ABSTRACT
The academic library that failed to reskill members of its workforce might face consequences of automatic loss of patrons. Based on this, the study examined reskilling librarians as a panacea for bringing students back to the library. 191 academic and research librarians (ARL) on the telegram group platform as of February 14, 2023, formed the population. An Online questionnaire was prepared and sent to the ARLs’ on their group chat. 122 ARLs filled the questionnaire out of the 191 thus having a response rate of 63.9%. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the data. The study revealed the need …
Get Off The Fence, Craig Kellogg
Get Off The Fence, Craig Kellogg
Doctor of Strategic Leadership (DSL) Capstone Abstracts
Experiences are a powerful influence on future decisions. A person can learn from an experience and correct or change their behavior based on their experience. Others may not exercise insight from an experience and repeat behavior which may lead to more devastating experiences. Get Off the Fence is a book about a personal experience of surrendering to God through a journey of poor decisions and choices. The devious weapons of the enemy, such as pride, shame, and selfishness, penetrate a life rooted in Christ, and the results from these attacks lead to severe consequences threatening relationships, freedom, and life. GOF …

Aotearoa New Zealand, The Forcible Transfer Of Tamariki And Rangatahi Māori, And The Royal Commission On Abuse In Care, David B. Macdonald
Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal
This article investigates to what extent the forcible transfer of tamariki and rangatahi Māori (Indigenous children and youth) in Aotearoa New Zealand can be considered genocide. First, I begin by exploring contemporary genocide theory as it relates to dolus eventualis in settler colonial contexts, before engaging with precedents for recognizing Indigenous genocides established by truth commissions in Canada (2015; 2019) and Australia (1997). I then explore the history around Indigenous child removal in Aotearoa from the onset of colonization to the present day, attentive to ways in which the UN Convention can apply to the forced removal of Māori children. …

Book Review Of The Nutmeg's Curse: Parables For A Planet In Crisis By Amitav Ghosh, Cynthia Twyford Fowler
Book Review Of The Nutmeg's Curse: Parables For A Planet In Crisis By Amitav Ghosh, Cynthia Twyford Fowler
Faculty Scholarship
Amitav Ghosh, a celebrated author of fiction and nonfiction, earned a doctorate in social anthropology from Oxford. In this iteration of his nonfiction oeuvre, Ghosh’s mapping of the historical entanglement of human rights abuses and environmental exploitation is framed upon the pillars of postcolonialism and posthumanism. Many of the processes he writes about in his acclaimed book The Nutmeg’s Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis overlap with the interests of Human Ecology readers. Chapters 4 “Terraforming,” 5 “We Shall be Gone Shortly,” and 6 “Bonds of Earth” may feel familiar to students of environmental histories and aficionados of Alfred …

How Do Pedestrians Perceive The Safety, Comfort, And Usefulness Of A Walking Space? An Exploratory Study Of Pedestrian Perception, Amanda Rifqa Marisa, Achmad Hery Fuad
Smart City
Car-oriented development has brought several negative impacts on human quality of life. Therefore, it is necessary to pay more attention to walkability as one of the essential aspects of it, especially in the urban area. In the meantime, most research on walking and walkability still overlooks the role of the pedestrian's perspective in examining walkability. Hence, this research tries to fill the gap in walkability research by exploring the pedestrian perspectives on the safety, comfort, and usefulness of walking space as the three overlapping aspects between walkability and walking needs. This research took context in Suryakencana, Bogor City, Indonesia. To …

Revealing The Invisible Cage: Understanding Coercive Control Through The Eyes Of Survivors In The Era Of Covid-19, Chloë Elizabeth Eidlitz
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Coercive control (CC) is a pervasive, systematic pattern of behaviors used by an intimate partner to exert power over, manipulate, intimidate, control, and undermine a victim’s ability to leave the relationship. Compared to intimate partner violence (IPV) involving physical violence alone, abusive relationships marked by CC are linked with more long-lasting psychological consequences and an increased risk for more severe physical injuries, including domestic homicide. Dutton and Goodman (2005) created a theoretical model outlining distinct and interrelated components involved in the development and maintenance of coercively controlling relationships. In this qualitative study, I investigated whether components of this model reflect …
Using Predictive Validity To Compare Associations Between Brain Damage And Behavior, John F Magnotti, Jaclyn S Patterson, Tatiana T Schnur
Using Predictive Validity To Compare Associations Between Brain Damage And Behavior, John F Magnotti, Jaclyn S Patterson, Tatiana T Schnur
Student and Faculty Publications
Lesion-behavior mapping (LBM) provides a statistical map of the association between voxel-wise brain damage and individual differences in behavior. To understand whether two behaviors are mediated by damage to distinct regions, researchers often compare LBM weight outputs by either the Overlap method or the Correlation method. However, these methods lack statistical criteria to determine whether two LBM are distinct versus the same and are disconnected from a major goal of LBMs: predicting behavior from brain damage. Without such criteria, researchers may draw conclusions from numeric differences between LBMs that are irrelevant to predicting behavior. We developed and validated a predictive …

