The survey reviewed responses from each AIKCU …
Agreement Of Psychiatric Diagnoses Within And Between Groups Of Mental Health Clinicians From Different Disciplines, Wade Mcguire
Agreement Of Psychiatric Diagnoses Within And Between Groups Of Mental Health Clinicians From Different Disciplines, Wade Mcguire
Dissertations
The development of therapy as a treatment option for mental health problems has led to the creation of different disciplines. Each discipline has developed its own conceptualization of classification and treatment of mental health problems. These conceptualizations have led to different areas of focus for each of the disciplines, specifically counseling, psychology, and social work. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether these areas of focus influence how each discipline diagnoses. For this study, data was collected by having clinicians provide diagnoses for three fictitious clients. The vignettes for the clients were taken from a psychopathology textbook to …
An Improvement Science Approach To Understanding Adaptive Leadership As A Tool For Diabetes Educators To Teach Patient Self-Efficacy, Allie Carter
Dissertations
Background: Worldwide diabetes is estimated at 415 million, and that number is expected to increase to 642 million by 2040 (Roberts et al., 2017). Certified Diabetes Care and Educational Specialists (CDCES) and other health care providers strive to teach patients with diabetes skills that assist them in developing and maintaining self-efficacy. Current education methods are not always enough to help a patient navigate effects of their diabetes. Using the adaptive leadership principles can provide educators an interventional practice that facilitates patient self-management. This study explores the effectiveness of adaptive leadership when applied to the diabetes education delivery and confirms the …
Relationship Between Consumer Confidence Index And Leading Sectors In Turkey, Erhan Aslanoğlu, Yasin Enes Aksu, Jonberk Okan
Relationship Between Consumer Confidence Index And Leading Sectors In Turkey, Erhan Aslanoğlu, Yasin Enes Aksu, Jonberk Okan
Topics in Middle Eastern and North African Economies
As a leading indicator, the ability to measure the predictive power of consumer surveys are very important for economic policy makers, especially to capture a forward-looking perspective on consumer trends. Trends in leading sectors such as real estate, automobile and consumer electronics are expected to signal direction of consumption demand in an economy. Within this framework, whether the consumer confidence signals the trends in leading sectors or the trend in leading sectors effect the consumer sentiment are vital questions to detect the dynamics of domestic demand. Macroeconomic cycles like high and volatile inflationary environments might create counter effect to determine …
Interaction Between Monetary And Fiscal Policies: Evidence From Egypt, Mouchera Karara, Mona Fayed, Heidi Aly
Interaction Between Monetary And Fiscal Policies: Evidence From Egypt, Mouchera Karara, Mona Fayed, Heidi Aly
Topics in Middle Eastern and North African Economies
Surviving the COVID-19 crisis would not have been possible without the unprecedented support measures implemented worldwide. Monetary and fiscal policy tools had to be used aggressively and innovatively to withstand the adverse impact of the crisis in 2020. In order to effectively design policy interventions to achieve the desired targets while accounting for potential trade-offs, an understanding of the interaction between monetary and fiscal policies becomes a prerequisite. The changing global and local economic conditions call for rigorous and continuous research on the topic to guide policy makers in navigating through the critical times ahead of the Egyptian economy and …
The Impacts Of Cumulative Tariff Rates On Global Value Chains, Halit Yanıkkaya, Pınar Tat, Abdullah Altun
The Impacts Of Cumulative Tariff Rates On Global Value Chains, Halit Yanıkkaya, Pınar Tat, Abdullah Altun
Topics in Middle Eastern and North African Economies
This study analyzes the impacts of tariffs on global value chain participation by employing value-added trade statistics and the idea of cumulative tariff rates for 12 sectors from 168 countries over the years 1990 to 2015. The main finding is that both market access and input tariff rates have significant negative impacts on sectoral global value chain participation. The effect is persistent in the analysis we employ cumulative tariff rates. Apart from these policy determinants, sector and country-level endowments such as higher relative length, capital intensity, FDI stock, and education level appear as major drivers for higher total, forward, and …
Regime-Dependent Financial Risk Transmission And Connectedness In Mena Economies: A Smooth Transition Threshold Vector Autoregressive Analysis, Mehmet Balcilar, Ojonugwa Usman
Regime-Dependent Financial Risk Transmission And Connectedness In Mena Economies: A Smooth Transition Threshold Vector Autoregressive Analysis, Mehmet Balcilar, Ojonugwa Usman
Topics in Middle Eastern and North African Economies
This study examines the impact of global financial market conditions on risk connectedness and transmission among MENA economies. Using weekly stock market volatilities and a smooth transition threshold vector autoregressive model, the authors analyze risk transmission under varying financial stress levels. Results show stronger risk interdependency during high-stress periods, with Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE as net risk transmitters. The regime-dependent model reveals stronger risk transmission compared to the overall mean-based VAR model.
