Polarographic Trace Analysis Of Copper, Lead And Cadmium, Donald Paul Jepson Jan 1973

Polarographic Trace Analysis Of Copper, Lead And Cadmium, Donald Paul Jepson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The area of study for this project was the development of an accurate, reliable, and inexpensive method of trace analysis for copper, cadmium, and lead in foods. AT this time, the Association of Official Analytical Chemists Manual, eleventh edition, (4) has only official and recognized methods of analysis for copper (25.023), cadmium (25.018), and lead (25.041). In general, these procedures are long and tedious. The digestions involved often require many hours and are quite dangerous due to leakage of metallic and organometallic fumes from the digestion apparatus. The official methods of analysis for these elements require a very large outlay …

Logical Transition From Magnetic Poles To Current Loops, H. E. Mccloud Jan 1973

Logical Transition From Magnetic Poles To Current Loops, H. E. Mccloud

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

Consideration of the relationship between the magnetic field produced by a magnetic shell and that produced by a current loop requires the evaluation of the line integral ɸH̅ • dl̅, where a portion of the path must cross the dipole layer. The correct line integral to be evaluated must be ɸB̅ • dl̅. The evaluation of this integral leads immediately to the correct Maxwell equation in ∆ x H̅. Gaussian units are used.

Grey Kangaroo Management Programme, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

The Grey Kangaroo Management Programme, introduced in 1971 by the Department of Fisheries and Fauna, is designed to ensure the long-term conservation of the grey kangaroo, while at the same time recognising the right of the landholder to protect his primary production from damage.

One of the points which has arisen after examination of the programme is that some individual farmers are not fully aware of the requirements of the regulations.

Comments on Results - New Land sites (Graphs 1, 2) - The three sites were very responsive with the point of inflexion about 600 kg/ha super rate (similar to 1972 result). The seed x super rate interaction shows the quicker response to super with higher seeding rates. Low Super Bank (800 kg/ha) (GRAPH 3) - The two sites showed very little response to super applied. On the Eradu sandplain no response to super for either Unicrop or Wheat. On the Watheroo yellow sandplain (73M015) the two lupin cultivers and the wheat gave different responses. High Super Bank (>1 OOOkg/ha) …

Mando : A Computer Program For Symbolic Manipulation Of Differential Operators Generating Continuous Transformations, David Kenneth Davison Jan 1973

Mando : A Computer Program For Symbolic Manipulation Of Differential Operators Generating Continuous Transformations, David Kenneth Davison

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The program MANDO efficiently performs computations involving pairs of operators, a single operator, and operators applied to functions, saving time and cost over pencil-·and-paper methods.

A versatile but compact data structure, defined under SPIT-BOL's facility for creation of datatypes, contains the operators (and functions) and provides a means for systematically referencing their relevant parts.

On input, functions and operators are written in a restricted but natural string format, for which the program can readily convert them to the internal data structure.

Central to the method of operation of the derivative routine is its ability to differentiate a function written as …

Absolute Differential Elastic- And Inelastic-Scattering Cross Sections In 25-140 Kev He+ + He Collisions, Victor Pol, Walter Kauppila, John T. Park

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

Data obtained as energy-loss spectra at angles from 0 to 7.3x10-3 rad (c.m.) with typical energy-loss resolution of 0.7 eV and angular resolution of 2x10-3 rad (c.m.) were used to calculate average differential cross sections dσdΩav for elastic scattering, direct excitation of the individual He(n=2) states, and direct excitation of the He+(n=2) states. The total cross section for excitation of the He(n=2) states obtained by integrating the differential cross sections was found to be 20x10-18 cm2 at 25 keV (lab) decreasing to 7x10-18 cm2 at 140 keV. At incident lab energies below 100 keV the He(2S2) and He(2P3) states dominate …

Laser Scattering Measurements Of Droplet Growth In Binary Mixtures. Ii. H2o And Argon H2o And Helium, M. A. Viettit, Burton Schuster

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

Water droplet growth rates in a Wilson cloud chamber were measured in Ar-H2O and He-H2O media. These rates were determined in the size range 0.45-10.0 u.m by detection of oscillations in the intensity of polarized light from a He-Ne laser source scattered at 30° by the droplet population. Pressure and initial temperature were measured in the chamber for use in the computation of three droplet growth theories for comparison to experiment. Experiments were conducted in supersaturations ranging from 1.04 to 3.45.

Penning Ionization Of Zn And Cd By Noble-Gas Metastable Atoms, L. A. Riseberg, William F. Parks, Laird D. Schearer Jan 1973

Penning Ionization Of Zn And Cd By Noble-Gas Metastable Atoms, L. A. Riseberg, William F. Parks, Laird D. Schearer

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

The Penning-ionization cross sections for He, Ne, Ar, and Kr metastable atoms with Zn and Cd have been measured in a pulsed afterglow. Within the framework of existing theories we have determined those parameters which are of importance in collisions of this type. We find that our data are internally consistent if the cross sections are proportional to the cube of the "hard-sphere" radii and the effects of selection rules are included. A theoretical basis for this dependence is suggested. © 1973 The American Physical Society.

A Crystalline Fragment Of The Double Helix: The Structure Of The Dinucleoside Phosphate Guanylyl-3',5'-Cytidine, Roberta Ogilvie Day, Nadrian C. Seeman, John M. Rosenberg, Alexander Rich

Chemistry Department: Faculty Publications

The sodium silt of guanylyl-3',5'-cytidine crystallizes in a monoclinic unit cell with one molecule in the asymmetric unit. Each molecule is related to another molecule by a 2-fold rotation axis which results in the formation of an antiparallel; right-handed .double helix with complementary hydrogen bonding between the guanine and cytosine residues. The crystal is heavily hydrated with 36 water molecules in the unit cell. The geometry of this crystalline double helix is. very similar to those which have been derived from studies of fiber x-ray diffraction patterns of double-stranded RNA; even though the latter do not yield data at atomic …
