In 2005, the UN agreed on a set of seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that included goals for Life in Water (SDG 15) and Life on Land (SDG 15). While these two goals provide an opening to address animal conservation and welfare, the International Fund for Animal Welfare has argued that the inclusion of animal welfare and conservation is vital for the successful achievement of the SDGs.

Citation Rates For Ohio State Graduate Theses & Dissertations: Trends, Surprises, And Inaccuracies, Daniel S. Dotson

The Ohio State University’s holdings of graduate theses and dissertations were examined to determine if highly-downloaded titles tended to be highly-cited. The study found that citation rates were highly variable and did not necessarily correspond to download rates. This included very highly downloaded titles with low citation rates, and lesser-downloaded titles with high citation rates. The study found that Google Scholar, which was used to identify citation rates, too often counts theses and dissertations as a version of a different work with the same title, even if it is another format and sometimes with additional authors. Discursive psychology recognizes the primacy of the social and relational nature of human life. Research participants whose discourses (empirical data) we analyze do not exist independent of material and social world. In this paper, I attempt to develop an understanding of discursive analysis of social and psychological phenomena as a culturally contextualized activity in which discursive researchers analyze and interpret participants’ discourses in the light of the cultural context in which the discourses are embedded. This article is based upon the premise that there are many veteran teachers who maintain positive attitudes towards teaching throughout their careers. According to The Grant Study (Waldinger, 2015), positive attitudes towards life and work stem from close relationships and adaptive behaviours that people engage in throughout adult life. Targeting learning and socio-motivational factors can enhance the practical impact of interventions. Katz will review studies that examine the role of motivational processes in cognitive interventions and discuss how this work might inform improvements to both cognitive training and experiments designed to investigate their efficacy. Strickland-Hughes will explore the interplay of self-regulatory factors, such as self-evaluative beliefs, and stereotypes in memory strategy training for middle-aged and older adults. Wu will discuss results from a 15-week intervention with older adults engaging in frequent, varied learning of new difficult skills and the potential to strengthen cognitive skills and promote functional independence.

This research study aims to promote physical activity by encouraging stair use rather than elevators using persuasive point-of-choice prompts. The current investigation is comprised of two sub-studies: pilot testing, which we have completed; and the main study, which will be conducted in the fall. While most studies in this area use observation to count pedestrian traffic, a novel component of the current research is that we will use a pressure mat to measure stair and elevator use. Effects Of Creep Feeding And Its Interactions With Other Factors On The Performance Of Meat Goat Kids And Dams When Managed On Pasture, Emily G. Hayes, Raquel V. Lourençon, Richard Browning Jr.

Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Faculty Research

Creep feeding and its possible interactions with other influential factors (genetics, litter type, and sex) for weaning traits were studied in meat goat kids and their dams. Kids across 3 yr were creep fed (254 kids; 5 pens) or not creep fed (255 kids; 5 pens) from 30 to 90 d of age. Creep-fed kids had higher (P ≤ 0.05) preweaning average daily weight gain and weaning weights (113.1 ± 13.0 g/d; 15.0 ± 0.8 kg) than kids not creep fed (99.8 ± 13.1 g/d; 14.0 ± 0.8 kg). However, financial returns were not higher (P > 0.05) for …

We specify an equilibrium model of car ownership with private information where individuals sell and purchase new and second-hand cars over their life-cycle. This private information introduces a transaction cost, distorts the market and reduces the value of a car as a savings instrument. We estimate the model using Danish linked registry data on car ownership, income and wealth. The transaction cost, which we term the lemons penalty, is estimated to be 18% of the price in the first year of ownership, declining with the length of ownership.