The Effect Of Innovation On Employment In Turkiye, Hakki Kutay Bolkol, Ece Handan Guleryuz
The Effect Of Innovation On Employment In Turkiye, Hakki Kutay Bolkol, Ece Handan Guleryuz
Topics in Middle Eastern and North African Economies
In this paper, we examine the impact of innovation on employment in the Turkish labor market between 1991 and 2021 by using monthly patent grants and annual R&D expenditure statistics. We employ ARDL (autoregressive distributed lag) approach to carry out the empirical analysis. Our results differ mainly depending on the analyzed time period and analyzing innovation with two different proxies that give the same result, which is an indication of the robustness of the results. When the long-run model and the short-run model are analyzed separately, it is found that while the effect of innovation on employment is negative in …
Urban Insecurity And Security Expenditures In Turkiye, Gulay Gunluk-Senesen, Yasin Kutuk
Urban Insecurity And Security Expenditures In Turkiye, Gulay Gunluk-Senesen, Yasin Kutuk
Topics in Middle Eastern and North African Economies
The majority of the world's population now lives in urban areas, making cities targets of warfare and areas of insecurity in recent years. This has led to a growing interest in urban security and a shift towards the militarization of traditional police forces. However, the relationship between urban security and securitization is not well understood in the literature, and research on the implications of public resource allocation is limited. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of public security spending in reducing insecurity in urban areas in Turkey, against the backdrop of increased securitization in the 2000s. The study uses …

The Impact Of Financial Development On The Attractiveness Of Foreign Direct Investment In The Mena Region, Trojette Ines, Nestor Odjoumani
The Impact Of Financial Development On The Attractiveness Of Foreign Direct Investment In The Mena Region, Trojette Ines, Nestor Odjoumani
Topics in Middle Eastern and North African Economies
This paper analyzes the role of the quality of governance on financial development to create favorable conditions to attract FDI in the MRNA region. Using a panel data and GMM method from 1985 to 2021, results show that the banking development variables (credit to the private sector) and capital account openness improve the attractiveness of FDI inflows. This effect is higher for countries above the governance threshold. However, the effects of the stock market variables (stock market value traded and capitalization) are significant and positive only in the developed group beyond a certain level of governance. Besides, the impacts of …

Washington Semester Program
This research paper seeks to explore the relationship between professional political actors and the subject of racism in primary education curricula, specifically in areas with prominent anti-CRT movements. Synthesizing these ideas together, the fully formed research question guiding the development of this paper reads as follows: how does the lobbying industry impact the development of primary education curricula in the United States on the subjects of race and racism, specifically in reference to anti-CRT activism? The extant literature on topics of racism, the institution of lobbying, and primary education in America, led to the development of the following thesis …
Alfred Russel Wallace Notes 26: Confessions Of A 'Wallace Enthusiast', Charles H. Smith
Alfred Russel Wallace Notes 26: Confessions Of A 'Wallace Enthusiast', Charles H. Smith
Faculty/Staff Personal Papers
The author’s longstanding interest in the life and thought of Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913) is profiled in three ways, through: (1) a brief factual review of its history (2) a discussion of some problems with the way Wallace has been treated over the years, and (3) a consideration of the author’s personal experience with the paranormal, and how this has made him, if not always a full believer, more patient with divergent explanations of the type Wallace was famous for.
