Ensuring Responsible And Transparent Use Of Generative Ai In Extension, Paul A. Hill, Lendel K. Narine
Ensuring Responsible And Transparent Use Of Generative Ai In Extension, Paul A. Hill, Lendel K. Narine
The Journal of Extension
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems capable of generating human-like text, images, and ideas from existing data based on user-defined prompts, will inevitably impact Extension, including increasing efficiency, productivity, and performing tasks previously exclusive to humans. There are ethical and risk-related considerations surrounding the use of generative AI, including concerns about bias and unintended consequences. It is important for Extension to consider these implications and take steps to ensure that generative AI is used in a responsible and transparent manner. Extension must ensure that educators and staff have the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively utilize and integrate this technology.

U.S. Parents' Intentions To Use Anti-Bullying Apps: Insights From A Comprehensive Model, Brittany Wheeler, Katie Baumel, Deborah Hall, Yasin Silva
Computer Science: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Cyberbullying has become a prominent risk for youth and an increasing concern for parents. To help parents reduce their child's cyberbullying risk, anti-bullying apps (ABAs)—mobile applications for identifying and preventing instances of cyberbullying—have been developed in recent years. Given that ABAs are an emerging technology, limited research has been conducted to understand the factors predicting parents' intentions to use them. Drawing on three interdisciplinary theoretical frameworks, a sample of parents in the U.S. recruited through Amazon Mechanical Turk completed an online survey to assess parents' knowledge of, attitudes about, and intentions to use ABAs. Participants also rated the importance of …
Mitigating Sex Trafficking: Preventative Methods For Reducing Sexual Exploitation, Autumn Rain Monroe
Mitigating Sex Trafficking: Preventative Methods For Reducing Sexual Exploitation, Autumn Rain Monroe
University Honors Theses
In recent years, sex trafficking has become more well-known in the public sphere, generating activism and legislation in an effort to combat this human rights issue. With this increased awareness comes challenges in appropriately understanding sex trafficking. The general public and even lawmakers often do not understand the complete dynamic or complexities of sex trafficking. Definitional inconsistencies make it difficult to provide a universal definition of sex trafficking, contributing to misconceptions involving the methods of entry and the barriers to exiting. Ultimately, this prevents proper identification of victims, hinders the protection of victims, and the implementation of survivor-oriented legislation, meaning …

After The Disaster Guidebook: Designing A Post-Disaster Communication Intervention For Rural Landowners, Channing Bice, Susan Carter
The Journal of Extension
Extension is well-positioned to facilitate communication strategies that foster community resilience and disaster recovery, particularly for rural residents. This paper proposes a new approach to post-disaster communication that strengthens rural community capacities in locally and culturally relevant ways. The findings revealed specific post-disaster information needs, preferences for local resources, and communication that encourages resilience through a document analysis and interviews with informants recovering from the 2020 Colorado wildfires. The practical recommendations discussed serve as a starting point for Extension professionals in other areas to consider ways to engage with their communities before, during, and after a disaster.

From Pan-Arab Nationalism To Islamism: The Rise And Fall Of Saddam Hussein, Inanna Adam

Arab nationalism was the core of the Ba’ath party’s ideology when it was formed in Iraq in 1968. The party subscribed to a secular nationalist ideology that aimed to unify the Arab nations across the Middle East. When Saddam Hussein came to power in Iraq in 1979, he embraced and supported the Ba’athist nationalist, socialist, and secular ideology. However, from the early days of his presidency, Hussein used religion to justify his external war of aggression against Iran, and gradually, religion became an instrument of political and military mobilization. In other words, while formally subscribing primarily to pan-Arab secular nationalism, …

The Role Of Value Congruence On Millennial Employee Organizational Commitment, Victoria Henry Weatherbee
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Recent studies have indicated that employee value congruence may influence the overall organizational commitment of a workforce. Despite the current research, there remains a gap in understanding how the Millennial generation of employees may compare to other generations in the values they hold. As the Millennial generation of employees continues to grow into the biggest working population, older workers are beginning to leave the organizations. This transition combined with the evolution of cultural norms and an ever-increasing workforce across nations are requiring organizational leaders to reexamine how to retain Millennial employees in a meaningful way. While studies have focused on …

The Impact Of The Fall On Behavior, Intellect, And Emotion, Robert Monte Nelson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this research is to explore theological doctrines surrounding the Fall and to examine the impact of the Fall on human behavior, intellect, and emotion. This research maintains that the Fall of Adam led to the corruption of the volition, intellect, and emotions of Adam and Eve, who were created in the image of a perfect and holy God, without sin, and argues that humanity’s fallen condition impacts human emotions; however, they are distinct from divine emotions and are not an aspect of the imago Dei. Therefore, this dissertation will explore the meaning of the imago Dei, the …

What are the causes of restrictions on religious freedom? What are the forms of discrimination? The purpose of this article is to connect the theories and findings of two religious discrimination studies of IR via …

U.S. Trade And Investment Restrictions: Laudable But Costly Goals, Christine Mcdaniel
Yeutter Institute International Trade Policy Review
U.S. Commerce Secretary Raimondo’s recent visit to China resulted in the announcement of a new “export control enforcement information exchange” between the United States and China. The laudable goal is to prevent China from using U.S. technology for military purposes against the United States or our allies. An information exchange may be a way to explain things to each other, but the fact remains that the export controls are indeed in place. China represents large revenue streams for three of the largest US chip producers—about 20% for Nvidia, 60% for Qualcomm, and 20-30% for Intel. If these U.S. companies cannot …

Lack Of School Choice And The Mental Health Of Rural Parents: A Phenomenological Study, Lisa Deforest Holland
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the experiences of parents whose children have limited educational options in rural North Carolina. The theory chosen to guide this study was choice theory, founded by William Glasser, as it explains that all behavior including reactions to others’ choices, and the body’s reaction to stress are chosen by the individual (Glasser, 2001). Additionally, choice theory recognizes the basic needs of survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun, and their impact on behavior which Maslow identified in his hierarchy of needs model (Glasser Institute for Choice Theory, n.d.). Parents want to …
