Early Response To False Claims In Wikipedia, 15 Years Later, P.D. Magnus

Fifteen years ago, I conducted a small study testing the error-correction tendency of Wikipedia. Not only is Wikipedia different now than it was then, the community that maintains it is different. Despite the crudity of that study’s methods, it is natural to wonder what the result would be now. So I repeated the earlier study and found surprisingly similar results.

Stimuli such as surprised faces are ambiguous in that they are associated with both positive and negative outcomes. Interestingly, people differ reliably in whether they evaluate these and other ambiguous stimuli as positive or negative, and we have argued that a positive evaluation relies in part on a biasing of the appraisal processes via reappraisal. To further test this idea, we conducted two studies to evaluate whether increasing the cognitive accessibility of reappraisal through a brief emotion regulation task would lead to an increase in positive evaluations of ambiguity. Despite the existence of many studies on language learning strategies (LLS), little scholarly work reports the LLS used by faculty members in learning English, with most participants of previous studies being students. Further, most of those previous studies have been conducted using exclusively quantitative methods. In response to these empirical and methodological gaps, the current qualitative descriptive case study investigates how Indonesian lecturers employed their strategies over their path of enhancing their English proficiency. We collected data through semi-structured interviews obtained from eight Indonesian faculty members. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of constant time delay (CTD) in a small group teaching arrangement implemented in distance learning on teaching identifying the names of numbers with two digits. A multiple probe design across subjects was used to assess the effect of CTD. Participants of the study were four elementary school students with intellectual disabilities. Maintenance and acquisition of non-target skills through observational learning was assessed. Results showed that all students acquired and maintained the target skills. Data of observational learning showed that students acquired some of the non-target skills.

Sex workers may show extreme sensitivity to power relations during qualitative research due to the previous experiences of stigmatization and marginalization. The purpose of this article is to analyze how technologically mediated communication between researchers and participants during an interview may influence the scope of control exercised by the interactional partners. During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, I conducted 16 qualitative phone and videoconference interviews with female sex workers in Poland discussing the social stigmas they encounter. (1) Background: Severe weather events have impacted over 100 million Americans in the past two years, highlighting the importance of individual disaster preparedness in building community resilience. This study aims to investigate the factors influencing individuals’ perceived disaster resiliency and preparedness in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

(2) Methods: Data were collected from 846 respondents using the Communities Advancing Resilience Toolkit (CART) Assessment Survey instrument. The study employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to explore the association between disaster preparedness and community resilience.

The contemporary information landscape has produced numerous incidents of researchers having their research misunderstood, misrepresented, or misappropriated—or worse, being subjected to intimidation and harassment—by individuals or groups who seek to cherry-pick evidence in support of ideological agendas or who wish to suppress evidence that counters those same agendas. Differential response (DR) has been widely adopted in over 30 states to address shortcomings of the traditional approach to child maltreatment reports in complex family and case circumstances. However, despite continued evaluation efforts, evidence of the effectiveness of DR remains inconclusive. The current study aims to assess the impact of a DR program and potential predictors, including service match and number of family case workers, on maltreatment re-reports in a Midwestern state. How do working class candidates perform in primary elections? Working class candidates rarely emerge, but existing evidence suggests workers perform as well as white-collar candidates once on the ballot. However, this evidence comes from studies of general elections. It is unknown whether these findings extend to other types of elections like primaries, where candidates compete without the political and financial backing of a party. We collect and analyze novel data describing the occupational background of all candidates who competed in U.S. House primaries between 2008 and 2016. What opportunities and challenges arise when an equity-focused educational organization aims to support employee’s individual equity practices while simultaneously developing the organization’s equity practice? In this study, employees of a non-profit educational organization were asked what rationales and expectations played a role in their decision to volunteer in an equity working group. Their responses were used to understand whether Perry’s (2000) process theory of Public Service Motivation helped describe their decision. Business leaders reported stronger local results in the last St. Cloud Quarterly Business Survey. 31% said their business activity expanded over the summer, while 24% said it had declined. Hiring improved, with continuing strength in wages paid, capital spending and prices received for products. The future outlook is much murkier, with 41% saying their business activity would expand over the next six months while 28% it would decline. Four of the six elements of the St. Cloud Index of Leading Economic Indicators rose in the May-July 2023 period while two others declined. Cerro is an unincorporated community in Taos County, New Mexico, and is situated near New Mexico State Highway 522 heading north to the Colorado border. Nearby is Cerro de Guadalupe, a peak that has an elevation of 8,796 feet and Cerro at 7,490 feet. The connection to Guadalupe Mountain gave the town its original name as “La Plaza del Cerro de Guadalupe.” Cerro was established in the early 1850s by settlers who arrived from nearby Questa and Taos. By itself, Guadalupe Mountain did not provide sufficient water to sustain an agrarian economy based on farming and livestock ranching as was …

The article is devoted the portrait phenomenon, its study in literary studies, the issues of its illumination in words (ekphrasis), the writer's image style, etc. Also, the phenomenon of portrait-ekphrasis, descriptive and explanatory descriptions of portraits, ekphrastic expressions in portraits are studied. Portrait-ekphrasis are analyzed on the example of French writer Amin Maalouf's work "Samarcande" and its Uzbek translation, Germaine de Staal's "Corinne ou l’Italie" and its Russian translation. Through the examples presented in these works, it is scientifically proved that the features of portrait-ekphrasis are expressed through various comparative phraseologisms, similes, metaphors, stable combinations, expressions and language units.

Over large areas, land cover classification has conventionally been undertaken using satellite time series. Typically temporal metric percentiles derived from single pixel location time series have been used to take advantage of spectral differences among land cover classes over time and to minimize the impact of missing observations. Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have demonstrated potential for land cover classification of single date images. However, over large areas and using time series their application is complicated because they are sensitive to missing observations and they may misclassify small and spatially fragmented surface features due to their spatial patch-based implementation. In this Keynote speech, Aaron argues that ChatGPT or similar large language models alone is not sufficient for information retrieval.
