Migration Tales From A Small Consortium, Euemduan C. Osmera, Angela Kroeger, Keelan Weber

Posters and Presentations: Leon S. McGoogan Health Sciences Library

According to Oracle's white paper, Successful Data Migration, October 2011, up to 75% of new systems fail to meet expectations. That is quite a high number, and our small consortium felt this was true after we migrated to Ex Libris Alma/Primo VE in 2020! We often see librarians on Alma listservs asking for best practices, tips and tricks to manage data, or what metadata challenges to be aware of before migration. After working in our new system for two and a half years, we have insights based on our failures and successes. In this presentation, we will share warnings and …

IMPORTANCE Neuroimaging-based artificial intelligence (AI) diagnostic models have proliferated in psychiatry. However, their clinical applicability and reporting quality (ie, feasibility) for clinical practice have not been systematically evaluated.

OBJECTIVE To systematically assess the risk of bias (ROB) and reporting quality of neuroimagingbased AI models for psychiatric diagnosis.

EVIDENCE REVIEW PubMed was searched for peer-reviewed, full-length articles published between January 1, 1990, and March 16, 2022. Studies aimed at developing or validating neuroimaging-based AI models for clinical diagnosis of psychiatric disorders were included. Reference lists were further searched for suitable original studies. Data extraction followed the CHARMS (Checklist for Critical Appraisal …

Child Care Investments And Policies In The Upper Valley, In The Pandemic And Beyond: “People Have To Hurry Because This Arpa Funding Isn’T Going To Last Forever”, Sarah Boege, Jessica A. Carson, Kamala Nasirova

Carsey School of Public Policy

In this brief, the authors illustrate New Hampshire and Vermont’s different responses to supporting the early childhood education and care sector during the COVID-19 pandemic and examine the limited publicly available data on pandemic relief funds through the lens of the interstate Upper Valley region. While data limitations preclude the authors from identifying which child care pandemic relief programs worked best and for whom, the authors find spatial and program type differences in relief receipt. Using data from interviews with early childhood educators in the Upper Valley, the authors identify the role that temporary relief funds have played in keeping …

Engaging Gen Z Through Humor, Wendy Gillis, Fred Pozin Mar 2023

Engaging Gen Z Through Humor, Wendy Gillis, Fred Pozin

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2023

ABSTRACT

The current generation of undergraduate students in the classroom (Gen Z) is the loneliest generation in the U.S. (Twenge, 2017), and they know it. What are they spending time on? Their phones. What are they not spending time on? Time with friends (Twenge, 2017). Gen Z has more of a life online versus offline, yet Gen Z yearns for in-person interaction, and the pandemic has only made it worse. The authors’ advice? Tell a joke. By combining theories from psychology, management, and marketing, this conceptual paper explores the relationship between humor, trust, and persuasion.

The Experiences Of Black Women Senior Student Affairs Officers: A Multiple-Case Study, Tamekka L. Cornelius Ph.D, Donald Mitchell Jr., Ph.D.

Executives, Administrators, & Staff Publications

Within this multiple-case study, we explored the experiences of Black women in senior student affairs officer (SSAO) positions at four-year historically white institutions (HWIs) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States. We used Black feminist thought and representational bureaucracy to theoretically frame the study. Participants included SSAOs representing three HWIs and two HBCUs. Four central themes—often expressed within experiences of marginalization—emerged across the cases: 1) I Have a Right to Be Here; 2) Creating Networks; 3) No Straight Line to the Top; and 4) I’m Thinking about the Black Girls Coming Behind Me. We conclude the …

Quantifying The Soundscape: How Filters Change Acoustic Indices, Emilia B. Hyland, Annie Schulz, John E. Quinn Mar 2023

Quantifying The Soundscape: How Filters Change Acoustic Indices, Emilia B. Hyland, Annie Schulz, John E. Quinn

Open Access Fund Publications

Monitoring biodiversity can be time consuming and costly. Automated recording units (ARUs) have rapidly emerged as an efficient and cost-effective tool for measuring biodiversity. Acoustic indices are one output from recordings from ARUs that can be quantified to serve as an ecological indicator for biodiversity. However, there is a lack of guidance on what acoustic filters to apply to these indices and when. To address this gap, we collected acoustic data from study locations spanning temperate and tropical forests, agricultural grasslands and croplands, and peri-urban development. We applied filters of 80, 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz to these data when …

Antecedents Of Fssb: Evaluating The Demographic Basis Of Support, Erika Ann Schemmel Mar 2023

Antecedents Of Fssb: Evaluating The Demographic Basis Of Support, Erika Ann Schemmel

Dissertations and Theses

The benefits of family-supportive supervisor behaviors (FSSB) have been well-documented in recent literature. However, less research has examined the antecedents of FSSB. The present study draws from two theoretical models of FSSB to investigate the demographic antecedents of FSSB in a military sample. Supervisor and employee gender, partnered status, parental status, and elder caregiving status were examined to determine by whom, and for whom, FSSB is provided, as measured by employee perceptions. It is hypothesized that supervisors and employees who are women, partnered, parents, and/or caregivers to elders would have higher employee-ratings of FSSB. Furthermore, the present study applied a …

Grounding Qualitative Medical Research In Coherence, Not Standards, Carol Isaac, Linda Behar-Horenstein Mar 2023

Grounding Qualitative Medical Research In Coherence, Not Standards, Carol Isaac, Linda Behar-Horenstein

The Qualitative Report

Qualitative research publications have become more prominent in medical journals. However, in medical discourse, those researchers who are adhere to postpositivist (quantitative) paradigm often criticize diverse qualitative inquiry for a perceived lack of rigor. We suggest that qualitative research, just like quantitative research should be guided by methodological coherence rather than prescriptive standards. Coherence is defined as an alignment between epistemology, theoretical perspective, methodology, methods, and research questions. In the medical field, a lack of training in methodological diversity, a long-held post-positivist privileging, and insufficient methodological dialogue, promulgates reliance on quantitative analyses. Neglecting to articulate sufficient methodological detail has caused …

A Body Without A Soul: Why Print Still Matters In Legal Research, Mari Cheney, Heather Simmons Mar 2023

A Body Without A Soul: Why Print Still Matters In Legal Research, Mari Cheney, Heather Simmons

Articles, Chapters and Online Publications

This article argues that print still has a place in legal research pedagogy and that some materials should still be collected in print in addition to online should the budget allow for it due to five primary reasons: (1) stability of legal information; (2) context; (3) information literacy; (4) algorithm bias; and (5) the discovery of information. Since many law library budgets are shrinking, there are creative ways for online legal publishers to make online material more print-like should libraries be unable to purchase both print and online material.