Oral Information Documentation In The 21st Century Information And Services, Ugonna Vivian Ailakhu
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
History is a body of knowledge derived from the past lives of a society or an individual. The documentation of oral information in the 21st century without doubt is essential. Oral information is transferred from one individual to another verbally and as such there is need to document these information based on their importance. There are different types of oral information passed within a society and this information contains various values such as religious, social, historical, indigenous knowledge and culture of a community as well as genealogy of a community or family.
Oral information are received, developed, and shared …
Economics Or Culture? Measuring Economic Thinking And Cultural Enrichment Beliefs About Immigration., Paolo Aldrin Palma
Economics Or Culture? Measuring Economic Thinking And Cultural Enrichment Beliefs About Immigration., Paolo Aldrin Palma
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
The present work attempts to distinguish people’s economic concerns about immigration from their (anti-)diversity attitudes, and examines how these economic concerns influence attitudes towards immigrants. To do this, we develop a scale to assess economic thinking and cultural enrichment beliefs about immigration (ETI/CBI). Economic thinking was associated with personality and ideological traits related to viewing the world as competitive and anti-diversity attitudes. Cultural enrichment beliefs on the other hand, were associated with traits associated with a preference for equity and pro-diversity orientations. Furthermore, economic thinking was associated with greater preferences to reduce immigration for all migrant groups except economic migrants, …
Effects Of Physical Exercise On Cognitive Performance, Arina Bratamidjaja
Effects Of Physical Exercise On Cognitive Performance, Arina Bratamidjaja
Student Academic Conference
The effects of physical exercise on cognitive performance were examined in this study. Thirty-eight students of Minnesota State University Moorhead (18-24 years old), from low-level psychology classes, completed a physical exercise questionnaire to determine their exercise group (less exercise or more exercise). Participants also completed a set of 30 questions adapted from the Wonderlic Personnel Test to determine their current cognitive performance score. The current cumulative GPA of participants was also collected. It was predicted that participants with more physical exercise participation would earn higher scores on the cognitive performance test compared to participants with lower participation. Furthermore, participants with …

Although meta-leadership was originally a framework used to examine healthcare leadership in crisis, it is also a valuable framework for educational leadership. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused school leaders to endure a crucible of fire in every area, such as balancing children’s safety with losses to education quality. The action plans of educators are frequently in flux as the pandemic evolves and unfolds. The continuation of this crisis has led to uncertainty, and at times, chaos.
This study examines how meta-leadership, with emphasis on connectivity, has been applied by educational leadership in American high schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. 2020 …

As the world and organizations struggled to overcome the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, I, the Founder and CEO of Plant A Seed, also known as Plant a Seed Africa, used this chaotic period to assess and address issues facing the organization. Multiple challenges are addressed, including the pandemic, financial, political, and leadership. I created a new leadership strategy that switches between pacesetting, visionary, and transformational leadership styles. The new organizational change model will use the 5-F or Plant A Seed 5-F model.

Leading And Mentoring Women In Stem: Mitigating Gender & Microaggressions, Lilicia Bailey, April Curry
The Scholarship Without Borders Journal
Microaggressions, behaviors that can be nonverbal or verbal, can occur when individuals “communicate negative, hostile, and derogatory messages to people rooted in their marginalized group membership (based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality).” This statistic, according to the Institutional Transformation program at the University of New Hampshire,1 is in alignment with what researchers indicate regarding microaggressions, asserting that they can be “intentional or unintentional” can occur daily, and are unacknowledged (Making the Invisible Visible: Gender Based Microaggressions, n.d.).
We consider the various types of microaggressions, specifically those based on gender, and assess the effect it has on women in leadership …

Women have encountered many obstacles in their quest to gain leadership in law enforcement. While research has studied how well women officers strive to achieve higher-level positions within police departments, the challenges women face when they gain top leadership roles remain largely unexplored. This research paper will discuss the unique challenges faced by women police chiefs, drawing from first-hand experiences of women police chiefs and existing literature. The study finds that women police chiefs encounter challenges in communication, transferring to a new department, overtasking, introvertedness, and general police chief stress. The study also finds that women police chiefs implement ways …

Year after year, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing receives a significant number of applicants from those who want to teach in the State of California. Focusing on one of the critical concerns of low student performance and academic achievement begins with identifying potential problems within the education system, such as a lack of quality or best-fit educators in California. Becoming a teacher in the State of California has demonstrated many areas where the credentialing criterion may contain the answers to achieving higher standards and expectations from our youths in California. Incorporating subject-matter exams onto the list of teacher credentialing criteria …