Program Evaluation: Utilizing Health Department’S Community Health Needs Assessment Data To Improve Emergency Preparedness Plans, Kathleen Gottschalk
Program Evaluation: Utilizing Health Department’S Community Health Needs Assessment Data To Improve Emergency Preparedness Plans, Kathleen Gottschalk
Capstone Experience
Public health officials conducting emergency response plans must know how to easily identify the vulnerable populations in their community or jurisdiction. It is beneficial for access and functional needs appendices to include information and resources directed at the identified vulnerable groups before an emergency event to improve health outcomes. Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) can provide population-level statistics and information needed to easily identify vulnerable or at-risk groups. This report aims to evaluate the use of the CHNA data to guide the development of inclusive emergency response plans that account for vulnerable populations in local health department jurisdictions. The 2021 …
Fdi And Environmental Externalities In Southeast Asia, Kevin Bloodworth
Fdi And Environmental Externalities In Southeast Asia, Kevin Bloodworth
Undergraduate Honors Theses
In this paper I explore the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and deforestation in Cambodia. Through an event study framework, I show that economic land concessions have a negative relationship with tree cover, over time, having stronger and stronger negative effects. This relationship is more pronounced in foreign economic land concessions when compared to domestic economic land concessions. Through the use of a difference in differences research design I examine the relationship between foreign and domestic concessions through the implementation of a ELC concession ban. The ban only led to worsening levels of deforestation within the borders of foreign …
France's Compliance Of The International Convention On The Elimination Of All Forms Of Racial Discrimination: French Universalism Versus Group Rights, Alex Earls
Undergraduate Honors Theses
There exists a constant battle between universalism and anti-racism in France, where universalism is positioned as the predominant force of western values and anti-racism as a dog-whistle for ‘wokeness’. This thesis will position that France is predisposed to incomplete compliance with the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) in part due to its rooted concept of French universalism and the nationalistic undertones therein that do not tolerate intermediate identifications between the individual and the Republic. The purpose of this argument is to generate an interpretive tool to observe and analyze France’s relatively weak civil …
Black Autonomy As A Form Of Resistance And A Symbol Of Rebellion: A Comparative Study Of Robbins, Illinois, And Milwaukee Bronzeville (1920-1970), Nateya Taylor
Theses and Dissertations
Black towns and segregated Black neighborhoods are two examples of majority Black communities that were formed because of the racial discrimination African Americans faced. Previous research has examined majority Black communities from a deficit model; however, this paper highlights the assets of autonomy and resistance in two majority Black communities in the Midwest: Robbins, Illinois, and Milwaukee Bronzeville. This paper compares Robbins, Illinois, a Black town, and Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood, a segregated Black community, to answer the questions: How did African Americans in Robbins, Illinois, and Milwaukee Bronzeville use autonomous practices to navigate racial discrimination between 1920 and 1970? What …

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Sun Street Centers in King City is a non-profit organization that offers a residential treatment program for men and women experiencing addiction. Their mission is to prevent alcohol and drug addiction by providing resources to individuals and families despite their income level. The main issue was that Spanish-speaking clients and clients that are non-residents of Monterey County were in need of resources to guide them during their recovery process. The idea for this project is to provide resources to all residential clients in both English and Spanish and also offer them to clients who are non-residents of Monterey County. The …
Lack Of Women In Government In The Mena Region, Emma Cummings
Lack Of Women In Government In The Mena Region, Emma Cummings
Ballard Brief
Only 24.3% of parliament seats globally are held by women, and an even lower 10.4% of parliament seats in the MENA region are held by women. With proper representation in government positions, it can be easier to further political positions such as human rights, education, and the overall development of a country. This is due in part to some of the top government positions in the family, social welfare, and gender equality areas being held by women. There is a lack in the MENA region due to popular social perception, the lack of education and experience, and limited support for …
Impacts Of Climate Change In The United States, Nathan Thompson
Impacts Of Climate Change In The United States, Nathan Thompson
Ballard Brief
While every country both contributes to and feels the effects of climate change, the United States' heavy influence and high rates of contribution make this problem even more acute domestically. Climate change is primarily driven by human emission of greenhouse gases through the burning of fossil fuels and from mass-scale agriculture. Because climate change can be a polarizing issue, passing legislation to slow the harmful contributing factors has proven difficult. The effects of climate change have worsened in the past few decades, with increased instances of wildfires and extreme shifts in weather patterns. These negative consequences disproportionately affect vulnerable people …
Pornography Use Among Young Adults In The United States, Samantha Smith, Jamie Lesueur
Pornography Use Among Young Adults In The United States, Samantha Smith, Jamie Lesueur
Ballard Brief
Pornography exists in many forms across the internet including pictures, videos, audio, written materials, video games, and social media posts. A majority of the US population has intentionally viewed pornography before, with an even larger majority of US young adults viewing pornography regularly. Despite the widespread use of and support for pornography, viewing sexually explicit media can have many negative consequences. For example, pornography use has been shown to correlate with decreased sex-life satisfaction, lack of positive self-image, and increased chances of divorce. Research also shows that both pornography viewers and pornography actors are likely to experience emotional health consequences. …
