A Conceptual Framework For Understanding Contemporary Child Slavery, Cecilia Nana Derby

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis developed a conceptual framework aimed at enhancing our understanding of contemporary child slavery. A new variety of slavery exists today, the result of forms of forced servitude that existed alongside slavery many centuries ago. This is tantamount to slavery. There is, however, a critical lack of awareness about important aspects of the reality of this new child slavery. The framework and definitions of slavery in usage today, though interesting and sufficient to cover historical situations, are unable to adequately describe the conditions of the child slavery. Using existing literature and research, this thesis conceptualized children's labor in a …

The Changing Hog Industry, Allen Prosch Apr 2003

The Changing Hog Industry, Allen Prosch

Cornhusker Economics

Pork producers dodged the worst possibilities of the fourth quarter of 2002 by marketing hogs earlier in the third quarter. By November, the action rekindled a rally in Summer 2003 prices, originally started in July of 2002 on confirmation that producers were reducing the breeding herd in the U.S. Price expectations for 2003, as represented by June Lean Hog Carcass Futures contract prices, were strong through the end of 2002. Continued adequate supplies of pork stalled advances at the beginning of this year (Figure 1).

Special Collections and University Archives Finding Aids: All Items

George Kell Reid, Jr., a longtime Florida resident, inspired many students to enter the field of marine biology. For over two decades, he taught students at Florida Presbyterian College (now Eckerd College). This collection of research articles, unpublished seminar papers, and notes record Reid's strong interest in the limnology of Lake Maggiore and marine life in Boca Ciega Bay and other estuarine environments along the Pinellas peninsula. These materials, donated in March 2003 by Dr. John G. Schwede, contain no access restrictions.
