This thesis looks at sensory-specific art mediums with children with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties (SEBD), interact with sensory-specific art mediums through the expressive therapies continuum (ETC) framework. This thesis acknowledges and explores how trauma and adverse childhood experiences impact a child’s cognitive and developmental capabilities and their role in how individuals engage with and process their art. This thesis is based on qualitative, arts-based research. Data was collected via note-taking, self-reflective journaling, and self-engagement of sensory-based art responses. This paper addresses the history, theory, and practices in relational-cultural therapy (RCT), mindfulness, and phototherapy, the theoretical and philosophical foundations upon which I developed a method integrating related practices and approaches. The method combined relational cultural mindfulness, mindful photography, and phototherapy for promoting stress reduction and well-being in Mexican mothers of children with developmental disabilities. The objective of this project is to utilize the UCI Heart Disease dataset to identify physiological biomarkers that are highly correlated with heart disease incidence. A predictive model can then be developed using these biomarkers to estimate the likelihood of someone having or developing a heart-related condition. This study compares the efficacy of predicting cardiovascular disease as an outcome using three machine learning algorithms: Support Vector Machine, Gaussian Naive Bayes, and logistic regression. The current study examined the effects of specific COVID-19 stressors (i.e., family member’s death due to COVID-19, COVID-19 infection, and school/financial stressors) on stress, anxiety, and depression and the potential buffering roles of resilience and perceived social support in the association between COVID-19 stressors and psychological symptoms in a Hispanic university student sample (n = 664).
