Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The right to obtain a good and healthy environment is a constitutional right of citizens expressly regulated in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. However, this right has not been fully felt due to forest and land burning activities that occur every year in Sumatra and Kalimantan. For this reason, a condition for law enforcement is needed to solve the problem. This study basically answered two questions on how important is progressive law enforcement in burning forests? What is the concept of progressive law enforcement as intended?. Therefore, the findings stated that first, progressive law enforcement on forest-burning …

Designing A Blue-Green Infrastructure (Bgi) Network: Toward Water-Sensitive Urban Growth Planning In Dhaka, Bangladesh, Sanjana Ahmed, Mahbubur Meenar, Ashraful Alam

School of Earth & Environment Departmental Research

In a warming world, urban environmental stresses are exacerbated by population-increase-induced development of grey infrastructure that usually leaves minimal scope for blue (and green) elements and processes, potentially resulting in mismanagement of stormwater and flooding issues. This paper explores how urban growth planning in the megacity of Dhaka, Bangladesh can be guided by a blue-green infrastructure (BGI) network that combines blue, green, and grey elements together to provide a multifunctional urban form. We take a three-step approach: First, we analyze the existing spatial morphology to understand potential locations of development and challenges, as well as the types of solutions necessary …

Preparing Researchers To Conduct Interdisciplinary, Multi-Method Qualitative Research, Kathryn Roulston Sep 2019

Preparing Researchers To Conduct Interdisciplinary, Multi-Method Qualitative Research, Kathryn Roulston

The Qualitative Report

In this paper I outline ideas for how qualitative research methods might be taught in ways that value difference, promote dialogue, and encourage graduates to engage actively in their disciplines to promote the benefits of qualitative inquiry, locally, nationally and globally. I argue for approaches to teach qualitative inquiry in ways that value (1) interdisciplinarity, in that teaching draws on multiple epistemologies and theoretical approaches to inquiry developed across disciplines; (2) diversity in methodological approaches, in that teaching explores multiple methods to respond to research questions that are continually subject to revision, innovation, and critical analysis; and (3) the knowledge …

Programs And Services For The Postsecondary Deaf: Strategic Planning Considerations For The 1990’S, Ken Nash Sep 2019

Programs And Services For The Postsecondary Deaf: Strategic Planning Considerations For The 1990’S, Ken Nash

JADARA

The Nineties will be a time of fundamental change. The battle cry for this change will be "diversity." Change will be driven by demographic forces and recently enacted statutes such as the Americans With Disability Act. Together, these forces will require that the postsecondary community rethink the assumptions on which it currently operates and demand that it restructure the way it does business. It is likely that more resources will be diverted to the growing portion of "low achieving deaf," a disproportionate number of whom are minority. The more selective postsecondary programs will likely suffer some degree of enrollment decline. …

One hundred deaf students completed written questionnaires administered simultaneously in sign language and spoken English. Results showed that 17% of the deaf college students surveyed reported current binge eating and that 46% of the female deaf college students over estimated their body …