The Underreporting And Dismissal Of Sexual Assault Cases Against Women In The United States, Jacey Passmore
The Underreporting And Dismissal Of Sexual Assault Cases Against Women In The United States, Jacey Passmore
Ballard Brief
Sexual assault is a highly prevalent yet rarely addressed issue within the United States. It is considered the most underreported and dismissed crime. There are a plethora of variables contributing to the underreporting and dismissal of sexual assault cases. The most prevalent factor appears to be the various understandings of sexual assault. The United States has no standard definition of rape or consent due to rape myths, victim blaming, disproportionately high perceptions of baseless allegations, and high-profile cases that are unrepresentative of the more common details of sexual assault. Other major contributing factors include knowing the perpetrator, victims’ pre-existing and …

Young Adult Well-Being After Childhood Maltreatment Experiences, Katherine Fahrenthold
Social Work Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s), attachment style, and well-being in transition-age youth. The study sought to address two questions; is the attachment style of young adults who have experienced maltreatment associated with well-being and overall adjustment in the transition to adulthood? What is the lived experience of young adults who have experienced child maltreatment as they transition to adulthood? An online survey containing questions about demographics, 3 validated measures (the ACE questionnaire, Revised Adult Attachment Scale, and the Mental Health Continuum Short Form), and expanded ACE item questions was administered …
Phenomenological Qualitative Program Evaluation Of Goat Yoga For Cultivating Joy And Positively Shifting Perspective, Teri Relyea Berbel
Phenomenological Qualitative Program Evaluation Of Goat Yoga For Cultivating Joy And Positively Shifting Perspective, Teri Relyea Berbel
Social Work Theses
There is increasing evidence that animal-assisted interventions are helpful for mental wellbeing in reducing anxiety and depression. There is also a large body of research supporting the benefits of yoga for symptoms of trauma. However, there can be resistance to participating in yoga interventions because of insecurity or personal aversions to the practice. Also, yoga alone may not provide sufficient positive affect attributes to promote the needed change. The combined yoga and animal-assisted intervention of “Goat Yoga” has been popular for several years as a fun and uplifting activity but has not been studied for its influence on mental wellbeing. …

How They See Me: Reentry Experiences Of Women With Mental Illnesses: An Interpretative Phenomenological Approach, Mansi N. Patel
Social Work Dissertations
The reintegration of justice-involved people into the community has emerged as a key concern of the criminal justice system as prison populations have increased globally. High recidivism rates indicate that prisons have not adequately prepared many prisoners for life after prisons. Over one million women are released from US jails and prisons each year and reintegrate into society (National Institute of Justice, 2022). These women will reintegrate into society with disproportionately high rates of mental health issues and women who leave jails and prisons with mental health issues face increased risks of experiencing substance use, risky behaviors, homelessness, and recidivism …
Student Relational Maintenance With Instructors: Scale Development And Validation, Emily N. Napier
Student Relational Maintenance With Instructors: Scale Development And Validation, Emily N. Napier
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examined the instructor-student relationship through an interpersonal communication perspective. The current thesis took a two-step process to first derive participant-generated responses concerning undergraduate student maintenance behaviors and second to construct and validate a scale concerning those behaviors. Of additional interest was to explore reasons as to why students aim to maintain these relationships. A 16-item measure titled the Student Relational Maintenance Scale was created and consists of making connections, advice seeking, etiquette, and attendance behaviors. Additionally, results revealed that both professional and personal reasons motivated students to build these relationships. Making connections, advice seeking, etiquette, and attendance behaviors …

Predicting High-Cap Tech Stock Polarity: A Combined Approach Using Support Vector Machines And Bidirectional Encoders From Transformers, Ian L. Grisham
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The abundance, accessibility, and scale of data have engendered an era where machine learning can quickly and accurately solve complex problems, identify complicated patterns, and uncover intricate trends. One research area where many have applied these techniques is the stock market. Yet, financial domains are influenced by many factors and are notoriously difficult to predict due to their volatile and multivariate behavior. However, the literature indicates that public sentiment data may exhibit significant predictive qualities and improve a model’s ability to predict intricate trends. In this study, momentum SVM classification accuracy was compared between datasets that did and did not …
Identifying Social Media Users That Are Susceptible To Phishing Attacks, Zoe Metzger
Identifying Social Media Users That Are Susceptible To Phishing Attacks, Zoe Metzger
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Phishing scams are a billion-dollar problem. According to Threatpost, in 2020, business email compromise phishing attacks cost the US economy $ 1.8 billion. Social media phishing scams are also on the rise with 74% of companies experiencing social media attacks in 2021 according to Proofpoint. Educating users about phishing scams is an effective strategy for reducing phishing attacks. Despite efforts to combat phishing, the number of attacks continues to rise, likely indicative of a reticence of users to change online behaviors. Existing research into predicting vulnerable social media users that are susceptible to phishing mostly focuses on content analysis of …
