in the wisdom of our Founders, who perceived that checks and balances would over time prove a guarantor of our liberties. We must always remember that the Founders deliberately structured the Federal government so that it could never be too efficient. Recall that Benito Mussolini made great progress in making the …

Why Bash Americans?, Erika Simpson
Why Bash Americans?, Erika Simpson
Political Science Publications
This article by Erika Simpson discusses the complexities and challenges in Canada-U.S. relations, particularly under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Contrary to the hopes of many Conservative voters for improved relations, Harper's early actions, such as criticizing U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins over comments on the Northwest Passage, indicate a contentious stance. The article explores the historical context of Canada's cautious approach to U.S. dominance, emphasizing Canadian values of multilateralism and diplomacy. It highlights how Canadian leaders from various political parties have often criticized U.S. policies to maintain a balance and assert Canadian sovereignty. The article also contrasts Canadian …

Role Of The Precautionary Principle In Water Recycling, A. I. Schäfer, Sharon Beder
Role Of The Precautionary Principle In Water Recycling, A. I. Schäfer, Sharon Beder
Faculty of Arts - Papers (Archive)
In an engineering context the precautionary principle is often perceived as an excuse to do nothing or a substantial barrier to technical progress. The precautionary principle requires that remedial measures be taken in situations of scientific uncertainty where evidence of harm cannot be proven but potential damage to human or environmental health is significant. In this paper the scope of the precautionary principle in water recycling is discussed. It is clear that uncertainties and risks exist in many areas of water recycling. These risks are closely linked to the risks of sewage discharge. Hence, water recycling has two main areas …

State Law And Policy On Prostitution And The Impact On Sex Trafficking, Donna M. Hughes Dr.
State Law And Policy On Prostitution And The Impact On Sex Trafficking, Donna M. Hughes Dr.
Donna M. Hughes
Law and policy on prostitution are being debated and changed in many countries around the world. A number of countries have changed their laws and policies on prostitution in the last seven years (the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, New Zealand, and South Korea), and several more governments have proposed change in their prostitution laws (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ghana, Russian Federation). The different state approaches to prostitution – prohibition, regulation, decriminalization, and abolition – will be defined and described. Central to the debate on law and policy on prostitution is the relationship between sex trafficking and prostitution. All four of these …
