Essential to the entire field of Organic Chemistry is the nature of the carbon to carbon bond. Our current concepts and guiding principles concerning it are almost solely constructed from aliphatic compounds, certain simple ring species, and aromatic systems. Except for special cases, aliphatic and aromatic types are felt to be mildly strained or free from internal tension while the alicylic small and medium ring compounds are the so-called strained molecules. These strained compounds involve bending back or compression of two of the four carbon bonds from an equilibrium position. Distortions of more complex origin occur in the paracyclophanes and …

The motivating factor for this investigation of the magnesium-hydrogen system was the recent interest in the hydride of beryllium. Although beryllium hydride has been prepared by the pyrolysis of di-t-butylberyllium, no evidence for the direct union of beryllium and hydrogen has been reported. It was thought that an examination of the reaction between magnesium and hydrogen and determination of the thermodynamic relations involved might have a bearing on this phenomenon. Also, the properties of magnesium hydride are interesting from an over-all periodic table viewpoint. The Todilto formation of New Mexico is a widespread and distinctive Jurassic unit confined to the northern one-half of the State and adjacent parts of Arizona and Colorado. It consists of a lower Limestone member and an upper Gypsum member. The Gypsum member also contains some limestone. The two members are not coextensive in area. Both are present in the central part of the area in which the formation is found, but the Limestone member extends far beyond the limits of the Gypsum member.

The hidden mountains are located in Valencia County, New Mexico, immediately southwest of the point where New Mexico State Highway 6 and the Santa Fe Railroad cross the Rio Puerco. This location places the Hidden Mountains near the center of the west half of the Albuquerque-Belen basin of structural and geomorphic Rio Grande Depression.

The area included in this report is in the north-central part of Torrance county, central New Mexico. The area is bounded on the north by U.S. Highway 66, on the east by U.S. Highway 285, on the south by U.S. Highway 60, and on the west by the approximate eastern edge of the Estancia basin. Clines Corners on U.S. Highway 66 forms the Northeast corner of the area. The mapped area contain approximately 230 square miles.

The Todilto evaporites of Upper Jurassic age were precipitated in a basin which covered more then 34,000 square miles of northwestern New Mexico and parts of Colorado and Arizona. The Todilto formation consists of a lower Limestone and an upper Gypsum member, and has a maximum thickness of a little more than 100 feet. Both members are varved.

This study concerns the diffusion of atmospheric ozone through a one dimensional region, given certain initial and boundary conditions. As shown in Figure 1 the region is bounded by the planes x= -a and x=b. The plane x=0 divides the region into two parts, Region I and Region II. The solution to this type of problem consists in giving the concentration as a function of the time for any point x in both regions. The purpose of this paper is to study other lateral distribution functions proposed by various authors, to select an alternative to the one used previously, to repeat the calculations of the required quantities using the alternative function, and to comment on the relative merits of the different choices. Since an empirical formula was used in the original work it seemed desirable to use a theoretical relation for comparison if a suitable one were available.

Three rather unrelated projects in infrared spectrophotometry were carried out by the writer. First, some effort was expended in trying to find cell windows which were suitably transparent to infrared radiation and yet water insoluable. Secondly, B, the effects of dilution on certain w-lactams was investigated to check for hydrogen bonding effects on their spectra. Thirdly, C, some trial investigations were made using a silver chloride polarizer unit recently acquired for use with the Perkin-Elmer Model 21 spectrophotometer.

Gray has criticized the calculation of the ground state multiplicity of the CH₂ fragment by the author. In answer, I would like to make two comments.
1. Regardless of the energies of ionization of a carbon atom, CH₂ may be considered as a system composed of two protons, a carbon kernel, and four electrons. The proper amount of configuration interaction should arise naturally and depend on relative energies of orbitals and overlap values. The problem of analysis of commercial and student preparations of butanol-2 from methyl ethyl ketone by gas-liquid partition chromatography is presented. The retention times of butanol-2 and methyl ethyl ketone are determined under varying conditions of temperature, flowrate, carrier gas, column packing and fixed phase concentrations. Optimum conditions are selected for the separation of butanol-2 and methyl ethyl ketone. Several methods are discussed for the quantitative interpretation of the data. A liquid is arbitrarily classed as a dielectric if its volume resistivity is 10(10) ohm-centimeters or greater. (An ohm-centimeter is the resistance between opposite faces of one cubic centimeter of the liquid.) Transformers, circuit breakers, cables, and capacitors are among the more common devices using liquid dielectrics. The purpose of this study was to find out what levels of responsibilities recent graduates of four Seventh-day Adventist basic college programs in nursing assumed during the first year following graduation; to find if these recent graduates felt adequately prepared for their positions; and to find out why they accepted their positions.

The descriptive survey method was selected for the research. The questionnaire, chosen as the means of obtaining data, was sent to the 106 nurses who graduated in 1956 of whom 82 percent responded.
